There we go, a nice new thread.

The BIG Question??? Will the first baby arrive during this thread???????

ghost - some people just like to put baby in something special to come home - something for the keepsake box really. An outfit, to me, comprises vest, babygro, hat, cardigan, maybe mittens, then snowsuit thing, but it's only the babygro that I've set aside specifically as a special outfit for coming home in, but then, I am a sentimental old fool :)

I have no idea which way round baby is atm, he keeps moving, but MW appt on Monday - the first time DH has been able to come with me for a MW appt so v exciting for me, esp as he'll get to see the unit for the first time too - so we'll find out what's going on then.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 29/11/2011 11:42

PS - I like that thread title too, but only if it says 'Father Christmas' instead of Santa, cos I get all snobby and anti-American about saying Santa :)

God I'm a grumpy old woman today! I've been wandering onto AIBU to pick fights...

GiraffeAHolic · 29/11/2011 11:54

Ha we say Father Christmas too, I dislike Santa just seems like everyone else uses it Hmm

ghosteditor · 29/11/2011 11:58

ah! I see! Well in that case it would probably have to be the cardigan, mittens, and booties that my nana knitted that would constitute an 'outfit'. Am a bit unsure on the babygro front as I have no idea what size will be best - I have one that looks like tiny newborn, and one newborn, but my favourite stuff so far is all in the 0-3 months range which looks massive compared to the others.

DH and I were both small (probably because early) so I'm kind of assuming we'll be closer to 6 or 7 lbs than 8+ lbs, but who knows, especially the way I've been eating!

GiraffeAHolic · 29/11/2011 12:18

Dd's coming home outfit was a fleecy humphrey's corner all in one and matching hat which is now in her keepsake box (I think I got 0-3 for that just in case)

I'm not bothering this time, it'll be a white sleepsuit and our newborn pramsuit.

As an aside, it's gone very quiet from mummyzoe does anyone know if she and Ame are ok??

ParsleyLion1 · 29/11/2011 12:20

Thanks ghost that's quite reassuring. The MW did say that she wouldn't normally worry about -2 but it is just over that it's actually about -2.5 so she wants to be sure.

addicted ouch re the crutches - hopefully you'll get a physio appt quickly. That might ease things up a bit anyway.

ParsleyLion1 · 29/11/2011 12:27

giraffe she updated her FB status overnight due to lack of sleep so I think they are OK - hopefully she's catching up with sleep now.

Interestingly the MW said that tall ladies (I'm 5 11) notoriously carry smaller babies - thought that was very odd, completely counter-intuitive.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 29/11/2011 12:39

my tall MiL had my 10lb DH first time round... he was v long, too, though. Thigh bones weigh lots, right?

ParsleyLion1 · 29/11/2011 12:54

Ouch - that doesn't sound small. Perhaps the MW was just trying to make me feel better.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 29/11/2011 12:58

Oops - did I ruin it? Sorry...

ParsleyLion1 · 29/11/2011 13:05

Tbh I wasn't entirely convinced. Smile

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 29/11/2011 13:12

if it helps, my MiL is also a fat biffa...

fishandlilacs · 29/11/2011 14:24

parsley I have heard the exact opposite from MW and consultants-it's so not true about taller ladies carrying small babies. I am 5ft 11 my dd was 9lb 10. She also fitted into newborn stuff no problem and for quite a while.(tesco's & mothercare) stuff is especially large She's very solid though, shes much heavier than another child I know of the same size and age but not at all chunky-shes as lean as can be but just damned heavy.

SEnns MW today. JJ is looking like hes going to be the same sort of size-he's on the 90th centile at moment but the chart has been adjusted becuase of my history with dd. He currently weighs roughly 5lb 4oz.

He's also still breech-little monkey. Another scan in friday but I really hope he turns-not because i'm worried about a c section but more the date, I am relying heavily on mum for care of dd when he's born so the further I can be away from my sisters due date the better. She's over an hour away and mum doesn't drive, i'm dreading babies comig at the same time. MIL is my contingency if that happens but I hated having her round after the birth first time.

Wormshuffler · 29/11/2011 14:34

Aw big warm and fuzzy feeling today!
I am on another thread [shameless thread hussy emocion] which was started a year ago ish when about 8 of us had M/c while on a due in june bus, it has taken us through the mc emotions, then onto the ttc emotions and subsequently bfp (except one lady bless dear wellie) Well anyway one of the ladies had her baby today Grin It's ace. Im feeling all emotional about how far we have all come in the last year, and even more excited about my own.

shonnomanom · 29/11/2011 14:35

parsley congrats on baby moving around. Hope baby stays head down for you. Did the mw mention if baby had engaged? That could explain the smaller bump..
My MW team keep a close eye if your bump measures 2cm over or under, if you get to 4cm then its an automatic referral for a scan

addicted sorry to hear your joining the crutches club. Be warned it takes a while to get used to the moving soooo slow

Baby's 'going home outfit' will be what ever white vest+babygrow fits and the hat, mittens and cardi in appropriate colour knitted by my mum

Im aching all over today. Not good. Seeing the physio on Friday so she will work her magic as usual.
My Mothercare dellvery has just arrived and is incomplete! Delivery man said the missing piece wasnt at the depot but if its found it will get sent out in the next van out this way. Very reassuring. Not worried too much as it was just a wee daft thing to make the order qualify for free delivery

x post fish
I feel exactly the same about wanting baby to born as far away as possible from my sisters babies.
Luckily I have mum and she has her mil as she lives about 40mins away and im only 2miles from mum.
Sisters twins are bang on target so her consultant reckons that babies could be here when she's about 36weeks(christmas) where as Im seeing the consultant the week before christmas and have been told if things dont change to expect birth the week between christmas and new year. So babies could be born the same time and I selfishly dont want the twins stealing my babys limelight!!!

worm that's lovely Smile

i have never had my bump measured and no further growth scans even though my baby was 95th centile last scan Confused

is this just my shitty hospital againand should I be asking questions??

shonnomanom · 29/11/2011 14:56

red iv been measured at every mw appoinment. How else can the check babies progress if they dont measure. Obviously its not an exact science but the measuring gives them an indication. Chase them.

OP posts:
MakesCakesWhenStressed · 29/11/2011 14:58

I've been measured at some, not at others and noone has suggested a further scan...

However I would say to pursue it if concerned...

Wormshuffler · 29/11/2011 14:59

I get measured every time.
There is a chart in my notes that the midwife has to fill in each time, have a look in there see if the chart is there, if it is then they are clearly not doing something they are required to do!

fishandlilacs · 29/11/2011 15:02

I don't get measured every time because i'm having regular growth scans. therss no point if youre having scans. They have only just measured today as part of the examination for breech.

GiraffeAHolic · 29/11/2011 15:15

I get measured every time but I'm sure it varies depending on who's doing the measuring.
