Husbands insane boys names! Help!

I have 3 weeks to go... When we found out it was a boy I knew I'd have the crazy name battles. Our DD has a V beautiful but V unusual Latin name. Trying to push his crazy names to middle names.
His boy suggestions are:
Aurelian
Hector
Titus
Lysander
Tiberius
Gaius
Uriel

My suggestions with his ideas have been either
Duncan (family name) and Titus as a middle name or Reuben (DH thinks too popular) and Uriel as a middle name. Thoughts?

Tristan?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/11/2022 20:35

I'd have to bite my tongue from saying 'You're terrible, Uriel' if I ever met one.

He doesn’t get to choose - don’t be bullied after having a baby. He needs to be supportive and compromise.

his list is a bit wild to say the least

and you have 40 days I think more than enough time to organise a taxi for yourself - his name is not more important than yours

AnApparitionQuipped · 14/11/2022 20:37

I like Aurelius and Lysander from that list - they'd be my pick.

SudocremOnEverything · 14/11/2022 20:37

Hector is not that weird.

Duncan is great though. He should definitely be swayed.

offer Duncan Hector as a combo.

Kanaloa · 14/11/2022 20:37

Tiberius is kind of cool in an out there way. The rest are just a bit too much. I think it’s easy to say they’re ‘cool’ but I wonder if he would be happy to change his own name to Uriel. I think too many people don’t consider that they’re more likely to be naming a nursery teacher or Tesco employee or accountant than the chosen one of a YA novel.

I would tell him straight out that none of them work for you at all and go back to the drawing board. Make long long lists of names and cross reference.

clary · 14/11/2022 20:37

I like Hector, Lysander and Tiberius tho he wasn't very nice.

Agree with pps' suggestions of Horatio, Horace, Tybalt? Or Paris - very mythological and after all he won Helen of Greece. Started the Trojan war mind, but you can't have everything.

BasiliskStare · 14/11/2022 20:38

@Hereandgoneagain Ah why? good friend of mine has a Hugo and I am not sure he feels "saddled with it " . He is my god son .

Newname500 · 14/11/2022 20:38

A few more....

Victor
Cassius
Cassian
Marius

AliasGrape · 14/11/2022 20:38

I like Hector

My DH’s favourite for a boy was Horatio, I vetoed it and we had a girl anyway but I softened to it a bit now. Quite like Horace too. Though accept it’s much easier to be positive about these for a hypothetical baby than when I was actually pregnant!

what about -

Cassius
Benedict
Rufus
Lucien
Theodore
Felix
Leander

dwArty · 14/11/2022 20:38

I think Hector stands out from the crowd here as less unusual in a good way. I had Reuben in my list but glad I didn't use it as there are plenty around me now.

xyzzyx · 14/11/2022 20:38

Leander
Alexandra
Cassius

anotherscroller · 14/11/2022 20:38

How anyone can like the name Hunter is beyond me.

Snugglemonkey · 14/11/2022 20:39

I love Duncan. I also love Lysander though.

anotherscroller · 14/11/2022 20:39

Leander is a lovely idea.

ElizaSkye · 14/11/2022 20:39

Archer? If you like Hunter. Then one of the wilder suggestions as a middle

MissEnolaHolmes · 14/11/2022 20:39

Strong name that you could discuss

Hudson
Huxley
Hugh
Hugo
Sebastian
Marlo
Jude
Cameron
Mungo
Monty / Montgomery
Rufus

RandomMusings7 · 14/11/2022 20:40

Oh, i can see your point. Other than Hector his suggestions are quite awful.

How about these?

Cesar
Felix
Sebastian
Octavian
August
Marcus
Adrian
Julian
Maximilian/Max
Octavio
Quentin

A580Hojas · 14/11/2022 20:41

Uriel is completely awful. Is that a joke suggestion? Surely no one could take it seriously.

Let him have Gabriel and then shut the conversation down.

Thank you for your sweet message. He isn't bad he just has always wanted these insane warrior names for a son. As said previously I don't mind him picking an insane middle name as it won't be used much.
Only first names of mine he may consider is Reuben or Duncan but only because it's my grannies maiden name and he loves her nearly as much as me so said he may consider it lol.

Love Hunter but suggested it for my mum's dog and that is his name now haha. Hugo is one of DHs best mates son's name but I love Hugo!

If you like Hunter what about Sawyer or Fletcher?

Also in my head it goes with Austin but that might just be because I taught siblings with those names.

Uriel the name of an Archangel in the Apocrypha. I like it but I think it would give rise to 'urinal' jokes.

greekyog · 14/11/2022 20:42

Hector is a great name and so is Reuben!

Duncan is hideous sorry. IMO it's just clunky and harsh and not nice sounding.

Titus is really cool for a middle name and Aurelien (sorry if spelt wrong) is pretty cool too.

I think if your daughter has a beautiful, unusual name, your DS will have the short straw if you named him Duncan...

Duncan for middle name perhaps?

I think it’s a lovely name - it was on our list back in the day.
But friend says he has heard every joke possible on the theme of “You go” and “Who goes there?” and that it wears thin after a while.

A580Hojas · 14/11/2022 20:44

Also think Horace is good.

Fabian
Lucien
Edmund
Walter
Ayo
Trevor
Bernard

all good still slightly unusual names
