I have 3 weeks to go... When we found out it was a boy I knew I'd have the crazy name battles. Our DD has a V beautiful but V unusual Latin name. Trying to push his crazy names to middle names.
His boy suggestions are:
Aurelian
Hector
Titus
Lysander
Tiberius
Gaius
Uriel

My suggestions with his ideas have been either
Duncan (family name) and Titus as a middle name or Reuben (DH thinks too popular) and Uriel as a middle name. Thoughts?

Evander
Leander
Damian

Hector is nice and not too out-there. Plus I loved Eric Bana's depiction of Hector in the movie version of Troy.

Uriel sounds way too similar to "urinal" to consider.

At uni I knew of 4 brothers named Spartacus, Lysander, Achilles and Octavius. They were cool enough to pull it off. I have 4 boys myself now and know full well that we are not cool enough 😆

A580Hojas · 14/11/2022 20:45

Thanks. I know who Uriel is.

Uriel the name of an Archangel in the Apocrypha. I like it but I think it would give rise to 'urinal' jokes.

This is why he loves it. From the book of Enoch passages and the fact he is God's fire. So that is why he loves that name. I wouldn't mind it as a middle name for that reason but no way first name.
He would get Uriel the Urinal at school!

Gregory /Gregor
Castiel, cassius
Alfred

I love Lysander sorry 😀

puddingandsun · 14/11/2022 20:46

What names do you like?

ReadtheReviews · 14/11/2022 20:47

If he likes classic ones how about Atticus or Atlas? both not unheard of nowadays.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/11/2022 20:47

Horace is the worst name on this entire page. And that's sayin' somethin'

cheapskatemum · 14/11/2022 20:47

Titus is a good name. I also like Lysander and, as others have suggested, Leander.

rwalker · 14/11/2022 20:48

Barnaby
angus
Rex
bernard
alfred

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 14/11/2022 20:49

Humphrey means "peaceful warrior"; just saying.

If it has to be a warrior, how about Leonidas or Oisín? (Or just Alexander with a fancy middle).

Did they love their names? My DH said I don't understand as a women that men would love a crazy name.... His name is top 100 now though. I have a totally unique first name that is never used and I love it but it's actually half my original name which was diabolical so I really worry about the confidence issues of an insane name.
My daughter's name is really easy to shorten so I was happy for her to have something unique.

I’m showing my age in that Hector just reminds me of Hector’s House.

InTheFourthAtMalloryTowers · 14/11/2022 20:50

Hamish could be a compromise between Duncan and Hector.
I like Lysander but Hector sounds stronger.

Tobias and Rupert are also not too common.

marvellousmaple · 14/11/2022 20:51

CYrus?

Humphrey was the name of my first horse. He was the most wonderful gentlemen and took me through all the pony club teams.
I suggested this but DH was like hell no 😭

I really like Aurelian, Hector, Lysander and Gaius.

Uriel is an unpleasant sound, like urine, and Titus risks a lot of tit jokes. Tiberius is a bit much and not a great person to be names after.

My Grandpa was named Hamish and it's my Dad's middle name. I love Hamish. He said no though.
Love Rupert but DH is an Army Officer so unless I gave birth in the mess we just couldn't use it 🤣🤣🤣

I dort think anyone has mentioned Pericles? Perry for short

Or Percy for Perseus.

Narwhaleahoy · 14/11/2022 20:55

I had a cat named Horace. He was adorable!
Actually, thinking on it, I’ve had cats named quite a few of the suggestions on here so I’m possibly not the best person to make any suggestions. I’m really not sure about Uriel mind….
anyway OP if you really want to terrify your husband you could always suggest Hades…?

Fufumcgoo · 14/11/2022 20:56

Valentine
Rowan
Christoph
Nichol
Felix
Adrian

What names do you like?

I prefer for boys more classic names or something with a family tie.
Family names I like are
Duncan
Arthur
Hamish
Casper

And names I like
Reuben
George
That sort of thing lol.

I really like his style, less so yours.
Would love to know what your daughter's name is.

Some really great suggestions from others, if you can't agree on what you've already discussed.
FWIW, my son has a name along the lines of your husband's style, it does have mainstream nickname options but my son is very happy with his slightly more out there name and uses the full version.

Stokey · 14/11/2022 20:57

Xerxes - good heroic classical name

Tiberius got up to some pretty seedy stuff, I'd avoid.

GinUnicorn · 14/11/2022 20:58

Another I love Lysander vote I’m afraid.

How about
Ezra
Atlas
River
Leonardo
Cassius
