Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Hi

MarasmeAbsolu - I have builders in too at the moment, we are building 2 rooms out the back, one is a nursery and the other is an extension to our kitchen to give us a snug room - CANNOT wait for the builders to go, fed up with all the hammering noises :) Hope you get your work all done soon too!

theboutiquemummy - I'm self employed although have someone working part time for me but like you, am just working away till I feel I can't anymore as no one else is going to pay me :( I have been feeling okay but must admit I am pretty stressed out and tend to have huge emotionally unstable rants at the slightest thing (normally to my DH!) when he comes home - I am most certainly the crazy pregnant lady! Hoping as work gets quieter towards Xmas so will I - ha ha!

Brugsmania - I wasn't going to find out either and then when we chose to have the CVS following our nuchal results I decided I didn't want any more surprises and a part of me had disassociated myself with the pregnancy whilst we were waiting for the results so we chose to find out as I felt for myself, it would help build the bond again which it has. Neither me nor my husband regret finding out and it has actually made things easier in terms of picking our nursery decor etc but appreciate everyone is different. I still feel it was a surprise for us albeit we found out 6 months earlier than normal but to me, the surprise will be still be what our baby looks like, what their personality is like etc and we have kept the name a secret so still a surprise for family and friends :)

Anyway - hope everyone is well!

x

SquealyB · 18/09/2012 15:11

Lora good to hear you have had the chat....I feel much better after having mine.

TheBoutique we are going to a NCT nearly new sale on Saturday so I will let you know how it goes, may rely on DH's rugby skills to ensure we bag the bargains Wink.

Greats news on the scan Mrs Bugsy.

Brug - we chose not to find out for a couple of reasons. 1) this is our first DC so we have no gender preference at all 2) We don't want to decorate/buying stuff for a "girl" baby or a "boy" baby but for a person, we are very keen to avoid gender stereotyping 3) I might need a suprise to get me through labour 6) I overplan everything in my life so it is nice just to have a little secret that I can't find out! It find it really exciting.

Equally can totally understand why people would want to find out too. I can imgine it might make bonding easier and it woudl certainly be nice to only have to think on one name Grin.

mrsbugsywugsy · 18/09/2012 15:24

brugs i am glad we found out the sex, being able to think of the baby as 'her' rather than 'it' has made her seem more like a real person.

this is despite the fact that can't stand gender stereotyping of babies and there's no way i'm going out to buy lots of pink frilly dresses now!

i imagine that giving birth will be momentous enough even without the surprise of finding out the sex, so we might as well have the fun of finding out now.

katolla · 18/09/2012 15:28

Glad all your scans are going well, and my sympathy to everyone who's doing this through building work. We're in the early stages of trying to move house which isnt too relaxing either.

Would it be possible to put people's locations in the list of due dates, or is it too difficult? I'd be interested to see who else is in or near London.

DiscoDomina · 18/09/2012 15:33

I totally agree with you newbie about finding out the sex, it was still a surprise and has definitely started to build a bond between me and our son! We were unsure if we should find out and i was worried i might regret finding out, but i am so glad we did. Smile

Brugmansia · 18/09/2012 16:00

squealyB my reasons for not finding out are pretty much the same as your first 3. I have said to DP that if we do find out it is our secret and we won't tell anyone else. We'll do everything gender neutral anyway, but if it remains secret we should be able to avoid others bombarding us with pink or blue.

I think we may just end up deciding by tossing a coin tomorrow morning.

SquealyB · 18/09/2012 16:10

brug I always find that I know when I toss the coin what I really want depending on the outcome as I am either pleased or disapointed with the result so this is probably a really good way to do it!

Also as mrsbugsy pointed out even if you do find out, no need to break out the pink sparkley tutus......

As for my reasons did you all like the fact that I managed to go from 3 to 6 Wink....ah yes, I edited my list but not the numbers....I am clearly losing my mind!

Brugmansia · 18/09/2012 16:57

If we do find out and it is a boy then I may go and see if I can find a newborn size pink sparkly tutu :-)

DP already wears loads more pink and floral stuff than me anyway.

octanegirl · 18/09/2012 17:33

I also found out because I wanted it to feel more real - "he" rather than it. Plus I can now really whittle down my list of names!

shakemyhead · 18/09/2012 18:56

We found out to feel more connected. We lost a little girl to DS last year, I had detached as a form of self preservation.
ALSO DB wanted to call him Lionel Confused - so that's an argument we don't need to have now.

