Dear Aunty Soupy and The Hookers

I want to make two colour squares but hate sewing pesky ends in. I tried laying the unused wool over the fabric and crocheting round but it shows through

1. Am I doing it wrong, is there a knack?

1. If I use the same colour but do the heart/teddy in something textured like Sirdar Snowflake will I have the same problem?

2a. What type of naice yarn would work with Snowflake, which I love but is pure acrylic so I don't want to use cheap regular acrylic iyswim?

I'm doing a large ripple blanket at the moment and, after darning in the first 15 rows or so, am crocheting over the ends as I go. It seems to be fine provided what you are crocheting is a solid row of stitches. It doesn't work if the pattern has holes.

No idea about the other questions because I am really an ignorant novice still.

WRT 2a, I spent a long time rubbing balls of yarn against my cheek when choosing the yarn for DDs rabbit. I do this a lot :)

I am knitting at present as I have 2 family babies due this autumn/winter - but have got MN blanket squares to post BUT they are so plain I just keep looking at them and thinking I could fluff 'em up a bit first.

I've got a gorgeous vintage 3ply shawl that I want to crochet but both neices have got shawls.

Erm sorry miss. But in my defence I needed to do something for the babies and I have just finished my ripple blanket .

Actually - I have struggled to find crochet baby patterns that are unisex. They always seem to look a bit feminine, perhaps because the stitches are bigger than the two needle variety, so always look a little lacy. I'm on Ravelry and unless I'm crap at searching (very possible) I can't seem to find anything that floats my boat. My local wool shop lady gets a bit flustered at the word crochet too.

Woolly, you could always add a little crochet flower or heart to your squares, if you want to fluff them up

Agree with you about crochet patterns for little boys.
