There are still NCT groups (although nothing that close to me to make it worth choosing over my local Netmums advertised baby groups iyswim) so you don't have to pay, but this was for the classes. It was advertised as being a bonding thing too, so you could meet other mums with the same due dates & one of the classes was a post-baby coffee morning type thing. If it had been cheaper, it might have been worth it... I found mums with babies within walking distance to me without needing NCT though, so its possible to do without.

Can't beat Netmums for that. I was the Chairmum for our area when it started up :) have got LOTS of contacts through that and years on we are all still firm friends :)

Can't find any prices for the ones near me, but there aren't the lengthy ones that I looked at 2.5yrs ago when having DD, just shorter 15hr sessions, which may be cheaper. But when you get 6hrs of free antenatal sessions at the hospital, it didn't seem worth paying extra for not much more.

Oooh yes, NCT I did it and really liked it. though the 'relaxation' sesh at the end was a bit ahem. And I would have liked to have seen how to change a nappy. I met my bezzie mum friends there so was great for that.

Yarp am weeing all night too and I don't drink anything past 8pm and yet I still need the loo at least twice, most definitely baby. but other than that is not noticeable which I am finding odd. Is anyone else not weeing overtime in the day?

got my booking in appt! fri the 13th no less! Am going to have to beg some transport and take my 2 year old who will be bored, want to 'help' me fill in forms and freak when I get bloods taken. I am dreading it! So different to when I went with him, i was just so excited about it all!

Oooh I have realised that they are doing my appts according to my dates it seems, as my booking is when am 8 weeks which seems standard. So my scan would probably be the week after this wedding am going to when I will be 11 weeks... do you think I should try and stay schtum (and hide my belly and the fact am not drinking) or just admit am preggo?! Am so scared of being loud and proud about it before the 12 week scan :( But I should know what is what from the 7 week scan next week... hmmm WWYD?!

I never did NCT classes, but with DC1 was quite jealous of mums who had as they already seemed to have a ready-made group of friends at-the-same-stage even before their DCs arrived. Having said that, they did seem quite expensive and I am a bit cynical about how much of the stuff they teach you you actually use in labour (may be because, having had a back-to-back labour and a 52 minute labour, I just think each birth is completely different! Birth plan this time is simple - lie on back, scream, get tea and toast after!)

I love your birthplan too daisy! I had a birthplan and I would definitely recommend having one, but with mine the midwives were so solicitous that each time they did something they would refer to it and say 'well, I can do this but la la la' etc and i was just like YES! DO WHAT YOU WANT, SOD THE BIRTH PLAN! hehe :) they were lovely my midwives.

I had to go to hosp after my homebirth with DS to get some stitching (grr) then when got home I had, ahem, a maccy dees! And some veuve cliquot

What does annoy me is that the council classes for pregnant ladies are all like 10.30 starts which is fab if you don't work full time!! There's very little evening stuff which the nct does have. Will look at net mums x

Our classes were in the evening - think something like 7-9 which was horrendous - it was the last place I wanted to be at 32+ wks after a long day at work. The last session was mainly spewing anti-formula propaganda & a tour, which was pointless all around.

NCT is completely against FF peeps, just so you know; it is part of their ethos.

I wish they had shown me how to bath a baby and put a nappy on and clean a bubba! all these basics seem to be taken for granted but I was lost! I was shown how to position a baby to BF though which was excellent and got me off to a great start once bubs was here :)

I could take to wearing cute knee-length swing-y skirts too. Yellow ones. With red ballet flats.

I did NCT classes and really enjoyed them, despite thinking I would hate them. Five girls in our group, all had our babies within a week of each other, and we were all the same school year - coincidence! We then hooked up with the next NCT class (babies were 1 month younger) and now there are 8 of us and we still see each other (DCs now 2.5) and go out for girls' nights out etc. a bit competitive from time to time but on the whole, really glad I did it.

Ours were a mix of day and weekends. Work are supposed to let you have time off I think? Or I could be totally wrong!

They were pro BF but two of us ended up FF cause we couldn't manage BF and the rest of the group (bar one smug lady) were really non-judgemental about it.

Think they do reduced rates if you are on a low income.

oooh yes, even tho NCt were anti-FF as a group we had a mix of BF and FF and no one judged anyone :) friends try not to really though don't they?Sleeping competitions on the other hand...

One NCT bumps and babes group we went to was really smug (even tho we were an nct group too), all hippy dippy super mums and cliquey. we went to the cafe instead. so just goes to show is all diff types with different likes/dislikes!

Hi folks, just clocking in to wish everyone all the best for the next wee while. Feeling quite pregnant today, tummy already sticking out (due to totally buggered muscles from the last 3 pregnancies), craving bacon (DH says 'how is this different from usual?') and needing to pee a lot.

I felt unwell earlier in the week and had a slightly elevated temp which worried me as this was how my previous mcs started, but so far has come to nothing. So keeping fingers crossed. Fingers crossed for all of you, too.