No gender stereotyping going on in this house either.

godzookey · 18/09/2012 19:42

hi All,

Very frustrating evening trying to get hold of doulas who live in my area - most that actually picked up the phone are already booked up for January and I thought I was being organised by starting to get in touch now!

I'm meeting with one on Saturday pm BUT her specialism is more post natal than actually attending the birth but so far she's the only option. I feel quite downhearted about it as I thought i was getting ahead of the game...

One that I spoke to has said that she's already been booked by someone giving birth in April so i'm clearly not as organised as I thought. DH also thinks it's a total waste of money and that he should be sufficient - anyway enough of my rant - will keep you all posted re Saturday!

Tugstonia · 18/09/2012 20:03

Evening all

We decided not to find out sex just because it's our first and will be nice to have a surprise. DP was adamant about it, I'm VERY curious and it would be lovely to be able to say he or she rather than it, but it's also quite fun speculating. I have a strong inkling it's a girl and have a girl's name I adore and no boys' names as yet. But of course my inkling could be totally wrong!

Katolla I'm in SE London (Crystal Palace), where are you? I'm happy to put my location on the list if others are.

Question for you all: I'm 22+4 and am definitely feeling movement and little kicks, but it's not consistent. Some days I feel the little bun loads and other days (like today) hardly at all. Is it normal to have random wiggles at this stage or should it be more consistent?

Brugmansia · 18/09/2012 22:09

I'm SE London too - Kennington/Elephant and Castle

preggofabulous · 18/09/2012 22:11

Congrats on the latest scans ladies x

I didn't have much choice in regards knowing the sex. Due to his position, even I could clearly see dangly bits lol.

From what I've read Tugs, movement isn't consistent until around 28 weeks. Like you, I'm getting active days and then quiet days.

PixelCarrier · 19/09/2012 05:30

I think if we were sure they were 100% right, we'd be happy to find out the sex, but we know too many people who have been told one thing and got another! I think sometimes they can be sure - like when you see clearly the dangly bits! - and that's great. But we'll just be happy with the surprise we get in January...

On another note, I am so fed up of not sleeping. Awake at 4.30 this morning. Luckily I'm not at work today, so may even manage a little afternoon nap. Maybe my body's preparing me for the sleepless nights to come?

Tugstonia · 19/09/2012 06:24

Ah thanks preggo, that's good to know about movement :)

pixel I think it is mother nature's way of preparing us for sleep deprivation when the baby comes. I've been awake on and off since 3am, it's bloody annoying isn't it!

shakemyhead · 19/09/2012 07:39

Location wise I'm in Wakefield west Yorkshire. I noticed someone said they were going to the nct sale next month. If that's the one at kettlethorpe could have a meet up?

Brugmansia · 19/09/2012 10:19

Scan done and all ok. We have the sex written down and are going to go and have a coffee and decide whether to open it.

SquealyB · 19/09/2012 10:56

Good news on the scan Brug.

That is a shame about the doula godz, it'll be good to meet them on Saturday and see if they are the right person for you.

I am the same on the movement, some days loads, some days barely anything. Although I did have a dairy milk and after ten minutes the little one was going mad. I knew the baby liked chocolate Grin.

I am in Richmond (SW London). Also happy to have this added to the list.

newbie6 · 19/09/2012 11:42

Hello!

I'm in Scotland, Ayrshire to be exact :)

Fab news on all the scans.

x

pmgkt · 19/09/2012 12:13

Mw this morning, all fine bit of a waste of time. She is referring me to a vbac nurse to discuss a worst case birth plan due to previous long labour ending in c section. I'll see what she says.

MarasmeAbsolu · 19/09/2012 12:17

Am in Scotland - central belt

allchik · 19/09/2012 16:15

knuckingfackered · 19/09/2012 16:20

I thought you wanted a section?......

preggofabulous · 19/09/2012 16:58

allchik I can relate - i have about 17/18 weeks to go if to schedule, and already im impatient. It seems so long away, and feels like forever at the moment, and then i look back and realise the last 22 weeks have flown by!

I just cant wait to meet him!
