Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

I didn’t realise people still used Facebook!

It wouldn’t be something I would do, but maybe they find it a way to share pictures with family etc.? You aren’t obliged to look through all of them!

itsadlibitum · 08/10/2026 12:33

I mainly use social media as a photo album for myself, so i can look back at pictures I like rather than scrolling through 27000on my iCloud. You can always just unfollow….

If your only fling it for yourself you can set your posts to only me.

People are the main characters of their own lives. It's reasonable for them to put posts on their social media, of their life.

If people using social media for its intended purpose is so galling to you, I suggest you delete all the apps and do something far more cultured with your time.

thefourthbeatle · 08/10/2026 12:38

Be thankful these people aren't still using Myspace 😮‍💨

TremendousFlatulence · 08/10/2026 12:38

So just limit the posts that you can see? Or unfriend the people who are causing you such angst? Or scroll past - you are not obligated to look or react. Or come off Facebook as it's clearly an irritation to you?
I have people who do this as well. I sometimes just 'like' the original post and don't bother even looking at all the photos because I don't want to. They'll never know and I'm not annoyed.

NerrSnerr · 08/10/2026 12:38

You don’t have to look. I have a few family and friends who I enjoy looking at their photos on Facebook so I look. There are others I have no interest in so I don’t. I usually put some holiday pics on FB as I like it when they come up in my memories.

ThatLoudCat · 08/10/2026 12:38

That's what social media is for? Lots of people use it as a kind of gallery too for all their photos.

I like scrolling through people's holiday pics. I never remember to take my own though. I always mean to.

I don’t know why I would - family and some friends like to see them to. I enjoy looking at other peoples holiday photos, especially people I care about. As I said, they can always unfollow if it’s boring.

Why do they assume everyone is interested in every move they make?
Can't they enjoy their holidays without posting 53 pictures every day? How can they enjoy when they are thinking of the next FB post?

You really have to ask the question why?
Why do they think they are so important that people want to see their daily lives?

Hardly anyone I know uses fb anymore, I only use it for local stuff that's going on, I'd be interested to see an actual human's post!

It's the same as when people used to show you their holiday pics. I remember my mum and dad's friends showing us a slideshow they'd made (back in the 80s). Everyone's the main character in their own holiday because you're the one experiencing it.

But i do think it's less fun for the person on holiday if you're always seeing life through a lens instead of immersed in the experiences. The lens creates a sort of barrier, and the experiences become less intense. Back in the camera days I used to leave it behind on some days for that reason. That's harder to do with phones that you need for other things.

They don’t think they are important. They are just living their own lives and sharing that with their friends. It’s bizarre you take such issue with it, just don’t look at them if they bother or bore you 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes someone showed me how to do this a few years back when I said I mainly used it as an album!

I don’t post anything til I’m back from holiday these days - just one succinct post about the holiday as a whole

MajorSamanthaCarter · 08/10/2026 12:50

You're always a right curmudgeon, everything annoys you 🤷‍♀️

Needmorelego · 08/10/2026 12:50

Errr.... that's what Facebook is for.
A personal scrapbook of your life that you can share with people who can decide whether or not they want to look at it 🤷
Not interested? Unfriend the person or just ignore.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/10/2026 12:53

Although I should say it doesn’t bother me when others post a lot of holiday photos - I can ignore if I’m not interested

Lomonald · 08/10/2026 12:53

I love holiday photos on FB, I not very good at taking photos so hardly post, but i do enjoy looking at others, I never understand people moaning about people they are supposed to like posting about their life.

Me too. I don’t give a shiny shite about whether people think I’m showing off when I’m on holiday, I like having my photos all in one place as a reminder of a fabulous trip.

Do you simply not understand the premise of social media? You are annoyed by it's very purpose.

This is squarely in the realm of a YOU problem.

KuanKaKu · 08/10/2026 13:02

I enjoy seeing people's holiday/travel content, much more than say any home or food content. I also have family and friends who are not local and like to see where we have been, some of these are unable to travel / do not want to travel but very much enjoy being arm chair travellers. There is no obligation to engage with any content you do not want to.

You don’t need to look. It’s a major step up from the old days when you had to sit and look at people’s photos / slideshows. And people use it as a reference for themselves.

Same if you ever go to a music concert. As soon as the act comes on stage out come the phones for the whole of the gig ...jeeeez !!

I'm widowed. I travel alone. Consequently I don't get to share my experiences with someone at the time.

So occasionally I'll share some photos on Facebook, comfortable in the knowledge that only those who are interested will open the posts. In fact I even joke about it in my posts and give everyone permission to scroll by. But it's nice to have a few people comment, often because they have memories of the same place or because it's somewhere they'd like to visit.
It's just a bit of connection for me while away on my own
