Are there any Aussies here?

Or more specifically, an Australian section here?

I've searched for 'Australia' and there are quite a few threads but mainly about moving to/from. I fear that any threads I start will be lost in the mumsnet sea.

Blueled 😂. Yep, the oodie will be coming again out soon

TerrorAustralis · 24/04/2023 15:13

I’m in WA too. Back here after a few different places.

I was on Essential Baby back in the day. It was helpful when I was pregnant and early parenting days. But there was something a bit cliquey-high school-mean girls around some of the more prolific posters.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 24/04/2023 15:14

Aussie here too. Live in WA. Suffering with the 20 degree drop in temperature today though! Yesterday felt like summer, but I have the long pants and socks on now.

blueled · 24/04/2023 15:16

@TerrorAustralis yeah there was and the breastfeeding section was the thunderdome.

There are meant to be cliques here on MN but I'm so uncool as to go unnoticed👸

blueled · 24/04/2023 15:17

@CorrigansDoorKnob It's that time of year where we cook off the layer of dust on the heater to welcome in the new season.

Haha me too and tomorrow blueled is gonna be pissed with late night blueled.

Codlingmoths · 24/04/2023 15:20

I just mean medically @blueled. It’s not quite fair as 1 & 2 were nhs and 3 was private here but private wasn’t an option in the uk as my insurance didn’t cover it. I was just very much a vessel for a baby in the uk and nobody cared about me. I had hg and struggled. With dc3 - midwives were nice to me! Apart from the birth itself which was the best of the lot and I credit the obstetrician for that, the midwives were friendly and supportive and post baby they’d walk in and ask if I’d like a cup of tea, or hang around and prop baby and me up all wrapped so I could doze off holding her… they were checking on me so when I passed a baseball size clot I had someone to ask so I didn’t freak out, with dc1 & 2 I’d have been home by then or if it had been earlier someone would have said what, you called me for that?
It’s not just being nice which I understand is partly having the time - I had a rough north with dc1 and the doctor who stitched me up told me he’d prescribed oramorph, the midwife told me to try panadol instead when I asked for it. They didn’t give me the induction information, they were no support for the Hg and told me it was normal, they told me it was selfish to want to give birth in the labor ward. Dc2 they sent me home 23 hours later vomiting when I was upright. It was a spinal headache and I had to come back in a week later for a blood patch as I still couldn’t move around without the headache spiking to make me vomit. I was not having another baby there.

Aussie, finally back in Melbourne after 10 years in London. Both DC born in London, which is how I found MN. There are lots of us here, some in the UK some in Aus, some who are British and now live in Aus.

blueled · 24/04/2023 15:23

@Codlingmoths Oh no I'm so sorry you went through that awful experience and that you're home and happy now 🤗

blueled · 24/04/2023 15:29

@Fooksticks it's nice to see the Australians showing up. I also should go to bed so 'night all and enjoy the public holiday.

Oh yeah, some sections and topics were frightening

Did anyone else used to be a member of the essentialbaby forums back in the day? In it's early days it was the Australian equivalent of MN.

Oh yes I did!!
What ever happened to that ?
I went off it for a while. Went back and it had gone!
W.A - perth here :-)

I don't know why it closed. One day there was a post about the shutdown from one of the mods or admin and within a month it was gone💥

tiredpuppymum · 24/04/2023 15:46

I thought you meant this kind of Aussie 😂 Never mind!

beautiful sunny Anzac Day here 🌞

Matchymatchylemonscratchy · 25/04/2023 00:59

Aussie living in Sydney here. We lived in the UK for a while which is how I heard of mumsnet. I was on essential baby for a while too but it was a slow death in my opinion. I’m not surprised they closed it.

crabb · 25/04/2023 01:06

Aussie living just outside Canberra here. It’s a glorious Autumn day, our deciduous trees are really colouring up well this year. We too lived in the UK for a couple of years in the 90s, but found MN when back in Australia. Loved the wit and wisdom.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 25/04/2023 01:10

Hello fellow Aussies! Adelaidean here! Living in the UK for years and have finally returned and I'm so pleased.
