Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Ooh good move prickly, I'm on the chilli nuts and a little glass of stout! Keeping my iron levels up Grin

Birdies · 01/08/2012 20:57

I've had trifle and giant chocolate buttons

Birdies · 01/08/2012 20:57

Grin I mean Grin

Birdies · 01/08/2012 20:58

Why has my Grin got black teeth and yours has white teeth eleda?! Must be the choccy buttons!!

Birdies · 01/08/2012 20:59

Oh it's ok, mine has white teeth now! I know I know, I'm going a bit loopy Confused

Pascha · 01/08/2012 21:02

Birdies was there sherry in that trifle? Wink

I've had birthday cake today, it was incredibly gooey and chocolatey and I feel a bit sick now. I'm blaming that on the pregnancy not the 2 huge slices I had, oh no

MamaMary · 01/08/2012 22:16

Pascha I had two big slices of chocolate cake today too.

DH just brought me some melon and grapes which I'd been craving as well. :)

Bunny222 · 01/08/2012 22:18

Great to be reading some good news on here today.

So want be getting that bubbly feeling... Am 15+1 so hope it won't be long...

eleda · 01/08/2012 22:49

ROFL at birdies and chocolate button teeth!! Someone locally is starting a cake club next Monday -everyone brings a cake, you pay a few quid to come along and that money goes to charity and then we all stuff our faces with the cakes that everyone brings and swap recipes! If everyone brings a cake that means we all have the equivalent of a whole cake to eat each!
Fear not ladies - I will eat enough to cover you all too! I know, I know, I'll take one for the team - all in the name of those awaiting the wiggles! Grin

Brugmansia · 02/08/2012 08:18

I met up with my mum last night. On the way home we had a nice chat about childbirth and her experiences. Apparently I was induced, which I didn't know before. That also tried to make her have an epidural which she didn't want, and suddenly they were surprised by add at the time (mid 1970s) they weren't used to women having an opinion on their medical treatment.

Brugmansia · 02/08/2012 08:20

As, not add in the last sentence.

IsSpringSprangedYet · 02/08/2012 08:39

Hello eveyone!!

Sorry I'm late! I saw the first thread ages ago, and had planned what I was going to write but got completely distracted by the 3DS I already have. So, can I join in too? :)

Just a little background - I found out I was pregnant early May, and thought I was probably about 8 weeks. Had my booking in appt with GP, then midwife then my dating scan, which said I was actually only 9 weeks then (this was about three or four weeks after finding out), so we went back in three weeks, where I was 12+5. EDD 05 Jan 2013. Anomaly scan is booked for the 22 Aug.

So I'm now 17+4. I had my 16 week check at the GP last week and heard baby's heartbeat. I was quite relieved, as I'd been cramping a couple of days before and although I know rationally that it is just things changing shape, I couldn't help but think... well, help! After my scan on the 22nd, my next appt is with the midwives on the 17 Sept. I doubt we'd find out what we're having, although we're fairly sure it'll be a boy. We have three already, DH is one of 4 boys, his uncle has five boys, and two of those cousins have four boys between them. There are also lots of boys in his extended family. I'm one of 4 girls, so maybe?!? But doubtful. TBH, we'd be happy with whatever!

BuntyCollocks · 02/08/2012 13:04

Welcome, isspring! Don't be so sure about team blue; we're having the first girl on my husband's side of the family for quite some time! I'm also fairly sure my DBIL and DSIL, who have just announced their pregnancy, are also having a girl - well and truly broke that trend! I know what you mean about the cramping, though. I am plagued by it this pregnancy. I mentioned further up the thread that it happens more often if I have done too much, or not drank enough, so make sure you're well hydrated and resting :)

Also, congrats, newbie on team blue! Boys are fantastic, so loving. My DS and I were listening to baby, and when I gave him the doppler and the case to play with after, he lifted up his t-shirt and tried to listen to the 'baby'! My heart melted.

Very Envy at eleda and your cake - I am loving a bit of cake at the mo.

I may be feeling some movement - getting little pokes occassionally, not flutters, but I suppose with an anterior placenta it would make more sense to feel proper pokes as oppose to the usual first flutters?

19 weeks tomorrow, and only a week today until the 20 week scan. Can't wait to make sure she's ok (having awful nightmares at the moment that they find something is horribly wrong), and make sure she is definitely a she (also having nightmares about that! Although I think that's because of the vast quantity of girly gear that has been purchased, and the fact I've just given away probably about £500+ of boy clothes in perfect condition ...)

Anyone else irrationally worrying about anything? It's so therapeutic to be able to talk on here. DH just tells me to stop being so stupid. Shock

SquealyB · 02/08/2012 14:38

Hi isspring and welcome.

Bunty and allchick I am exactly the same. I worry all the time about stuff like that. I am desperate for my 16 week appointment next week to heat the heart beat and then I will be desperate for my scan at 20 wks for more reassurance. I am so grateful to have this "place" to vent my crazy.....

