Weekly Challenge Thread (New one, can't find old one ????)

Tillyboo · 11/10/2007 17:51

I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

I have just blogged a rather abstract, weird card for me!!! I wanted to try a challenge on another forum, to use paisley papers...and rather than use the pretty pink floral option I stuck to my list and made my dad's birthday card!!! I am really not sure of the result...goodness knows what my dad will think of it!!LOL!!!

Tillyboo · 17/10/2007 16:24

A blog list is such a good idea. I try and bookmark but get in a muddle sometimes as there are soooo many fab ones to keep up to date with.

My weekly challenge is an Angel wall hanging who is extremely bare and sad looking at the moment - I'm looking for inspiration and I'm not finding it in chocolate biscuits.

Actually, while I am on here, can anyone tell me what the wire is called that I can use to attach to dowling rods (?) so that I can hang it up.

Rather than just using ribbon, I thought the wire stuff you see attached to door signs and hearts might be an option.

Also, where would I get it from ?

Whizzz · 17/10/2007 17:48

I must get myself blogging - although I seem to manage to do so little craftwise these days I'm not sure what would go on it !!
Lucykate - I'm so glad you are pleased with the bracelet
Gingermonkey - I am happy to make something for your mum in fact it might make me get my act together !!
Whizzz_123 (at) yahoo dot co dot uk

I have made another variation of Xmas bauble & will add a pic to my trail later

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 17/10/2007 18:27

TB, don't know what it is called, but I would think if you went to the local handy man shop the handy man would know, and help out a damsel in distress (my local one is fab, the old man in there knows what I want when I try and explain using idiot girl language!!!)
Whizzz - will email you now!

Meridian · 17/10/2007 18:42

everyone sounds so busy and produtive. all i have managed to do is a knitted coffee cup holder on my neglected blog. though I am trying to teach myself to knit cables. THe first attempt didn't go so well it jsut sorta wiggled along like a snake instead of crossing over

I'll blame being stuck in Idaho.. freekin hermits for parents supposed to be lovely family holiday meh.

Dingle · 17/10/2007 19:11

Do you need any help with your cables Meridian?

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 17/10/2007 22:53

Meridian, you are on holiday, what are you doing on here????!!!!! Is it that bad in Idaho? (I can't even figure out whereabouts that is in the big ole United States of Americcy - we only ever learnt about Egyptian Dams in Geography and precipitation, because that is super useful in grwon up adult life, lol)

Someone tell me where in the U.S Idaho is and what it is famous for, apart from the River Phoenix film!!!!

Dingle · 18/10/2007 18:42

Achieved nothing today, spent some time of the Down Syndrome paperwork and then I started sorting my craft room .......and I made........

.... A BIG MESS

lucykate · 18/10/2007 22:44

well, i have finished the first christmas present, but thats it for sewing for a few days as we're all off to the lakes on saturday to visit mil, its our 10th wedding anniversary and we're going up as we got married in the church in bowness.

advantage for me is there is a little patchwork shop round the corner from mil's house to visit

things are going to go slow for a couple of weeks, we have 2 weeks at half term here, so crafting time is reduced to just the evenings.

plus, can we start a 'whizzz needs to start a blog' campaign? [grin[

GreebosWhiskers · 18/10/2007 23:22

Hokay - this week I hope to;

Finish the bags (3 down, 3 to go)

Do 3 more hairbands so I can try out the different Freedom Spirit colours

Actually make the corsages

Crochet a couple of belts

I got a job-lot of 35 assorted belt buckles off ebay yesterday for the princely sum of £7.78 (I paid almost as much for 2 out of the craft store on Monday) I also have some corsage backs coming & a mixed pack of buttons that had no photo so there could be anything in it Am looking forward to getting them 'cos I'm sad feeling inspired.

ooo bought some cotton tape yarn too & a ball of alpaca merino.

dh doesn't know yet

Meridian · 19/10/2007 01:45

dingle- I think i'm getting the hang of the one little cable i'm making, next stop is and don't faint trying to actually follow a patter and not screw it up royally, oh and possibly make soemthing other than a scarf... maybe

ginger- idaho is called the pan handle state..becuse it sorta looks like a pan i think, famous for potates and garnet stones. its located in the pacific northwest, two states up and one over from california...

my aim is to get to the lovely little yarn store in downtown couer d alene if its still there. and yes i'm on vacation but there isn't alot to do here so i must find some projects to do before I expire from boardom and clean country air.

Tillyboo · 19/10/2007 08:24

The Angel is coming along nicely now. I don't know whether I'm just slow or whether I've bitten of more than I can chew with this project as it's pretty faffy.
She does look pretty though so far.

