Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Ps anyone else 18 weeks and not feeling movements yet?

BuntyCollocks · 30/07/2012 19:38

birdies I have been cramping throughout - did with ds as well. It mostly comes on if I've been doing too much, or if I'm dehydrated. Ha a lovely moment yesterday where I was cramping and nearly fainted as it was too hot at the shops! Luckily a sit down and a drink sorted me out pronto.

I'm not feeling any movement and I'm 18+3, which is freaking me out as I felt ds just before 16 weeks, but we found out at our gender scan tht the placenta is anterior this time, so is acting like a cushion and absorbing her little kicks and jabs. Luckily I have my doppler so can hear her heartbeat whenever I want, and she usually gives it a good boot as well!

20 week scan a week on Thursday - how did that happen?! This has been a fast 20 weeks for it going so slowly, if that makes any sense at all!

Birdies · 30/07/2012 20:26

Hey bunty, thanks, that's really reassuring. I had an anterior placenta last time so kind of thought I'd be unlikely to again this time but midwife said its perfectly possible (annoyingly I forgot to ask at our gender scan).

I know what you mean, we are nearly half way through! But it's also gone so slowly at the time. Wish I had 20 week scan this week though :( Ours is exactly at 20 weeks, so 2 weeks time.

godzookey · 30/07/2012 21:33

hi Everyone,
I had my first MW appt today - am 16 weeks exactly today. The trainee midwife seemed more knowledgeable than the snr one. We got to listen to the heartbeat which was amazing - although i was wishing i had had a bikini wax when i pulled the top of my pants down Smile. She took my blood pressure and that was that really.

Next appt with her isn't now until October.

We also made a couple of purchases at the weekend -an Avent steriliser system with bottles and a manual breast pump (!), a few cuddly toys from mamas and papas which were in the sale but still really expensive £44 for 4 but couldn't resist. I also put a deposit down on an m&p cot bed - only thing is that, i'm now thinking that it may be better to get a matching chest of drawers but get a complete set from somewhere cheaper like Argos! But, i can always get my money back from m&p if i do change my mind

Has anyone checked out BabysRus yet??

octanegirl · 30/07/2012 22:40

I know what you mean about not feeling pregnant - all my symptoms have gone and I feel completely normal. And am now worried as well! I have the gender scan on Friday so I will get my reassurance then I guess. Doesn't stop me worrying in the meantime. I went mountain biking round the bridleways on Saturday and the tracks were very rutted and the bike was shuddering all over the place, so now I've convinced myself I shook the baby and hurt it!

theboutiquemummy · 31/07/2012 05:29

Disco I might do that sounds like a brilliant idea

Angry I'm appalled to at the different levels of care offered its awful will let you know how it goes today with the midwife

mummypud · 31/07/2012 08:17

Hello all , i am yet again worrying , 13 weeks 4 days and had spottinh last night , cramping today but no blood , dont know what to do really . Didnt sleep kept going to toilet to check :(

pmgkt · 31/07/2012 08:35

Pud, ring your midwife to reassure you, some people do just get spotting throughout so try not to worry.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 31/07/2012 08:42

mummypud hope all is OK. Try not to worry too much.

We hit Mothercare at the weekend (thanks for the recommendation Squealy!) ? I was very restrained and only bought one pack of sleepsuits. They have a sale on at the moment but nothing neutral in 0-3 months. If you know the gender it?s probably worth a visit though. I?m planning on going back with DH so we can have a proper look ?round (MIL is staying with us at the moment so didn?t really feel like I could browse too long).

Still not feeling any movement, but then I?m only 15+2. I sort of have a bump, though ? my normal belly (which is rather large anyway) is much firmer and I can?t hold it in anymore, so I do look quite pregnant.

My baby spreadsheet is also up and running (has been since? oh, about 2009!). We bought quite a bit on Ebay so the main thing we need now is a cot. I want to use reusable nappies so need to do some research into that and see if I can get any samples ? I think there was a voucher for a trial pack in the latest Bounty pack, or was I imagining that?

newbie6 · 31/07/2012 08:43

Hi all,

How exciting that we are all hopefully through the nausea stages and starting to bloom :) We found out our gender yesterday as the CVS procedure I had tells you so we are both delighted and we are having what we thought :)

I have a scan tomorrow so that will be me 15 weeks - cannot wait to see my wee bean tomorrow. Am definitely feeling much better and not as sick so all good. Not really having cravings although DH has pointed out I am tending to want balsamic vinegar with everything and I never want ice cream so perhaps I do - ha ha!

