Are there any Aussies here?

Or more specifically, an Australian section here?

I've searched for 'Australia' and there are quite a few threads but mainly about moving to/from. I fear that any threads I start will be lost in the mumsnet sea.

@Eaglesqueak I'm so jealous!!

It’s really lovely. We’re very lucky, aren’t we?

I miss living on the coast so much.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 25/04/2023 03:30

Well if we are showing off beaches this is 5 mins from my house. I took the pic when I went for a swim on Saturday, it isn't usually so sea-weedy.😄

Not an Aussie, but sending a friendly wave from across the ditch in the spirit of ANZAC Day. It's a glorious afternoon here, after a sunny but chilly morning.

Codlingmoths · 25/04/2023 03:39

@Eaglesqueak where is that?? Stunning! I’m in melb and we are at my parents with the dc in the pool (bit chilly for me though 😬) I will go for a lovely jog later!

although I will prob spend most of my relaxed slow jog thinking about the incredible amount of exercise all those women on that if you’re fit how much exercise do you do thread, so jealous!!

Eaglesqueak · 25/04/2023 03:44

That’s beautiful always. Where is it?

Codlingmoths, it’s taken from Black Rock about an hour ago. I walk 10km along the beach track on weekends.
I’m with you on it being too chilly to swim!

Dustyblue · 25/04/2023 03:50

Wow lots of Victorians! I moved from Melb to the south coast 7 years ago, love it down here. A balmy 23 today with no wind for a change.

Was also on EB for years, was very sad when it shut so quickly. A few of us from the Recipe section tried starting that group up elsewhere but it didn't take off.

Nice to hear from you all!

Did anyone else used to be a member of the essentialbaby forums back in the day? In it's early days it was the Australian equivalent of MN.

Yes I was ZombieMum on EB - hence my user name. :)

They did an upgrade on eb - but there was a massive data breach in their search function that they didn't pick up on. It closed down not long after - may have been due to the data breach, but there were also rumours that the TRAs got it shut down as they didn't like women discussing female issues.

@Remaker
Did anyone join the Everybump spinoff Motherlode?? It was set up by a few people who got kicked out of EB for expressing gender critical views. I didn’t visit for a month or two and then it seemed to have vanished.

I am on everybump (under a different username) - quite a few long term eb members were banned from everybump because of their gender critical views - some were banned because of what they posted in their pms to each other - so the admin/site owner was reading them! They started up TheMotherBoard - but they got trolls on it, and I think they had to shut it down as they were afraid of being doxed.

I remember on the day EB announced it was going to close down (they were giving only a week's notice, but ended up giving us a month) - so members went to slack to try to discuss setting up a new forum. A male then stepped in, took over, and setup everybump and he has all the control. It just didn't feel right that he did it that way. Some of the mods they chose were also poor choices - one had major mental health issues, and just kept bringing the place down. Things improved once she left, but the place is nothing like eb used to be.

Hello from Melbourne
I am tackling my garage today for my move. Sold my place and moving to a different suburb as the westgate freeway is killing me on my commute. Not ready to drop to a lower acuity hospital that would be 10 min from me. Love the acuity and busyiness of my workplace

That’s really shocking and sad. When I found out who the moderators would be, I bowed out. I knew how it would go.

blueled · 25/04/2023 04:25

I remember the EB GC kerfuffle, I'm pretty sure that moderator flounced after having a huge tanty about it and making a huge mess. I'm not GC though so I'm wasn't really too invested.

The beach photos are killing me! I live hours away from any coastline :(

When I lived in WA I was about a thirty minute walk from the beach and took it for granted.

blueled · 25/04/2023 04:26

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 beautiful photo thank you

EnoughEnoughnow · 25/04/2023 04:43

I’m from the UK but have lived in Australia for nearly 30 years now. New South Wales North Coast.

Matchymatchylemonscratchy · 25/04/2023 04:46

We’ve also been at the beach today. It’s almost balmy. I love Autumn.

sausage767 · 25/04/2023 04:59

Hello from Central Victoria! Cracking day here today. This is my favourite time of year really. I’ve just been outside doing some work, now getting ready to go to the neighbours place to watch the footy.

Lest We Forget .. and Carn the Pies!!!

blueled · 25/04/2023 05:02

I'm more of a spring/summer girl but I must admit we've had some great weather in Vic the last week.

marmaladeone · 25/04/2023 05:28

Regional NSW Australia here. Gorgeous day. Fog this morning and a bit chilly ( about 12 degrees) and now a glorious sunny day and about 24 degrees.
Zombiemum is very correct about EB and then motherboard. I have no idea why EB got disbanded but I know I was banned from its follow on. Supposedly for being rude to a mod but really for being GC. Not appreciated in Australia sadly. Which is strange as we are generally ahead in most things ( the right for women to vote etc). Happy to have found Mumsnet. My son is having the best time at uni in Liverpool!

marmaladeone · 25/04/2023 05:32

And yes Autumn is the absolute best season!!

YeahNahWhal · 25/04/2023 05:34

Another Australian former-EB member checking in/place-marking. I ended up on MN during long overnight feeds with my youngest - EB was dead overnight and this place was lively AF. Love the trainwreck threads here, so stick around for entertainment value.

I'm not sure who chose the mods but it was a big worry. Lovely to see you 2 here,

ItsTheVibeInnit · 25/04/2023 05:35

Checking in from Canberra. I also lived in the UK for a couple of years pre kids but have been settled back in Aus for the past 20+ years now. I found MN through a random google search for something baby related, and have stayed for the general chat and FWR.

I really enjoy the British and international culture on MN but it would be great if we also had an aussie/nz forum for more specific stuff. I wonder if @MNHQ would give us an Antipodean board if enough of us were interested?

marmaladeone · 25/04/2023 05:37

That might be nice.
Though I love the Uk opinions too. We are really ridiculously similar.

It is indeed me - so creative lol. What was your EB username?

I was The Old Bag, then after the Great Feralisation, changed it to The Old Feral.

I name change a lot more on here. Every few months.
