I am about to embark on a rainbow ripple in Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo. Funnily enough, I did order half the colours form Kemps.

It does make a lovely blanket.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 23/05/2012 18:39

Would it mix nicely with the snowflake?

TheLightPassenger · 23/05/2012 18:59

a crochet quiche /swoon with joy

Umamiopteryx · 23/05/2012 19:03

There is a quiche!

Shock
SoupDragon · 23/05/2012 19:03

I've never used the snowflake I'm afraid so I've no idea. I really don't know about mixing yarns at all.

Morning Team Hooker Smile

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 07:23

[waves]

I'm not an overly happy hooker mind you. I put four of my blanket squares somewhere safe and can't bloody well find them Hmm

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/05/2012 07:33

Shall I send Dave to help you look Soupy?

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 08:18

Dear god no!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 24/05/2012 09:01

Can I join in? :)
I'll admit I am a little fickle and may switch between the two but for now my knitting needles are lost and the only projects I want to do are all hooky ones! Shock Grin

Especially as I though I only needed a few more granny squares for dd's blanket. I laid them out and I need another 50 maybe!!! Shock so I will be hooking for some time yet!

craftynclothy · 24/05/2012 09:44

Can I join too?

I have a ripple cushion cover and vintage vertical stripe blanket on the go.

Does anyone know of any nice patterns for a cardigan for a 5 year old girl? I wasn't taken by the ones on ravelry Shock

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 10:43

Everyone is welcome... I started this as a bit of a joke but also as the other one is geared more towards Knitters. This was we each can talk our separate nonsense

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/05/2012 11:59

craftynclothy this Sirdar pattern is quite nice. However it is one of just 2 crochet designs in their "Girls" section.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 14:33

Look what I have waiting for me when I've finished and found my squares :) I may go and change the purple as I feel it needs to be more red.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/05/2012 14:36

Busy day today, but am hoping to sit in the sun in a mo and do some more of my purplicious granny.

Soupy I like that purple! Is this for your ripple blanket? Going to be stunning.

Not found the squares then?!

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 14:39

This is very similar to that Sirdar pattern I think.

FireOverBabylon · 24/05/2012 14:45

Can I join please? I'm better at tunisian crochet, so my pointy thing is probably bigger than everyone else's! I'm working my way slowly through this blanket in short bursts in the evening. If any of you have little ones, how do you fit the crocheet around young children? I've only been crocheting for about 6 months but can never get any decent practice or speed in little 30 minute snatches.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/05/2012 14:50

Marking spot, will pop back later. I'm between projects this week, just wondering what to do next and looking for inspiration.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2012 16:17

No, I've not found the squares Blush

I've changed the purple and feel it fits better as it is more of a blueberry colour so it is closer the rainbow spectrum I think. It's for a baby ripple blanket only I've just discovered the teacher leaves next Friday!

That's a fab blanket Fireoverbabylon. What is different about Tunisian crochet? I've always wondered and never looked into it.

FireOverBabylon · 24/05/2012 16:57

A Tunisian / Afghan crochet hook looks like a knitting needle with a hook at the end. It's sort of a cross between knitting and crochet - you effectively cast stiches onto the needle, like knitting but with only one needle, and cast them off, so you have an empty hook with a line of stiches, similar to crochet. I find it easier than "proper" crochet and it's good for blankets, scarves etc although, strangley enough, you can't use it to make an afghan blanket.....there isn't enough room because you can only cast on as many stiches as you can fit onto the crochet hook. It grows at a satisfying rate.

FireOverBabylon · 24/05/2012 17:06

Oh, and if i remember the "Happy Hookers" book correctly, Tunisian crochet was also created by Victorian ladies to use as a canvas for cross stich, in the days before aida fabric. The star on my blanket will be cross stiched onto the blue once the 3 background panels are completed. I'm only saying this because you can use the Tunisian crochet to create a background to sew more interesting things onto it - unlike crochet in the round or rippled blankets etc, Tunisian crochet's not always hugely exciting on its own.
