Weekly Challenge Thread (New one, can't find old one ????)

Tillyboo · 11/10/2007 17:51

I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

Hmmm....well, what have I achieved so far? A big fat nothing seeing as most of the floorboards in my craftroom needed to be pulled up to get electric cables to the main fuse box!!!!

Good thing is that it is done now and now I can start really organising this room that I have been dreaming of for many moons!!!

My aims this week are rather optimistic now but I can only try!!

2 Birthday club cards for October
DD's 6th Birthday card
Dad's birthday card
Try to make at least 2 Xmas card toppers!!!

ooh yes, and some knitting in between, organising my craft room, painting our new bedroom, painting our new dining room.........................

Whizzz · 11/10/2007 22:04

I must make some more stuff. I think I will be offered a stall at a school Xmas fayre & I haven't made much sellable stuff of late as I've been messing with seed beads

I have lots of beads to play with, I just need to do something with them. Please someone - make me get my arse in gear !

Tillyboo · 11/10/2007 23:20

Just got back from Pilates so ......

Here's a virtual gearstick Whizz

Dingle - your craftroom sounds great, remember to post some pics please.

My aim for next Tuesday is to create a new softie - maybe an angel ?

GreebosWhiskers · 12/10/2007 09:38

I like the idea of a weekly challenge - it might make me get off my @rse & do something

Okay I'm going to;

Crochet 6 halloween bags (they're tiny so don't take long)
Crochet a hair band to keep my growing-out short hair in place
Knit & felt a couple of corsages

Maybe

dizzyday07 · 12/10/2007 10:01

Where do I start!!

Got to finish:
7 x Buggy Snuggle
6 x Cushion Covers
1 x Childs Apron
1 x Tarzan Loincloth
1 x Drawstring Loincloth

and finish a pair of curtains

Best I get off the PC and attach myself to the sewing machine!!

Tillyboo · 12/10/2007 11:52

Good Lord Dizzy, how are you going to get through that lot ?
I'm incredibly impressed, makes my offering of a new softie seem quiet pathetic. I may have to re-address my aims now.

That's the good thing about this thread, it gives you lots of encouragement and momentum ........ sometimes

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 12/10/2007 12:41

I am FAR to busy to talk to you lot !!! Got a craft fair on sunday, and am really nervous!!!! What if nothing sells?

GreebosWhiskers · 12/10/2007 13:05

I don't think you'll have to worry too much about nothing selling GM - more like running out of stock Make sure you take lots of flyers/business cards advertising your etsy shop too.

What kind of things are you gonna be selling?

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 12/10/2007 13:29

GW, you are just too nice!!! Thank you . Honestly, though, i am having a proper panic. I woke up in the middle of the night last night thinking it would all go horribly wrong and everyone would hate my things!!!!
I have my toys - a mix of horses, cats, dinos and 2 birds (I'll put a pic on my blog tomorrow when I have finished them), then I have some baby vest and bibs with appliqued fabric shapes on (really simple), lavender bags in heart shapes and lavender mice (I love the mice - tho my DD's friend calls them rats!), some felt and fabric corsages/brooches in various sizes from quite small and simple to quite big and a bit OTT and some hairclips made with fabric yo-yos and a button centre.
I also have chrimbo decorations, but I think I'll leave them until november - it just feels too soon, don't you think?

There's not tonnes of stuff, because I think if you have too much to look at it puts you off, so there are only a few things of each. And I think everything is priced really fairly (maybe a little too cheaply, but I thought I could see for next time and maybe put the prices up a bit then).
Hairclips are 1.50, lavender bags/mice 3, bibs 3, vests 4, animals 10 and brooches between 2 and 5 (my pound sign is working!!!!)
I've never done one before, so I am making my friend come and help (I am such a wimp!)

Tillyboo · 12/10/2007 13:29

Hi GM - you are going to do so well I'm sure. Don't forget to let us know how you do, tips & suggestions etc.
Your horse and Dino's will be running and galloping out of the door.

