Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

Why do they assume everyone is interested in every move they make?
Can't they enjoy their holidays without posting 53 pictures every day? How can they enjoy when they are thinking of the next FB post?

You really have to ask the question why?
Why do they think they are so important that people want to see their daily lives?

Why do you have Facebook?

This is the whole purpose of the app, so if that doesn’t appeal to you, just delete it.

Are people still doing this on FB?!

Stupid comment. Where would you like them to do it? 🙄

I mainly use social media as a photo album for myself, so i can look back at pictures I like rather than scrolling through 27000on my iCloud. You can always just unfollow….

Agreed, but when you upload photos to Facebook they lose a lot of resolution, so are then only really suitable for viewing on a phone or tablet.

cupfinalchaos · 08/10/2026 15:28

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 12:34

If your only fling it for yourself you can set your posts to only me.

Yes you can unfollow on Facebook.. not so much on a family WhatsApp. Who wants to see 50 of someone’s photos?

To be fair to you, I've been on holiday and seen people so busy taking endless photos of themselves that i'm not sure they remember to have fun.

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 08/10/2026 15:58

I am interested. I love seeing how people are enjoying their holidays, and it helps me plan mine too. If you don't, scroll past. Or maybe message your friends and inform them that you find knowing about their life and seeing photos of their joyful memories very boring, that just help trim your online and real life social circle down to a more manageable amount.

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2026 15:59

I have someone on mine who goes on holiday 5,000 times a year and is SO TONE DEAF about it, saying how she’s living each day, making the most of things, doing better than everyone else because she’s prioritising seeing the world and hashtag making memories, putting stupid memes up along the lines of “oops, I booked another holiday!” 🙊

I like her but this truly pisses me off. I’m sure plenty of us would be seeing the world at every opportunity if only we had the funds.

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2026 16:00

Oh and another friend who I do like in real life, but whose endless photos of bloody cathedrals from a million different angles has made me unfollow her.

FuglyBitch · 08/10/2026 16:01

I actually prefer those than being influenced or sold to by big brands, or seeing political propaganda, I live vicariously through people’s holidays pictures

AMarkAMissionABrandAScar · 08/10/2026 16:01

Catza · 08/10/2026 13:16

No, they don't think that their pictures are important to YOU personally. But all of these people have other people in their lives for whom the pictures will be important. My mum posted 70 pictures from her holiday the other day. She lives abroad, I won't see her till next year and I love seeing what they were up to when they went away and beautiful places they saw.
And most of my family would feel the same way about my pictures if I ever bothered to post on FB. But even thought I don't post, I still take pictures and a lot of them. This is something we always did as a family and had mountains of negatives, prints that my grandfather developed himself in a dark room he set up in our basement and slides. He bought his first digital camera as soon as they became available. It was a clunky odd thing with terrible photo quality but we continued to take thousands of pictures a year as a family. I am not going to give up the tradition that's been in our family for generations because a random acquaintance on FB feels that I am not doing my holiday right.

ETA: shock horror but one of my favourite pictures of my mum is her as a 19-year-old.. standing in the sea!!!

Edited

Exactly. My best friend has recently adopted a baby and you can bet I wanted to see her photos from their first holiday together. So did her relatives and her other best friend from work. Sure, her mates from sixth form in 2004 probably aren't fussed but they can just unfriend or scroll past!

But you can just not look at them or put a love heart or say it looks like you had a great time. Etc

midlifeattheoasis · 08/10/2026 16:05

I find them insufferable.

I’m not on Facebook or instagram but I’ve had to go on instagram to contact a hairdresser that has been recommended. A quick scroll through and I just can’t understand this self fucking promotion. It’s just alien to me why people think others are interested in what they’re doing!

cupfinalchaos · 08/10/2026 16:06

I think it’s ok to say one finds it irritating.

AbsintheMakesTheHeartGrowFonder · 08/10/2026 13:42

Unless they also share their postal address on Facebook, this isn’t going to be a problem.

Who do you think is going to burgle them? Their old school friends from sixth form? Their mum?

I know of two instances (through work) where people have posted on social media that they are abroad and they have been burgled.
It wasn't friends that did it but friends of friends.
I doubt the home insurance companies paid out.

grinandslothit · 08/10/2026 16:13

What do you post on Facebook?

It is their feed they have a right to post what they want to if you don't like it you can always scroll by and not look at it or you can mute them or unfriend them

Yes, they’re like the friends/relatives of yesteryear that used to turn up with packs of developed holiday pics. 🙄

Boring. 🤷‍♀️

But, at least with FB etc you don’t have to get involved. 👍

It surprises me that people still bother to burgle.

If we got burgled, I wonder what they'd take.

My ancient laptop which doesn't even turn on and needs to go back to the repair shop?

Our second hand TV with a squiggly line across the screen?

Maybe my breastfeeding ring?

Best of luck to them.

I like you. That stupid 'oops I just booked another holiday' is so annoying.
Also I've actually seen on facebook today the photos of a cathedral from a million different angles from a friend. I didn't look at them all obviously, but it's so true.

Hardly anyone I know uses fb anymore, I only use it for local stuff that's going on, I'd be interested to see an actual human's post!

It's the same as when people used to show you their holiday pics. I remember my mum and dad's friends showing us a slideshow they'd made (back in the 80s). Everyone's the main character in their own holiday because you're the one experiencing it.

But i do think it's less fun for the person on holiday if you're always seeing life through a lens instead of immersed in the experiences. The lens creates a sort of barrier, and the experiences become less intense. Back in the camera days I used to leave it behind on some days for that reason. That's harder to do with phones that you need for other things.

I get fed up of it all being recycled news stories and lazy journalists, BUT most people I know who were on it, are still on it. Do people you know gravitate toward other sm platforms, or just not use sm at all?

I realise social media has its perils but as someone who's lived in several different places, I do find there's a merit to having it. I might not see Sarah Bloggs any more, but I still send her the odd msg and am interested in her life.

PicaK · 08/10/2026 16:26

I create the holiday album at the end of the year. And I can only be arsed to do 1 post - so the first 5 are for anyone who wants to look and the rest just there to go in my album.
But the idea of being on FB is you see what people are up to. I love looking at my mates' holiday posts. I get a thrill knowing they're having a great time. Sometimes I'll wade through all 53 sometimes I won't.
You can always scroll. They're just posting photos not making a grand statement about how important they think they are. I'll have your fb friend if you don't want them and I'll comment "looks lovely!" on their posts

i like to see photos but I don’t have any friends whose photos are selfies. They are in the main taking photos of things.

I think looking at friends holiday photos on Facebook is better than looking at various uknown to you 'celebs'/'influencers' on Instragram.

DahliaDelights · 08/10/2026 16:33

I normally put a load of photos on so my elderly mother and MIL who cant travel, can see the far away places. They look through them all and comment on most.

If you dont like it, dont look or unfollow them. Stop being so mard arse about someone elses life. Maybe mind your own business?

Bitter and twisted isnt a good look.
