New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Looking forward to the pics Dior!!

Califrau - would love to see it anyway!!

Nbg...off the top of my head you go into customise, template and add page element. I think I chose "list" after that!

I still need to work out how to add a link withing the text I write though....so if anyone can point me in the right direction please.

I must get a list together of all the crafty blogs on here now and update my links!!!Perhaps I should put that on my "to do "list!!

nbg - I love your blog header - it's gorgeous. Welcome to the world of blogging.
Meridian I can't believe you are lucky enough to have a professional photographer as a husband. I always was impressed by your wonderful photos - now I understand why!
My crafting this evening has been limited to playing around with my blog - I've changed the template, added a new header etc - what do you all think? It's such fun playin with these things - I could go on forever, or at least until some small child pokes me and requests their breakfast.
adding links in posts is fairly straightforward. You choose the text you want to use as the anchor for the link and highlight it, then click on the little chain icon above the post window and that will give you an option to insert the actual url. Hope that makes soem sense

lucykate · 09/01/2008 22:35

i've had a bit of an early blog spring clean too and added a banner, and one to my (still shut for now) etsy shop.

i cannot get my head round pricing atm, so am still doing 'research'

playing around with a blog layout is addictive, i think i've had about 5 different versions before the one i've got now

jeangenie · 09/01/2008 22:40

like the new banner LK - very pretty. what did you use to get the cute text? I don't have photoshop and am wondering of I should get it. I know I'd love playing with it but if there is something less expensive I coud use to do soem graphic work I'd like to try that first

look forward to seeing your etsy shop when ready - the research sounds fun!

lucykate · 09/01/2008 23:17

i used photoshop, but i'm lucky. my computer is a mac which we got cheap from the university dh lectures at so it came with a lot of software on it.

the text came from one of those web sites you can download free fonts from, i was looking for something that looked like handwriting. i think i'll keep the banner for a while but maybe change the image on it occasionally. i use photoshop loads, really useful for, if an image is very dark, you can adjust the lighting and brighten it up. although, i got some software with the new camera to view images on, and you can do all sorts through that, much better than finepix viewer.

ok I don't know if i'm doing right here but I have registered at etsy with the intention of opening a shop to sell my assorted bracelets and possibly some paintings.. i'm not sure if its a good idea as i'm very bad at self promoting and beliving in myself but its worth a shot right? I'm going over to a friends house today so that the kids can play while mums talk and going to see what my friends things of the bracelets I've made.. I have already given my friends a painting here and there so really must get soem more painting done.. sorry wittering on... do you think its a good idea?

Dingle · 10/01/2008 11:23

I have been dithering about an Esty shop!! I haven't really looked into costs though...does it work out reasonable? If so go for it Meridian!!!

lucykate · 10/01/2008 11:32

etsy - yes - what have you got to loose?

give it a try

i'm going to stick 5 softies in (as soon as i've finished making them)

Dingle · 10/01/2008 11:57

How do charges compare to say..Ebay please?

meridian · 10/01/2008 12:09

dingle- i just copied this from the website.

"Fees

Sign up - free, your own shop - free, listing an item - 20 cents, selling - 3.5% fee. That's it. All listings include up to 5 images. Listings stay up for 4 months. "

so it dosent sound like its too unreasonable to do ... less than 10p a listing and i think its more than 3.5% tax to cough up on ebay.. dont know about other sites...

not done anything crafty but I did make some oatie cookies

Dingle · 10/01/2008 14:02

OOOoo....my prize has arrived from the Artistic Stamper!!!! I am not really much of a stamper but new year and all that!!!

I have taken some pics of my new goodies and I am halfway through my first card and stamped another 5 images for my first rubber stamp image swap!!!!

The Etsy fees sound quite fair don't they...how hard is it to set up a shop...I am not very technical!!

dressedupnowheretogo · 10/01/2008 14:14

Hello everyone - thought I'd maybe join in with this thread. Just been reading some of the blogs - what talented people we have on here!

I'm currently enjoying making jewellery as my other crafts take up too much time and mess and the DCs don't let me do much. At the moment I'm working on my first chain maille bracelet. It's a byzantine silver chain, I bought a kit from the maille queen. It's almost done (is pretty straight forward) and I think I'm hooked. I'm taking a wee bag of chain jump rings around with me everywhere to do a bit more if I get a spare chance!

Tillyboo · 11/01/2008 10:36

Welcome Suzi2. This is a very active thread and you'll have a lot of fun here I'm sure. Everyone is 'very lovely & helpful'.

So you know who I am , here's my blog if you haven't come across it yet

Have fun

x

Gingermonkey · 11/01/2008 11:45

hello suzi2 - post some pics when you are done, won't you?

Right, I have a pug to finish..........speak to you later on

lucykate · 11/01/2008 11:57

the more, the merrier

we do usually each have a (small or large!) list each week of crafty things we would like to get done, then post pictures of anything you'd like to show, bit like 'show and tell'

lucykate · 11/01/2008 12:08

i still laugh every time i post on this thread, when you go down to the add message bit, all i can see is this bit from whizzz's first post

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)