Just out of interest how much stock are you taking ?

My first one is not until the 17th Nov, seems an age away but I've got so much to do yet, plus my dd's pre-school has 2 weeks for half term so I'll lose 4 valuable full making days.

Hey, ho we'll have lost of fun tho. I'll just have to set her up at the table with a pot of glue and glitter.

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 12/10/2007 13:32

x posts TB!!! I have 10 animals to take, so there isn't too many.

Whizzz · 14/10/2007 09:45

I'm also going to try making a beady Christmas decoration....watch this space !

lucykate · 14/10/2007 13:08

hey, i have lost 2 things, has anyone seen,

  1. my craft mojo
  2. my glasses

seem to have misplaced both atm. going to try my hardest to do some sewing tonight and get back into the swing of it.

good luck today at the craft fair gm, x

Whizzz · 14/10/2007 14:35

Well here is my first attempt
Christmas bauble
not very christmassy colours I know, but it's really just 'lets see how tricky it is'!
I am quite pleased really for a first go, the net is a bit looser than I wanted, as I admit the bottom end of the net went a bit astray but I think overall it looks OK. Well it will do when it's hanging on my tree

Tillyboo · 14/10/2007 16:04

I think it's lovely Whizz, looks very complicated to do !

The colours are christmassy, especially if hanging with red ones too.

Whizzz · 14/10/2007 20:22

Thanks Tillyboo
Heres my second attempt Bauble 2 I changed the pattern slightly - although it's hard to get a decent photo. I am so chuffed with this !

Tillyboo · 14/10/2007 20:42

I like that one - wouldn't look out of place on a really posh crimbo tree.

OP posts:
GingermonkeySucksBlood · 15/10/2007 08:37

you are very clever whizzz, they both look great. Do you have to knot or make secure each bead?

GingermonkeySucksBlood · 15/10/2007 08:44

oooh, the craft fair was yesterday too and it was (apparently) not very busy. I had a good day though, well worth going and I sold quite a few bits. 3 of my animals went (2 horses and 1 dino), I had made some brooches/corsages and they were really popular, as were lavender sachets. Although I had made some lavender mice - little fabric mice with felt ears and a leather tail filled with lavender, I have them in my knicker drawer and they are so cute, and not a single one sold. They were £3 each, which was the same price as the much easier to make lavender sachets. Next time I might put a little sign up, or package them in pairs or 3s in little boxes. If not you'll all get one for christmas, ha ha ha!!! I had also made some hair clips and some baby vests and bibs, and they were very popular too.

jeangenie · 15/10/2007 13:59

can I join in here in the hope of actually starting some projects. I have been really really slack of late. Do you just post what you hope to achieve?

I don't do this stuff for anyone but myself (ie don't sell)

so, this week I plan to:
start a tea cosy yarn for which I bought at K&S show this weekend
then move onto scarf for myself

in the meantime sort out craft stuff in spare room and do some background planning for my next patchwork quilt

OMG - sounds a lot

Dingle · 15/10/2007 14:10

Just come on in and join the crafting! As long as it inspires a few of us and the more the merrier. I will update the thread as soon as I get a few minutes spare!

I am just working on last weeks list now!! Got a bit of catching up to do I am afraid.

howlingatthefullmoonmother · 15/10/2007 14:24

dizzyday07 · 15/10/2007 14:47

Update - I've finished 1 snuggle and 3 cushion covers

Whizzz · 15/10/2007 14:53

GingermonkeySucksBlood - you don't have to knot each bead, they are threaded individually and then sort of woven together - ie pick up 10 beads on your needle and then thread through another bead in the pattern to make a loop. YOu keep threading beads through the centre bead of a 'loop' in order to make a net ! (it's easier to do than it sounds )

I am going to volunteer for a stall as DSs Xmas fayre so I want to make some more of these in slightly different styles - can I do a quick poll & ask how much you would expect to pay for one decorated bauble ?
ie if you saw them on a stall, not knowing cost of beads / time
