Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

I agree people are too self absorbed. I watched a family at the beach set up what seemed to be a nice family day at the beach with young children and older kids. They did a couple of games which they filmed and once that was finished stopped recording and left. It was all just “look how much fun we are having” video opportunity. I felt for the young kids , never seen anything so ridiculous. Instead of actually enjoying people are too busy making it look like they are.

Taking photos doesn't mean they aren't enjoying it but I am well travelled and you do get places in the world where the Instagram brigade do your head in! Silly young women that want 50 photographs they pose for and then keep looking through and then demanding more then once they are happy they swap with the boyfriend and he wants 50 photographs and meanwhile they are making lots of people wait to take a photo of the actual scenery - those type of people need to realise how annoying and selfish they are! They do seem to treat as more of a glamour shoot than a holiday.

When I went to Bath recently we visited the Roman baths, and I kid you not, these two young ladies spent at least 20 minutes posing at one particular spot, reviewing the photos, deleting some, doing it all again and then swapping round. We went for a walk round the museum bit, came back out by the water, and they were still at it 😂.

Istanbul was also full of young ladies doing their own personal modelling shoot while huge queues built up behind them.

Exactly, I have no issue with photos or videos on holiday - of course they are memories. It’s the fake look at me lifestyle I can’t be doing with.

You don't need that Istanbul, I enjoyed a trip there the other year but it's a hectic enough place without the photoshoots!

Vietnam was bad for it! A lot of young oriental people do it and the girls will dress up in frilly dresss with lace gloves and frilly umbrellas! It's a nightmare on a busy street in Hoi An! We went on a lovely rooftop terrace for an iced coffee and people kept coming up to do photoshoots then going back down which is not only annoying when you are trying to relax with an iced coffee but you also wonder if they actually bought a coffee to be fair to the coffee shop.

Oh it makes me and my partner cringe watching the cheesy stereotypical Instagram poses the girls all pull! Then you get your Muppets that do it in inappropriate places like holocaust memorials etc! Worst thing I ever saw was a guy getting his kid to pose and do a nazi salute next to a statue in Berlin!

I do use Facebook every day. Communicate with our litter picking group, see pages of daft things

When you see your friends / siblings / parents in person, don't you chat to each other about what's going on in your lives?

Most people, in real life, talk to their friends and family about their relationships, their kids, their jobs, their holidays and any number of other things about their lives.

Why is that any different to doing the same thing with friends on social media?

Of course I chat, ask questions and am interested in what my family and friends are doing. However, there’s an obvious difference to a face to face chat which is a two way interaction as opposed to someone’s need to post their daily movements.

midlifeattheoasis · 10/10/2026 11:15

Stompythedinosaur · 09/10/2026 14:27

Maybe social media isn't for you?

Posting about your life and reading about other people's lives is surely the main point of it!

I like seeing other people's holidays (and their cats, and what their dc are up to, all of that!).

You’re correct, social media definitely isn’t for me. I’ve never been one for banging on about myself, which what most people love to do these days

midlifeattheoasis · 10/10/2026 11:17

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/10/2026 14:06

You dont have to but other people can do what they please.

Of course they can and I’m not say they can’t. I just don’t see the need to let the world know what you're doing

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 10/10/2026 12:32

Um, it’s your Facebook page your Facebook page to update at will with what you are doing amoungst other things? Then, if they choose to, the people you consider friends can like and/or comment should they choose to? Or scroll… obviously…

RikthePoet · 10/10/2026 12:37

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 12:41

Why do they assume everyone is interested in every move they make?
Can't they enjoy their holidays without posting 53 pictures every day? How can they enjoy when they are thinking of the next FB post?

You really have to ask the question why?
Why do they think they are so important that people want to see their daily lives?

You are in control of what you look at. You are not obliged to scroll.

It's you, not them.

I went to da lat flower festival a few years ago. Was very difficult getting any pictures of the displays due to people doing " Photoshoots"

You sound like you have no life to be honest! You are staring at Facebook and seething at lives that seem better than yours! If you feel hatred for it don't look at it!
My partner and I don't have kids, we like travelling and yes we put photos up of scenery and interesting things we've seen, we aren't selfie obsessed so it's not pictures of us. We post pretty much nothing on Facebook the rest of the time! There are people in our life that like looking where we've been and getting travel inspiration from it because we tend to go to the more unusual places.

It's not up to you what people post and you really do come across as jealous and miserable!

Better lol. Whose to say I don't have holidays. Maybe Im able to go about my life without the need to broadcast everything I do.

I don't assume that other people want to read what I'm doing all the time. We managed our lived before social media.

Less is more.

But you are arrogantly assuming that holiday photos mean that we are on Facebook everyday posting every inch of our life and you need to realise that many of us that upload holiday photos post very little else! I don't see it on my Facebook feed that's for sure! If you are seeing so much mundane posts that it's making you so angry and hateful, stop clicking it and liking it because you must be! None of us on here have anything like that on our facebook feeds! Everybody posting on here seems to find you unpleasant, maybe you should think about that!

Forgedsnak · 10/10/2026 22:10

I preferred fb as at least it’s optional. Now people WhatsApp me hundreds of holiday pictures

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 10/10/2026 22:10

Is anyone still on Facebook? I thought it was all dodgy political videos showing invasions of brown people and our city centres covered in rubbish?
Real people you mean? Posting still?

Does beg the question everyone keeps asking you and that is why are you on it then and why get so vexed about it ?

I don’t use Facebook and haven’t done so since 2015 and I rarely post on Instagram but I can’t get worked up over this. I think people posting all their holiday pics is one of the more harmless aspects of the cesspit that is Facebook.

Some people use it like a diary I guess, a public digital diary lol

I mean people used to post about what they ate and all kinds of random things back when it first started 😂

And tbh with all the mishaps that can happen while on hols sometimes it’s good for safety reasons to post as much as you can. Many police investigations have been helped by someone’s photo uploads.

Yeah I find it very strange. A old friend sent me a Facebook charity donation link the other day and I couldn’t donate via that link as I don’t have an account anymore.

She (despite being an immigrant herself and the mother of mixed race children) suddenly is banging on about those same views you allude to and I honestly believe it’s due to Facebook. She was never like that before.
