Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Welcome newbies!!

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and haven't felt anything yet. Can't wait to feel the little sproglet though!!

TMI I'm afraid... I've been having a right dodgy tummy this week... After about half an hour of eating I'm needing to go to the loo quite quickly. Is this hormones? I've been feeling totally fine in every other respect. Still eating normally, drinking loads and no nausea so I don't think it's a bug. I've been eating brown multiseed bagels this week - would the extra fibre be enough to have that reaction?

Was at a wedding reception last night - the biggest workout I've had in ages was simply trying to get into my dress! I couldn't have been happier to get it and my tights off at 1am!

MarasmeAbsolu · 29/07/2012 19:43

marking place etc :) thanks for setting up the new thread!

still have not told anyone... the more I wait, the less I want to tell (most people we'd tell are abroad, hence cannot witness what is becoming a little more obvious by the day).
Will have to do something soon though, as some rels are coming to see us in the next few weeks. As they have a big mouth....

BuntyCollocks · 29/07/2012 19:53

Blush whoops! Didn't mean to copy the first part of that post, just the list - my apologies!

Ooh nice shiny new thread! Loving the Friends theme with the titles Grin

octanegirl · 29/07/2012 20:04

My belly button is getting shallower!

ChutesTooNarrow · 29/07/2012 20:13

Marking my place, hope everyone has had a good weekend.

allchik · 29/07/2012 20:37

Lol creepy at the hairy bellybutton! We were in Tenby, weather was fab! X

pmgkt · 29/07/2012 20:40

how many threads do you think we will get through before january?

Birdies · 29/07/2012 20:40

Lol bunty, that confused me!

allchik lol a belly rug!! Also weren't you the one crying like a steam train hahaha! I've also been getting a popping feeling but I'm not sure if it's baby as its right next to my bellybutton and I've had it for weeks. I hope it's baby though and it sounds similar to what you're feeling.

Welcome to all the new people!

octane yay, a shallower bellybutton is a lovely sign!

I think one or two people weren't sure re finding out the gender. Not sure if this helps but with my first I didn't and I'm really glad I experienced that not knowing. But with my second I wanted to experience knowing in advance this time and it's also easier to plan with having two and less time to buy stuff once baby is here. I don't feel more or less excited for knowing - its massively exciting both times, so you can't lose either way!

CreepyCrawly · 29/07/2012 21:12

Oh lovely allchik, only a few miles from me. I'm about 6 miles from Haverfordwest, by Newgale beach if you ventured this far. You were very lucky with the weather :)

I'm also getting a shallower belly button. We're going to start taking a photo of my growing belly every week starting tomorrow. They'll be for our eyes only, not Facebook!!

SquealyB · 29/07/2012 21:26

Hi to all the newbies!

Just marking my place on the new thread. Not a lot to report here feeling grand but also not feeling very "pregnant" if you know what I mean!! Save for my complete aversion to chicken which has remained constant throughout.

Hope you are feeling a bit better happy and that everyone is doing well.

eleda · 29/07/2012 22:28

Another hello and welcome to the newbies from me too, and thanks bunty for the new thread.
squealy I know what you mean, I'm not feeling that pregnant anymore and my exhaustion seems to have worn off this weekend so feeling pretty normal. I'm 16 +4 but not seeing the mw til 18 weeks as she's on holiday!! How inconsiderate!! Can't wait to start feeling spud moving.....

Hormonalhell · 30/07/2012 11:37

Hi everyone, my internet been down for a whole week and just couldnt wait to get back on to see wht i'd missed!! Grin

my nausea has disappeared YAY!! Still get tired but not so i cant get off sofa (no more excuses to not to clean the house). Am still in bed for 9.00 tho and if not yawning my head off!!

Also got my scan date for 29th August if someone would update the list please Smile

ive felt bubba move almost every day for a while now so reassuring cos u not counting down days til u get to see MW - mine on holiday til week before my scan!

Hope everybody ok and enjoying the 'blooming' stage Smile

theboutiquemummy · 30/07/2012 11:51

Happyhow i had that yesterday OMG it was bad nearly called the midwife I was in agony but DH thinks it because I have been so bunged up i eventually went the other way Blush

thought all the symptoms had gone so was beginning to worry but sickness has come back with a vengeance

Have decided first major purchase will be car seat im going for the maxi pebble cosy not thinking ill buy this new so keeping my eyes open oh and hospital bag have seen a lovely one in TK MAXX for £20 so that I would have it while it was cheap

anyone else made any other purchases ?

