New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

found this tutorial on how to make stitch markers

and a blog knittgeek

looks relatively simple, baring in mind that i could probably figure out how to make the markers but my knitting isn't advanced to call for the use of them.

today i'm going to do some drawing/sketching possibly a bit of knitting with some raggedy tidbits of wool from the bottom of my stash. obviously that all comes second to a bubble bath now that ds is at preschool

might even have a go at making stitch markers

maximummy, I have been knitting for 25 years and have never needed them before now! But I'm knitting in the round for this cardigan and need to increase 1 st 8 times evenly each alternate round, and after pulling back because I got confused, I decided it was easier to mark where I needed to increase! Currently I am using coloured wool but would prefer to work with something a bit ... prettier . I've never been into jewellery making and we don't have any shops selling beads etc round here, so making my own is OOTQ!

I am knitting this cardigan in Sirdar Yo Yo Midnight blue (can't find a decent picture of it though!). If you are on ravelry someone has knitted this cardi in Yo Yo (in the black/grey colourway though) and it looks very striking, can't wait to see the results!

Aaargh - I tried to set up a blog lasy week and it all went completely tits up! It would only let me add photos that were so huge they swamped everything else - and were actually rather scary!

So Ill just look at all of yours for now!

Miaou - no problem - would a 11mm ring be OK - they seem to be available with a split ring (like a key ring) or just a 'normal' jump ring. I don't have any large ones here at the mo, but can get more or less what ever size. Can't tell you cost at the mo (but it won't be anywhere near the prices on that website!) until you let me know ring size

wizzz- if you look at the knitgeek tutorial it tells you how to make wire markers so you can adjust to anysize knitting needle or stick or whatever...

Miaou · 07/01/2008 16:47

I think 11mm would be fine whizzz, though if you can go smaller that would be good (as a guide, I knit with 2mm to 5mm needles, not sure if 11mm might slip off the ends?) - plus I'd much rather buy from an MNer than a big website!

meridian, to a non-jewellery person that site looks great!!

Whizzz · 07/01/2008 17:38

OK - will get onto it - a nice simple thing to do whilst watching TV later

"I'll be back" as Arnie once said

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/01/2008 21:39

Dingle - your cards are fab

Whizz - the recommendations you gave were fantastic! I'm doing a bit of beading now I've stocked up!

Gingermonkey · 07/01/2008 21:44

JG - thanks for the pointer...whoo!!!!!
I have been very useless this week, but I am in the middle of clearing out DD's room for decorating (how much rubbish can an 8yr old accumulate??) and have to put her new bed together tomorrow (when it arrives). Does that count as crafting?

lucykate · 07/01/2008 22:28

i am going to visit this show at the nec in february, probably on either the sunday or tuesday (dh can't do childcare on a monday) if anyone fancies going and meeting up there. its a trade show, but i registered last year using my blog name as a business name.

the company i used to work for exhibit there every year

GreebosWhiskers · 08/01/2008 20:45

I really need to take an hour to catch up on everyone's blogs - I think I might get an hour to myself on Friday so will hopefully get to do it then

In the meantime here's the link to the Ankh-Morpork Knitters Guild Flickr page so you can see some of the fab squares people have made for the Pratchgan.

meridian · 09/01/2008 09:08

for those that make softies have you seen this site stuff your doodles quite a good idea but the prices start at £50 thats a bit much.

haven't done much crafting the last few days but hopefully I will get something done today... maybe..

jeangenie · 09/01/2008 10:27

what a lovely idea Meridian - I'd never pay anyone else £50 to do it but would be great to do for some of DD1's drawings. I think the people on that website do a lovely job though.

I've been bad on the crafting front too - I did make a diary cover which I just need to decorate a bit and then I'll blog it

After the excitement of xmas I am finding I just want to rest rest rest (and hibernate)

however I am thinking of getting started on project 365 where you try to take a photo every day for a year. I want this year to be the year I start to use my camera in something other than auto mode so it might just spur me on...

meridian · 09/01/2008 11:45

jeangenie- i think that £50 as a starting price is just a bit to much, its a lovely idea, if ds drew anything other than swirly things that he says are machines and I just think look the tazmanian devil from loonly toons. (he is 4 and is obsessed with machines and how they do things, have jsut introduced him to How It's Made on discovery )
I'd be intrested to see the diary as I was looking for a sketch book (book bound one blank pages) and the only one i remotly liked was a laura ashley one in WHSmiths... never though about covering my own.. the pic idea is good, but i'm rubbish at picture taking, but thats ok as my dh is a professional photographer

i have just made this bracelet but not do anything else the last few days.

lucykate · 09/01/2008 11:57

i love the 'stuff your doodles' idea, have seen similar around the internet, there is a lady on etsy who does it but she charges even more than £50 for hers, they are nice but way out of my (and most peoples, i guess) price range.

Nbg · 09/01/2008 13:41

Halloo

Well i've just started a new blog here

I'm going to have a read through your posts now.

Nbg · 09/01/2008 13:54

Dingle · 09/01/2008 15:04
