Think I'll be unpicking my blanket to crochet myself some socks at this rate. It's FREEZING here!

Blanket looks... OK. It's sort of taking on the usual form my work does, which is annoying, but I'm going to keep going til it's a square then see what it's like instead of abandoning it like I normally do. I've been counting stitches so it should be OK, might just be my eyes... :)

Right, I've figured out my problem.

My starting chain is too tight - so as I'm going, it's pulling my work into a curvy thing instead of a square. Need to find my bigger hook as that should solve it.

Also, I have to get the train on Sunday to get to the hockey, rather than getting a lift. I'll also have to get a tram. Is it wrong I want to take my project with me for a couple of hours of practice?

Nope? Thought not Grin!

Not at all, we're going away for the weekend and i will crochet in the car!

I got chatted up while crocheting on a train once. By a young man, not an old woman as well! Wink

I am forcing myself to finish one more colour repeat on my rainbow ripple before I embark on this and the mini hug.

Popping in to say hello. I am still going strong (after you all kindly helped me to learn to crochet in summer). I am nearly at 156 4 round granny squares and have taught myself to join them.

I have a list in my head of all of the lovely things I want to try next.

I am a little bit in love with Lucy from Attic24.

Thanks all of you again. It's really nice to have a hobby. Some of you probably already know that my DD is very ill. We have to spend a lot of time indoors or at hospital. I'm really enjoying having something productive to do, and it stops me eating. I've lost 20lbs since the start of August on a combination of SW, walking and crochet!!! Grin

Wow, kinky, such a lot on your plate and you've acheived so much! Thanks

If there's a hooker in the area, I'm sure they would drop off supplies if you need them, or just fancy some company in the hospital cafe one day :)

Kinky, I'm sorry to read about your DD.

It's lovely to hear that you are enjoying crocheting. I find it very soothing and I agree with the fact that it prevents grazing - I don't want greasy fingers so I don't stop for a bag of crisps!

I'm sure your blanket will be beautiful when it is completed

I completely agree that crocheting is a great diet aid, I've lost a stone in five weeks and I am keeping myself occupied with the crocheting so I don't stuff my face through boredom

Thanks Thanks Thanks all. Purple we aren't in at the moment, but if last year is anything to go by, it is very possible that we will be in again through the autumn/winter as she is immuno-suppressed and picks up everything. I was sewing little felt baubles when we were in last year just before Christmas. The teenage cancer unit has the best selection of crafty bits, and the lovely lady who works there was pleased to have some people up for a bit of crafting! I will deffo be taking crochet with me, should we end up in again. DD ends up bored too, especially if she gets isolated, so I will teach her too. Smile

aJumped YY to crispy fingers! Wolf I started at 5.30pm this evening (on my Saturday munchy night) and have only just stopped now, 4.5hrs later, to have some mango. I feel all virtuous Grin.

I'm down to the last dozen to do, then I have to put it all together. I'm starting to regret not having a pattern in mind, as I suspect trying to organise 2 colour squares in 13 colours is going to be a bigger challenge than what I originally imagined...

Dp did an Ultra Marathon for Brad's Cancer Foundation in 2010, and is training to run London to Brighton next year for the same cause, so I'm glad to hear of some useful end results :)

Have any of you crocheted a beard before? My hubby saw one on the web the other day and has been going on about them saying how funny they are and could I crochet him one. Ive found some links but wondered if any of you had croheted one before?

Hello hookers! Can't even remember what my last name change was but Pistey would spookily recognise me like she did when I emailed her about last blanket

So I have a question. I have tentatively started on my first big project. I am making a blanket from a variety of 6 inch squares using this lovely book for inspiration The only problem is my squares are all wobbly. They are square but I need to flatten them! Is this blocking? If so, any tips on how to do it would be gratefully received

I'm just waiting to do my next wool order to get some stylecraft for a little woolly hug too (pre-emptive defence before Pidj gets here Wink Grin) I saw a lovely pram blanket in blue, cream and beige the other day so think I'm going to try that colour combination.

Wink

Don't bother blocking squares (ironing between two damp teatowels) because they'll pull into shape when you crochet them together

Report
BananaCarpets · 26/09/2012 16:00

Is that all blocking is Pidj? The damp tea towels trick?! I thought it involved pinning and towels Blush Excellent. The reason I wanted them flat was to check on the sizes.

Thanks Smile

Report
PurplePidjin · 26/09/2012 18:28

You can pin, but blocking is basically "ironing into shape" so it depends how lacy your work is. As i said, blankets squares are hauled into shape by their friends anyway so blocking is fairly futile.
