Weekly Challenge Thread (New one, can't find old one ????)

692 replies

Tillyboo · 11/10/2007 17:51

I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

OP posts:
GreebosWhiskers · 15/12/2007 11:25

In fact I'm so excited I said it twice. In the one post

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 15/12/2007 11:27

GW - have mailed you re card stuff

dizzyday07 · 15/12/2007 11:42

I've reviewed my last list (and what additions have been added since) and here's what's still to do

  • 6 x Bunting
  • 3 x duvet sets
  • 2 x Buggy blankets
  • A nurses outfit
  • A paramedic outfit
  • A Bratz bag

I made one of those drawstring playmats from the blog - and it's here

pantoinghousewife · 15/12/2007 12:05

Gw, I'm fine, how are you? Have been about but, due to you all crafting me under the table, haven't posted much. (The shame, the shame!) And my ds will be soo with you going to see the Boosh, they are his favourite thing.
Have you got a link for the Terry Pratchett afghan, would love to have a go!

pantoinghousewife · 15/12/2007 12:06

Will look for it on ravelry!! Sorry, having a senior moment!

Gingermonkey · 15/12/2007 20:44

at you getting tickets - I think I'm going to have to get them off ebay, because I was too late. I am sooooooooooooooooo gutted.

Tho, our local theatre doesn't appear to be selling them yet, so I'm going to try again on monday (you cow bag, you)
On a cheery note - my rabbit turned up today, so that makes me , and thank you for the card too. DD and DS were fighting over the rabbit in the car today!

I've done bugger all this week - think I'm having a pre-christmas panic, ha ha ha!!!

Gingermonkey · 15/12/2007 20:50

I'm going backwards through the old posts.....meridian, love that necklace, and yours too whizzz - very beautiful. GW - count me in for an ornament swap, I've done one with Freshly Blended's blog, and have sent out 8 ornaments (well, 16 coz I sent 2 to everyone) all over the world. It's great waiting for them all to arrive.
Dizzy - I love the playmat you've made, my DS would be over the moon to reciece that. I see you have another hugely busy week - you are a glutton for punishment, woman!!!
I feel so useless, I had better get on with something now..............

GreebosWhiskers · 15/12/2007 21:01

GingerMonkey - smug

Will wait 'til about October next year & start a thread about an ornament swap I think - my tree's looking very sorry for itself & I'd love to have some pretty hand-made ornaments to cheer it up.

Glad your bunny arrived okay (dd2 is not a happy bunny (excuse the pun) as she was hoping to find it peeking out of her stocking - good job I've got more yarn).

Hope you get tickets!

GreebosWhiskers · 15/12/2007 21:04

Pantoing - I'm fine thanks. A bit shell-shocked 'cos there's now 45 people wanting to make a square for the afghan - every time I log on my messages are in double figures. I've never been so popular lol. Just search for the Ankh-Morpork knitter's guild on Ravelry & you should find us

Merrydian · 15/12/2007 22:33

ginger- thank you, it was fun to make, I'm itching to go back to bead shop.. wonder if its too late to change my christmas list ive done soem knitting today just a small flower brooch, no pics yet though.

jeangenie · 16/12/2007 09:34

whizz, meridian - can you tell me whether you need any special tools to finish off the necklace/bracelet/earrings??? I have bought lots of beads and findings for my sister for xmas but want to know if I need to get her anything else? a tiny pliers for example?

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 16/12/2007 10:25

It sepends on what sort of thing shes making. Threading beads onto cord - you can use cord ends (little box like things you squish onto the ends that has a little ring which you can attach a fastening) - but to be honest, when I started I made a loop in the end of the cord for the fasten & used thread to bind the ends. Pliers are handy for opening & closing jump rings
A cheap pair of small thin nosed pliers would be handy something like these ones

LUCYKateallthemincepies · 16/12/2007 12:32

hi, anyone want to join me in a count down to christmas crafting list?, one week left and i still have a list as long as my arm of stuff to make -

2 more cushions with pockets (still not done them )
another car playmat (already done a farm, pirate and 1 car one)
2 mini animal softies
2 embroidered cushion covers

there is more, but i'm aiming to get through this lot first then add more later in the week [insert wishful thinking emoticon]

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 16/12/2007 13:04

Well I have tidied all my beady stuff up until after Christmas...a bit sad but we need the room!

Here's the last thing that I made. I chose a bracelet kit for my birthday - sterling silver & cane glass
scrummy

A great kit all you have to do is choose the glass beads & then make the bracelet by opening & closing the silver rings. It's hard to take a pic that does it justice - the beads are triangular & the colours are seen clearest when viewing from the side, from the top they look almost clear

Merrydian · 16/12/2007 15:34

whizzz- I like the bracelet, but I think that the Picasso Jasper Necklace is beautiful, and the blue goldstone bracelet too. I've told my DH that i want some beady things for christmas.

dizzyday07 · 16/12/2007 16:21

Whizz - that bracelet is GORGEOUS - I want one (though not in green)

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 16/12/2007 16:40

The bracelet is from here reasonably priced too for sterling silver

dizzyday07 · 16/12/2007 16:52

What a great price?? Do you need any special tools to put it together?

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 16/12/2007 17:17

Yes you need 2 pairs of pliers ideally with protective / plastic coated ends to protect the silver but thats all (& a tiny bit of know how)

jeangenie · 16/12/2007 21:40

thanks whizz, have bought those pliers (and pair for myself as I quite fancy having a go too!)

have updated my blog with the various crafting activities I've been up to

and have just made some Nigella choc'n'pistachio fudge for DD1's teachers. Yum!

Gingermonkey · 17/12/2007 10:07

LK - I'll join you with a list;

:: finish off 2 astronauts I have started
:: applique a cushion
:: 2 x lavender mice sets

If I get a chance list....

:: some pink bunting
:: a playmat
:: a pink horse

AND WRAP MY PRESENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jeangenie · 17/12/2007 14:51

Hi ginger - thanks for your comment on my blog, the xmas post is a bit sad round my way but hopefully will get the fabric in time. Thanks again.

my list is

  1. do rice'n'lavender heat bag for my sister
  2. stuff and sew final amy butler pattern cat for DD1
  3. make a few more xmas gewgaws (gingham birds most probably as I like to do them) if I have time

DD1 is mad for a yellow hot water bottle cover any ideas anyone?

Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 17/12/2007 15:24

Hi everyone.

Havent had the chance to post at all. Its been manic here.
Hopefully things will be easier the rest of the week as dd is having skiing lessons and staying with my MIL. So just a 15 month old and a newborn lol.

JG, I love those little christmas bags. They look lovely.

Whizz, love the bracelet too.
I'm usually a bit of a snob when it comes to beads but I really like those

Dizzy, the playmat looks fab!
I quite fancy having a go but I dont think my sewing skills are up to it yet

Merrydian · 17/12/2007 16:58

I have just been shopping for my own x-mas present, well my own fault I told DH that I wanted to have a go at some more beads so I needed to choose what i wanted. well I did that and took them home and made two bracelets. here tell me what you think please. sorry the images are so bad bad light and only have phone camera, makes you wonder about my dh the photographer oh and i knit a little brooch yesterday.

need to knit a scarf for x-mas and wrap the rest of the presents...and bake my fingers to the bone. more cookies, mini pecan pies, dh is hinting at key lime cheesecake again but thats not very festive.

Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 17/12/2007 21:29

They're lovely Merry. I especially like the brooch. Very cute and very Sex and The City

I'm off to the craft shop tomorrow.