SquealyB · 30/07/2012 13:33

No additional purchases save for our Stokke pushchair but the baby spread sheet is now up and running. My DH is very afraid Grin

Not really sure what first movements should feel like - and would welcome any descriptions from those in the know (don't want to mistake gas for baby Wink).

BuntyCollocks · 30/07/2012 13:35

Oh squealy, good choice with the stokke! I looooove mine. Ds also loves it - makes life easier when they don't hate their buggy!

OP posts:
DiscoDomina · 30/07/2012 13:39

I've been starting too feel like myself again at just 13+5 but to be fair i haven't really suffered like some of you guys but it is nice to feel like i have a bit more energy and that i don't need to have a bottle of gaviscon permanently attached to me! Smile

Boutique DH & i have made some purchases through a Mothercare Babyplan at the weekend - we have ordered a cotbed and the pram. But they won't be delivered until a couple of weeks before my due date. Some might say it's a bit early to buy those items i guess, but it is a great way for us to spread out the cost as we now have six months to pay for it! In fact DH is constantly going on that we need to start buying any special offers we see on wipes and nappies etc as we will need them!

SquealyB · 30/07/2012 14:11

So glad to hear that Bunty Smile. There is so much info. out there it was hard to choose!

Disco - that makes a lot of sense. DH and I are trying to do one "big" thing at time to ease the blow a bit plus have starting syphoning off a chunk of pay each month into a savings account. I miss buying shoes though sigh.

Complicated24 · 30/07/2012 15:03

I am feeling so relieved as have just returned from appt with midwife and heard baby's lovely heartbeat. I am feeling fine now and had managed to convince myself yesterday that I was no longer pregnant as didn't feel pregnant - sickness pretty much gone, not feeling as tired, no obvious bump - so asked midwife to check heartbeat immediately. She was lovely and said it is totally normal not to feel pregnant at this stage (17 weeks) and baby was still there and I would get a bump and not to worry. I treated myself to a jacket potato with chilli con carne in local cafe which I have become totally addicted to, so I suppose that is a sign of pregnancy as hardly ever had it before. Hope everyone else is not nearly as paranoid as me!!!

tinyeyes123 · 30/07/2012 15:50

My 16 week appt was a total waste of time. All she did was told me the bloods they took 6 weeks ago were fine and said they don't check the heartbeat in my hospital. Could have done it by post and saved me the trek!

Complicated24 · 30/07/2012 16:09

Tinyeyes123 how disappointing and what a waste of your time. I find it strange how healthcare differs so much depending on where you live. That was my first MW appt as I wasn't offered one before 16 wks (and then couldn't fit me in til 17 wks) whereas I think others on this thread have had a few MW appts.

Hormonalhell · 30/07/2012 16:23

Yesim 16 weeks and had 2 appointments and due next in 2 weeks

SquealyB · 30/07/2012 16:55

tiny eyes that does sound like a complete waste of time!

complicated I agree, I am amazed by the variations in care we are all receiving based on where we live. I really hope my MW listens for the heartbeat at my appointment next week as I could do with the reassurance. If they don't I might get a private scan as not sure I can wait until 20 weeks.

Complicated24 · 30/07/2012 17:06

SquealyB really hope you do get to hear a heartbeat too as it is amazing and so reassuring. But my midwife did prepare me first by saying that you couldn't always hear a heartbeat at 17 weeks, so not to worry if we couldn't hear one. I had tears streaming down my face when we heard one of course! We have had a couple of private scans (8 and 12 week ones) as have had two miscarriages in past so have been feeling quite nervous. They were worth every penny. Hope you hear a lovely loud thumping heartbeat next week.

Birdies · 30/07/2012 18:43

squealy I have to agree with complicated, the private scans are really worth it. Obviously if you have to sacrifice something else important to pay for it then don't do it, but otherwise I've never looked back and regretted paying for them.

complicated I keep getting paranoid too. What if baby has stopped growing or how would I know if something is wrong. I'm fine for a few days after a scan and then start worrying again! I'm too busy to constantly worry thankfully, but it's still there when I stop. I think its very normal though when things haven't gone right for us before. I do have an obvious bump but I almost need my own scanning machine at home not to worry lol!

Everyone else - I'm just over 18 weeks now and have started getting tightening feelings round my bump and faint cramps, like more of a dull ache. I can't remember what it was like last time round at this time but I wondered if anyone else is getting this?