LOL at the cake chat. I have literally just DEVOURED a snickers bar in two second flat. I cannot remember the last time I ate a snickers but I really wanted one. MamaMary I wish I was craving grapes and melons!!

We have just booked a weekend break to Milan next weekend (hotel and flights all on airmiles whoop whoop) as I need some vitamin D. Very excited about getting away for three days. Anyone been before or have any recommendations?

Complicated24 · 02/08/2012 15:06

Wow, can't believe how much has happened since last logging on. I am so thrilled for mummypuds and mrsbugsby. The cakes and chocolate buttons comments made me laugh. We've got a constant stream of house guests for Olympics at moment so am getting lots of practice should I ever wish to open a B&B! Sister and family and their dog are arriving soon, so am having a quick sit down and catch up with everyone's news before chaos reins. Went to rowing yesterday so was brilliant to see first Gold medal. There were a few young babies there and I must confess I spent as much time looking at babies as I did the rowing!!!

happyhow · 02/08/2012 16:36

Well I've stepped in to the minefield of nurseries today... I've got appointments to go and visit a couple next week. You need to book your place pretty early up here - don't need the space until next August! I'd rather have a childminder I think but I need to know that I've got something sorted as a back up in case I can't get a childminder. What are other people doing?

Oh, and I haven't had any cake today but I have had just about an entire sharing bag of Maltesers! Not the normal sized bag, a gigantic sharing bag!!!! Totally yummy though, especially as I'd had them in the freezer before hand...

I craved melon and grapes while I was still at school (teacher not pupil Wink) which took me to 12 weeks. The last five and half weeks haven't been so healthy...

BuntyCollocks · 02/08/2012 16:55

happy DD will be joining DS at nursery when she turns 1, or thereabouts. Will do a graduated start for her, it worked well with him, so fingers crossed the same will apply. Not back until Feb 2014, though, so it seems waaaaaaaaaaay off!

DiscoDomina · 02/08/2012 17:01

Well seeing as you have broached the subject of childcare Happyhow can someone enlighten me scare the shit out of me roughly how much it costs Confused I know there would be regional variations etc but seeing as my internet searches have been fairly futile as to how much full time childcare costs unless you call a specific nursery for costs any info would be wicked Smile

happyhow · 02/08/2012 17:15

Hey Disco

For me, a childminder will be anywhere between £30-35 a day and I'll be going back to work, worst case scenario, 4 days which works out at £500-550 a month. Nurseries are more expensive and you usually have to pay for 48/49 weeks of the year - not so good if you're a teacher like me. The one I would like if I need it is £43.50 a day which works out at nearly £700 for the month. We were told by a colleague of my husband to allow £50 a day for nursery. Sad

Hope that helps.... Xx

Birdies · 02/08/2012 17:24

bunty I'm the same. My worrying increases the further I get from the last scan or midwife appointment. I'm paranoid as I can't feel the baby move and I thought I could before (though last time it had been ages since I felt anything and at midwife apmt all was fine, so I should just remember that).

Also worried about the 20 week scan. I think that's very normal though - you get past the risky stage (12 weeks) and then realise you've still got the 20 week one to go. But none of us are that far off that stage now though so hopefully we can all relax soon!

SquealyB · 02/08/2012 17:42

Ahhh childcare - I have been scaring myself silly with this and planning like a demon.

Our plan is......

I am planning on being off from 18 January to 2 September (all things going to plan).

I am requesting to work from home 1 day a week (Wednesday or Friday) I am not decided and requesting to work core hours in the office which will be 8-4 and then I will probably need to log on remotely at home for a couple of hours after bedtime/bathtime. [I work for a US law firm and luckily they are pretty awesome on the family friendly policities].

Hire an au pair plus (from Ireland if possible......given how rubbish the economy is back home and how many young people are desperate for work I want to do my bit). Pay £100 a week plus room and board.

Have little one in Nursery for the morning session 8.00 - 13.00 for the four days when I am at work. Nursery (in SW London) is £47 per half day session. Nursery takes childcare vouchers and DH and my work both offer Childcare voucher schemes.

Total cost per month (not taking into account voucher/tax saving): approx. £1200 per month (OUCH!)

SquealyB · 02/08/2012 17:44

ps. £100 per week will include 1 nights babysitting per week (Friday or Saturday). Otherwise weekends off but duties iwll include domestic chores and a bit of a dog walking etc.

happyhow · 02/08/2012 18:06

Squely, you have made me feel very glad that I live in Aberdeen... We are the most expensive city to live in in Scotland but bloody hell!! I'll be £27.50 for a half day at the nursery I like. I'm still in shock.

theboutiquemummy · 02/08/2012 18:14

Hi lovelies and welcome to the newbies I'm scaring myself shitless about the anomaly scan and silly things

Eating is all over the place and I haven't even thought about nursery care I'm just sitting here feeling sick at the thought of it all Blush
