New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

What is rainbow fluorite?

I made myself a necklace last night!!!! I have lots of beads left over from the wedding and DH bought me a findings and tool starter kit so I could make use.

I am quite impressed with my first effort!

(and have order some more beads, naturally )

Whizzz · 01/01/2008 21:57

Look out - it's addictive!

Rainbow fluorite is a gemstone that has different colours - shades of purple, green & clear so you get a mix of different coloured beads that look scrummy together

oh i have just googled....it looks LOVELY!!!!!

I'm very much into my crafts now, so I think the warning comes too late

I was never very artisticly gifted - music, painting/drawing etc.

I seem to have found my niche with crafting though

Miaou · 01/01/2008 22:49

I'm knitting a pair of socks atm - I have done one and am just starting the other one. I am very pleased with it actually - my first attempt at socks! I'm hoping to improve my heel turning on the second one.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/01/2008 23:08

Yes, but then the socks would be odd, miaou

Whizzz, can i pick your brains?

Gingermonkey · 01/01/2008 23:22

hello to new thread! I'm making an appliqued dinosaur cushion at the minute (well, not this minute because I got distracted by MN )
And this week I will tidy out my fabric cupboard, I started by washing and ironing my stash, now I just need to put it all away in tidy piles. (which I just know I won't do)

Miaou · 01/01/2008 23:26

Nah, it won't show!! It could just be a bit ... neater, really.

Gingermonkey, can I just say I lurve your stuff! Please link to dino cushion when finished!

I have promised the dds I will finish painting their room this holiday (which, er finishes this weekend ) - they have painted the bottom half turquoise, I need to paint the top half blue, then we are painting stuff like lighthouses, boats, seaweed, divers etc on it with acrylic paints. Dd1 has done some fab designs; I will sketch them on and they will help paint the. Think it might take a while though!

Seriously though.....Just wondered what your favourite type of beads were, and your absolute must-haves? Please

Gingermonkey · 02/01/2008 10:35

Miaou - thank you It is nearly finished, I'll try and do it today but it's more likely to be tonight when I am watching the telly (coz I am getting dragged 2 Laura Ashley by DD to buy more paint for her room, she has chosen parisian blue paint, and summer palace wallpaper, the fancy pants!!! ). Her room will not be anywhere near as amazing sounding as yours though . I can draw (a bit, not very well though) but put a brush in my hand and I turn into some kind of paraplegic. Pics please of it when you are done!!!!

Whizzz - my bog is actually a bit of a state, I'm on cleaning duty this morning (which is what I should be doing right now, but again I am skiving - someone kick me off this blooming computer). Oooh, the postman has just arrived with some velvet ribbon and some shell buttons. Lovely posty

meridian · 02/01/2008 10:35

whizzz- i have some flourite beads too, from my dh, well i ordered it he gave it to me for x-mas... but i need more spacers and just don't know what to do with it yet, besides oohing over it ...

Whizzz · 02/01/2008 12:16

My fave beads....all of them . Must haves include the small (size 11) silver seed beads & clear silver lined seed beads - great as spacers (reminder to me that I need some more) - they go with all colours/designs. Other than that - any nice colour combinations that catch my eye - although I do try & not buy beads now unless I can actually visualise what I am going to make otherwise the beads hang around for ages !

i have been recycling some old beady jewelry that has been in the bottom of my jewlry box.. so not actually spending more .. oh and took apart a hideous necklace from a charity shop that had a lovely amathyst pendant on it and some decent beads, it was cheap and i]m determined to make soemthing lovely out of it one I get a few more silvery type beads to balance everything out. i think thats what i will challenge myself to do this week.. a bit of bead recycling!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/01/2008 12:46

Thanks Whizzz. I have some of those silver lined beads already so a good start!

Meridian, that is a brilliant idea!

meridian · 02/01/2008 12:52

VVV- and thrifty too! and its time to do winter cleaning anyway, now if only i had the energy to tackle ds room and the rest of the house.

I have sorted out my paint box though! thrown out empty gunky stuff and a few old bits of crap that wont get used. so not all a bad day today.

Tillyboo · 02/01/2008 12:58

Just wanted to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and I won't be making anything this week after 2 weeks of having a house full and so have lots of washing and housework etc. to do.
Not forgetting taking down the decorations - I hate that bit, it's so sad.

My brother and family left this morning after being here for a week so I've had a good old blub and need to pull myself together and get on with things.

The house is being 'mended' on the 14th Jan so we have to move out as 11 rooms are being re-plastered etc. We'll be out for about a month so I'm not sure how much sewing I'm going to be able to do - depends where we are living, that's not sorted yet either, Agh !!!!!!

Miaou · 02/01/2008 13:43

ooh lucykate, how did you do them? I have been wanting to make some felt corsages for a bit, I thought they would make nice presents for people.

Right my target is to finish off a felt bag i have started for dd. Its supposed to home her new doll that i made, a little sleeping bag and some clothes.

My next thing is to make a decision on whether to book a stall for our local craft fair in April and what to sell on it.
I thought originally on just doing my jewellery but now I dont know whether to have some dolls too

lucykate · 02/01/2008 15:22