I don't know how much I'll get done during half term - dd's is 2 weeks ! and I only have 2 weeks after that and it's my first fayre. Help !

OK, well I'll take a deep breath and say that I will (try) to:

a) make some more birds and xmas decs
b) make some more cards
c) make some little things like bookmarks & key rings

Trouble is it's such a lovely day again today that the outside beckons and I always get distracted on these beautiful cold sunny Autumn days.

thank you Meridian - the US is sooo huge!

I am halfway through my green and pink horse order, I also have a llama but am struggling to find the right fabric for it (a 12 yr old boy has requested it - he wants 'skate' fabric and I can't find any I like!)
My list this week is;
2 x green and pink horses
1 x very pink horse (for a blog swap)
1 x green and bright Emu (for a certain GW )
perfect fabric for llama quest

LK is your fayre outside or in? I just got some battery operated christmas lights from ikea for 1.60 pounds, they will add a bit of festive cheer to my stall, I think. If you have an ikea nearby go and look.

WHIZZZ GET A BLOG NOW!

Tillyboo · 19/10/2007 10:27

GM - I'm off to look at the IKEA website for the lights right now.

What a fab idea ! Having plug in lights has always put me off.

jeangenie · 19/10/2007 13:22

I have finished the teacosy (as some of you have seen) and am halfway through my huge and chunky scarf
went charity shop shopping yesterday and picked up (hopefully) enough DK in pretty colours to do a crocheted afghan throw (30 50g balls should make something decent shouldn't it?) which is going to be my "on the buses" project - I find crocheting small squares perfect for public transport in London and I do about 6-7 bus hours per week
also picked up a pair of old curtains and an old tablecloth in really nice retro patterns with which I am planning to make my first forays into toy making (bought a "how to make soft toys" book at Ally Pally)

so, let's add

start afghan on bus
do a first attempt at a soft toy

[whizz, get a blog - there's a love]

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 19/10/2007 13:56

TB, if you don't have an ikea close by I can always nip in and get you some next week. They are tiny little lights, on a 6 ft string. Probably also ideal for wrapping round the banister or on the mantlepiece at home too. (I bought 6 lots - just in case!!! ha ha ha!)
I have done absolutely bugger all today - Ihave a poorly child. DD came into my room in the middle of the night 'Mummy, I've just had a sloppy poo and I feel really sick' me - 'oh dear, night night then'

She is currently sat on the sofa feeling sorry for herself (drinking Mars Milk - because that makes her feel better, apparently!).I also went to the shop and bought a couple of Wispas, they are now in the fridge and a bit later on (when they are all cold) I am going to scoff them BOTH, hehehehe!

Whizzz · 19/10/2007 17:06

I will try & get a blog girls ! Off on my jollies though on Sunday for a week - let's hope for a sunny Cornwall

Tillyboo · 19/10/2007 18:16

Ooh lovely Whizz, whereabouts ?

GM, If they are clear/ white lights, then Yes please !

Our nearest Ikea is about an hour plus journey away so it's not the easiest to get to. I couldn't see which ones they were on the website.

Email me on laurie at mysassy dot fsnet dot co dot uk

Thankyou muchly.

Tilly - we are staying near Port Isaac and I have already checked where the beady shops are nearby
I hope to come back with lots of ideas & inspiration after loads of mooching in crafty shops !!

Tillyboo · 19/10/2007 22:10

Ooh, OOh, that's where Doc Martin (Martin Clunes) is filmed.

It's supposed to be lovely there. Have a lovely beady time !

OP posts:
Whizzz · 19/10/2007 22:28

I will look out for Martin !

lucykate · 19/10/2007 22:52

have a great time whizzz!, we go to cornwall once a year, to near boscastle, love the beach at trebarwith (sp?) strand

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 20/10/2007 08:40

Have a fab time Whizzz, Ihope the weather stays as lovely for you - it's so nice today, all bright and crisp and Autumny!

TB - I've emailed you. If anyone else wants any of these small christmas lights that are battery operated, I am going to Ikea on Weds (I'm got them for wrapping around my stall at craft fairs...but now i am going to put them in the house too!)

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 20/10/2007 08:43

TB - here are thelights Obviously here they look like a bit of string with a box at the end, but are actually tiny white lights and very pretty!

Whizzz · 20/10/2007 09:06

Thanks all Going to sort out what we need to take today. Our cat is going to a cattery (or cat hotel as its very posh !) - I might have to take Bella 2 on hols with us so we don't miss her too much !
Great idea about the fairy lights ! You can also get clip on battery powered spotlights which I have thought about getting to make my beady stuff sparkle a bit more