We haven't bought anything - may start looking and can anyone recommend where to look to get a buying plan as wouldn't even know where to start?

thanks

xx

newbie6 · 31/07/2012 08:45

mummypud - just saw your post, I agree in that you should ring your MW for peace of mind. I know lots of my friends had spotting throughout so whilst it is obviously very worrying for you, I think it does happen to some women so hopefully your MW can reassure you. Hope you are okay and you get to speak to your MW soon. x

Pascha · 31/07/2012 09:07

Hi everyone, just a quick pitstop. Hope your scan is ok to day Newbie and mummypud hope you manage to chat to the midwife soon.

Pascha · 31/07/2012 09:19

Oh yes, I meant to say I havent seen my MW since booking in at 9 weeks (because there was a mix up over blood results taking a month to come in). I talked to her on the phone about the results and we decided I should make appt to see her after my 20 week scan instead. Scan is 14th august and MW appt is 17th august.

DiscoDomina · 31/07/2012 09:25

Mummypud I'm sure it's nothing but just get yourself checked out for peace of mind.

Newbie i would suggest going to Mothercare and enquiring about their Babyplan- only downside you can only pick specific items off a list not just anything in store - but the list is updated weekly and if there is a special offer or sale price thats the price you will pay for it in six months time even if it has gone back up to full price - also if an item you have on plan goes to a lower price you can get them to readd that item at the new lower price! it is interest free, no credit check just £10 admin fee.

Not sure about other plans, didn't really investigate. We have used Mothercare as my DH ex wife has staff discount which she is very kindly letting us use! Smile

DiscoDomina · 31/07/2012 09:36

I'm after some advice please ladies about breastfeeding! This is something i would like to do but i'm not sure wether it will work out etc, with that in mind should i buy an electric breast pump in advance or wait and see ? Confused They aren't cheap so don't want to spend money on something i might not end up using - but i also want DH to feed our baby early on he also wants to be able to do this and doesn't like the idea that he wouldn't be able to as he has bottle fed his previous 2 DC Confused Any advice ladies Grin

mummypud · 31/07/2012 09:43

Midwife is coming to see if she can hear a heartbeat so fingers crossed x

newbie6 · 31/07/2012 09:57

everything crossed for you mummypud x

Birdies · 31/07/2012 10:04

mummypud i hope everything is ok. If you are rhesus negative you would also need the anti D jab for any bleeding but you would know already if you are.

disco def wait and see. You will want to establish breastfeeding well before you introduce a bottle so you will have a few days before you would need a pump. You can order first class off amazon and have it with you the next day. Alternatively, order a week or two before due date and leave a note to remind you to return it if breastfeeding doesn't work out. When the time comes, would highly recommend the Medela Swing pump. Expensive but worth it.

Do get a steriliser and a couple of bottles and some cartons of back up formula milk in advance though (e.g. Cow & Gate newborn milk 200ml ready to feed cartons, about 65p each I think). You will use the steriliser whether breastfeeding works out or not (as you'll obviously express into containers and feed from the bottles). Would massively recommend the Philips Avent 24 hr steam steriliser. I've been using mine everyday for over a year now and it's been the best buy I made. Also Dr Browns bottles good for reducing colic. The formula milk is a back-up in case breastfeeding doesn't work and to avoid sending DH out in the middle of the night to try and find some :) The sell-by dates are usually good so you'd be likely to use it when baby is much older anyway.

CreepyCrawly · 31/07/2012 10:45

Just got back from my midwife appointment, and hearing the baby's heartbeat. Such a surreal feeling. It also have a massive kick so it's safe to say I'm not feeling any movement yet!

Hope everyone is well!

CreepyCrawly · 31/07/2012 10:47

Gave*

mummypud · 31/07/2012 12:21

Cant find heartbeat :( now have to wait till fri for a scan

Birdies · 31/07/2012 12:32

Oh mummypud that's so stressful for you. Can they not get you in earlier for a scan? It's still very early though for finding a heartbeat so you mustn't assume the worst, i don't think they usually try until 16 weeks.

mummypud · 31/07/2012 12:34

No
My widwifw has tried but hospital are being arseholes. She said she can usualy find the fetal heart at this stage so now just :( :(

Birdies · 31/07/2012 12:50

Well you know we'll all be thinking of you til then and hoping. I'm surprised they can't get you in sooner but I guess it makes no difference to the outcome, just would be less worrying for you to know either way now. I'd be more worried if you were 16 weeks and couldn't hear heartbeat though - there's still a decent chance all is well

SquealyB · 31/07/2012 13:17

Definitely considering private scan.....really hope to hear the heartbeat next week at MW appointment. If it is not offered am I going to be bolshy and ask/demand Grin

mummyp hope you are feeling a bit better....let us know how you get on with the midwife.

creepy - that is great that you heard the heartbeat!

birdies - thanks for the tips on the breast feeding equipment etc. Invaluable info.

cupcakes - I am impressed with your restraint.....I fear I will not be able to exercise the same degree of self control.
