I have 3 weeks to go... When we found out it was a boy I knew I'd have the crazy name battles. Our DD has a V beautiful but V unusual Latin name. Trying to push his crazy names to middle names.
His boy suggestions are:
Aurelian
Hector
Titus
Lysander
Tiberius
Gaius
Uriel

My suggestions with his ideas have been either
Duncan (family name) and Titus as a middle name or Reuben (DH thinks too popular) and Uriel as a middle name. Thoughts?

I really like Aurelian, it's not a name I've heard before. But you both need to be happy with the name he's given.

I wouldn't settle on something you're going to regret.

Again I really do think people can like or even love names but did any of you choose names like this for your own children?
As I said before, lots of my friends agree and love his choices but not a single one picked a name outside the top 100 for their own children.

My son's name is not in the top 100 and neither will my daughter's be. They are both linked to my heritage though.

PurpleButterflyWings · 14/11/2022 22:08

Oh fucking hell !!! 😂 He can NOT be serious! Why would you want to land a poor child with ANY of those names?! Aurelia, Lysander, Uriel! Oh my fucking days! 😂

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/11/2022 22:11

Actually love Titus and lysander but agree his list is pretty brave!

Fivebeanchilli · 14/11/2022 22:11

Aurelian - I actually like this.
Hector - this is gorgeous!
Titus - I think it's a bit tricky because it sounds like tight-ass. Ok as a middle name
Lysander - really don't like this
Tiberius - no this one is too much!
Gaius - no this is awful
Uriel - awful too

Hector is fab though. Hector Duncan is lovely.

nothing2wear · 14/11/2022 22:12

I prefer your names to you DH.
Others I like

Linus
Magnus
Ellis
Elliot
Struan
Campbell
Fraser
Gabriel
Raphael / Ralph / Rafe

OneMoreWish · 14/11/2022 22:13

I know a Magnus which I think is incredible x

canonlydoblue · 14/11/2022 22:14

My husband wanted Athelstan and Ethelred so I understand the fight you have on your hands.

TitilatedOcelot · 14/11/2022 22:16

From the list, Lysander, Duncan or possibly Tiberius. Not keen on the others.

Titus makes me think of "tight arse" rather than tits.

How about Julius/Julian (instead of Gaius)?

Prefer Gabriel and Raphael to Uriel if going down the archangel route. Or Michael.

There was an Odysseus in DS's martial arts class, so there are boys with classical names out there!

Good luck on reaching a compromise and finding something you both like.

StiggyZardust · 14/11/2022 20:31

I love Titus

Me too.

LazJaz · 14/11/2022 22:33

Pendragon
Peregrine
Ignatius

Ikeameatballs · 14/11/2022 22:36

Hector or Duncan from your original list.

Other possibilities…

Zeus, Hercules, Atlas?
Lorcan, Murdoch, Ward?
Ace, Azriel, Sullivan?
Roman, Thor, Hadrian?
Ptolemy, Constantine?

itsalwayscycling · 14/11/2022 22:36

I just asked my 15y old who goes to a fairly 'robust' comprehensive school what he thought of these names. Once he had picked himself off the floor and stopped laughing he did suggest Max as an alternative....

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 14/11/2022 22:37

Titus just makes me think of my favourite character in Kimmy Schmidt. Maybe get him to watch that? Might put him off 🤣

I know a wonderful young Gaius!

Stop!

Squiff70 · 14/11/2022 22:38

A couple of those aren't as outlandish as some I've read/heard of!

My son is 12 weeks old. When my partner and I were discussing baby names he wanted either Ragnar or Zero. Suffice to say they both got vetoed immediately (massive understatement). One night, lying in bed not even talking about names, he turned to me and said he liked a specific name. It's relatively common but not overly so, I don't think. I liked the name too but wondered how I could "cutesify" it a tiny bit, just while our son is a baby. The name can sound a bit harsh otherwise. I then said out loud a cuter way of saying the name. My partner rolled his eyes and tutted.

Do I even need to tell you that's what we named our son? Of course I cutesify it at times. Amusingly though, my partner calls him that little nickname ALL the time.

I love it 😀

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 22:39

I love Ragnar 😊

VeryQuaintIrene · 14/11/2022 22:40

Surely your husband can't know anything about the emperor Tiberius (which is really the only possible association) if he wants that as a name? I like Titus, though.

Heartbreaktuna · 14/11/2022 22:46

Is he likes the angel reference would he like Dante?

I've suggested Gabriel as he is due start of December so fitting Xmas theme.
