Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

Agreed. One woman I know (married 2 kids 10 and 12) goes on holiday twice a year to the same place. A little caravan park in the UK. A week each time.

Cue around 120 photos over the week on Facebook, around 80 of her 2 kids, and 40 of her and her hubs (that's what she calls him!) and the 4 of them together. Endless photos of her kids... On the trampolines, on the beach, on the donkeys, on a fair ride, on a roundabout in the park, on a swing in the park, on a slide in the park, in a sandpit in the park, shoving food into their mouth in a cafe, drinking coke through a straw in the cafe, throwing a ball, catching a ball, holding a ball, standing in front of a gift shop, perusing items in the gift shop, paying for items at the till in the gift shop, putting on their trainers, taking off their trainers, building a sandcastle, knocking down a sandcastle, paddling in the sea, etc etc etc.........................😴

So tedious, and boring. I have actually unfollowed her now - not unfriended, unfollowed... For some reason she feels the need to post dozens of photos of her kids every week... But the amount she posts whilst on holiday is farcical. What a great way of advertising the fact your house is empty and you are 60 miles from home too!

Why do they assume everyone is interested in every move they make?
Can't they enjoy their holidays without posting 53 pictures every day? How can they enjoy when they are thinking of the next FB post?

You really have to ask the question why?
Why do they think they are so important that people want to see their daily lives?

It's not exactly onerous to take lots of photos and upload them to FB. And some people enjoy taking photos as a hobby. I love looking through my friends photos, but if you don't, just scroll past or unfriend as PP have said.

Berlinlover · 08/10/2026 19:07

I love looking at people’s holidays photos, I’m obsessed with travel though.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/10/2026 19:37

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 17:35

Even if I did they would still do it.
Most of its not remotely interesting.

We need to ask why people feel the need to post everything online for likes.

You've missed the point. Stop looking because you don't want to see the photos not to change their behaviour.

Poor kids bet they've never given their consent to have their childhoods splashed all over Facebook.

Is she scared people will forget what they look like?

Why are you blooking at the photos if you have no interest?

I think she's just on a wind up now tbh. Attention seeking.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/10/2026 19:50

I quite like holiday photos, especially if they are of somewhere I’ve never been.

Legopotamus · 08/10/2026 20:11

As soon as someone checks in at the airport on fb I mute them for 30 days.

I can be a right miserable bitch, but even I love seeing people's holiday photos.

That's the thing. This woman has 1750 'friends.' 🙄 I reckon she doesn't know even one tenth of them in person/in real life, and they're just friends of friends of friends, and friends of family and neighbours, and old colleagues and their extended family and friends, and new colleagues and their extended family and friends, and just randoms who have added her over the last 12-13 years.... ANYone could have hold of all these photos.

My DC are grown now, and were early teens before FB became quite popular, and I never joined til they were in their mid teens, and I have only ever had 60-80 friends on there. And I know every single one of them. I also don't put my DC's photos on very often.

People can post what they want (as long as legal) on their own social media.

You don't have to look, you can block, unfollow or unfriend.

IStillHearTheWaves · 08/10/2026 20:31

I'd think 2006 had called and wanted them back.

to get to see other peole's facebook posts, one of you has to request the other to be a "friend" and the requestee has to agree.

You can just unfriend them and live in your friendless social media bubble and be happy about it. And they can continue to use their SM however they want

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 08/10/2026 20:41

People have always shared photos though, it's not new. Do you not remember the old days when your neighbour would being their printed folder full of snaps and bore your mum and dad witless with them. It actually is way more dedicated to get the film developed and then trek around your family and friends to show them off. Nowadays is the same it's just free and easy. Whenever I pop things up I normally think either, my auntie will love seeing what the kids are up to, or I will want to look back/be reminded of this. Honestly, if you take this view of holiday pics, why does anyone put anything up at all? I'd rather see Shirley in the Maldives with some interesting backdrops (love getting trip ideas) than Barbara's kids going into years 5 and 7, or Tom from down the road sharing his new car.

MadMAGA · 08/10/2026 20:47

My Facebook feed has so much content I didn't ask for in it, I'm just happy to see anything from my friends. I don't feel any obligation to go through all 53 photos of them but I'm glad they're having a good time.

LowlandLucky · 08/10/2026 20:48

I was on holiday a few weeks ago, the hotel was beautiful, really "Insta worthy" as this middle aged woman was telling her husband as she stood on the top step of the staircase with her back to him as he took a photo, she looked at the photo and insisted it was retaken as her right foot didn't look high enough to be going downstairs and the beach bag was in the wrong position. They then got in the lift with me. I couldn't keep a straight face.

StuNur85 · 08/10/2026 20:49

I love seeing holiday photos people post.

malloryknox123 · 08/10/2026 20:56

I like to have people momentarily envious of me. My DH recently caught a once in a lifetime shot of me smiling on a bike in the Alps, I looked fifteen years younger due to having the sun behind me. There was no way I wasn’t sharing that

I think you should just unfollow them or delete themif you don't actually like them much or enjoy their posts!

Imagine thinking that someone else should set their posts to 'only me' because you don't want to see their holiday pics 😂

They might think that you are their friend.
They probably have no idea that you are two faced and judgemental!

They might be wanting their friends and family to see their holiday pics and their friends and family might want to see them!
I've been known to tell people to take lots of pics when they go away. I get excited for them and enjoy living vicariously for a while.

If you do actually like this person OP and it's just holiday pictures you aren't interested in, or you just genuinely are baffled by the fact that some people like to put more pics up on social xial media more than others, then you can do things like 'snooze for 30 days'?

Polipocket60 · 08/10/2026 21:25

Why are you 'friends' with them if you're not interested in their life?? I used to love Facebook when more people posted up their photos and updates on their life. Especially for people I know who I don't see in person because they live far away. I loved to see the fun/interesting things they are doing and how their kids are growing up. Because they're my friends. I'm really sad that when I flick through Facebook now it's nearly all adverts/companies and hardly anyone posts photos of their kids (I know the reasons, you don't need to lecture me)

I don't know what you think social media is for if it's not for sharing about your life? What is it that you want to see on there??

I still post family pictures/holiday pics because I'm only 'friends' with people I actually know in real life, and lots of them tell me how much they like seeing what we're up to.
