Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

I find them insufferable.

I’m not on Facebook or instagram but I’ve had to go on instagram to contact a hairdresser that has been recommended. A quick scroll through and I just can’t understand this self fucking promotion. It’s just alien to me why people think others are interested in what they’re doing!

Because some of us are interested in other people. You can get the details of the hairdresser (although I'm sure there are other ways than via Instagram) and then never look at her posts again.

HolidayPlanningAgain · 08/10/2026 16:38

I like seeing friends and families holiday pics, and it often gives me inspiration of where to try next.
would never have thought of doing day trips to Europe until I saw it on someone else’s post and now do several a year

I know of two instances (through work) where people have posted on social media that they are abroad and they have been burgled.
It wasn't friends that did it but friends of friends.
I doubt the home insurance companies paid out.

They should have made sure their settings are set so Friends of Friends can't see their posts.

Tinmanwalkedpastwindeh · 08/10/2026 16:39

An acquaintance of mine just dropped an 11 part album of her recent 1 week holiday abroad.

AlliAlliActor · 08/10/2026 16:42

Awww my MIL does this. She tags me in them as well so I get a notification to go look through them, even though I’m literally not there. It wouldn’t occur to her that anyone would think badly of her for it. I do have a bit of a giggle with my husband about her making sure we know what she’s had for breakfast that morning (genuinely, I’m not even exaggerating), but I think it’s lovely, long may she enjoy her holidays!

Happyholidays78 · 08/10/2026 16:43

I like to look at a few holiday pictures but I am noticing nowadays that there are a lot of selfies rather than a picture of the scenery or beach/castle etc. I like to see & get some inspiration but it's a bit difficult when someone's big head is in the way 😀

SwirlyGates · 08/10/2026 16:43

I like to see them, and I share mine as well.

What do you think the point of Facebook is? For me it's seeing updates of various kinds from my friends, and sharing mine. These days especially I'm glad to see friends' photos, as my fed is getting dominated by ads and stuff posted by people I've never heard of, that the algorithms think I'll want to see.

You don't know why a Hairdresser would self promote? I mean i didn't get my hairdresser from instagram but I can see why they would be on there, you are right though social media isn't for you.

Itsasecretnow · 08/10/2026 16:47

I agree that if you don’t want to see them then just scroll past, unfriend/block (or whatever it is you do on fb these days, I’ve not used it in forever!) main offenders, BUT, otoh, I still clicked on yanbu just because yes they’re still Facebook Holiday Bores whether I could (hypothetically!) see them or not 😂
Both can still be true 😂

PinkyFlamingo · 08/10/2026 16:53

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 16:31

Of course they can, by why do they want too? Some people are really over the top they can't let a day go by with posting something Its obsessive just stop .

What's wrong with you? You've been told by numerous people to unfriend or scroll by. You don't get to dictate what people post on their own social media.

Then stop looking every day, it’s not mandatory,

AutumnsFinallyHere · 08/10/2026 17:14

I like seeing people's holiday photos if they put a few a day or post at the end of the holiday. But I agree with you OP that not many people will want to see 50-odd photos per day. I don't know how they have time to enjoy the holiday to be honest.

In my world, the 4 million photos per day crew (of which to be fair there aren't many) tend to be those who need constant public validation for everything else they do in life too.

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 17:25

AbsintheMakesTheHeartGrowFonder · 08/10/2026 13:39

They don’t assume everyone is interested. They’re simply using social media for its intended purpose. They’re fully aware that not everyone will be interested and will assume, correctly, that anyone who isn’t interested can simply scroll past.

It’s amazing that you apparently think your friends should tailor their social media to your preferences. I don’t think it’s your friend who has main character syndrome here.

I really don’t understand why so many people are so bitter about other people’s social media activity. If you don’t like seeing updates, don’t follow them. Or don’t use social media at all. Going on Facebook and then moaning about people using it for the exact purpose it was designed for, when you’re under zero obligation to engage with it, is just weird. Do you also sit and watch programmes you can’t stand on telly every week and then write to the BBC to complain about not liking them?

No it's slightly different. I'm talking about the people who obsessively post crap every day and blow by blow accounts of their holiday too.
It usually goes hand in hand. They can't stop home and away.
I'm at the airport and pictures
I'm in the plane picture in the plane
We've arrived and picture.
That's before you start the daily holiday posts.
Then on the way back the same. and the post now we are home.
Just go away and get a life thinking your so important.

If you can't go a day in your life without documenting everything then you need help.

Aren’t you a ray of sunshine?

I’m assuming, if on FACEBOOK, these people are your friends

You are obviously not interested in what they do so maybe Take them off your friend list

I love seeing other peoples holiday pictures and I’ve post my ones and people say they like mine

FACEBOOK is Normally to share stuff For their friends to see

No one is making you look at 53 pictures or even Count them

FelixRyark · 08/10/2026 17:33

You are mistaken if you believe the photos are for everyone else. A lot of my family, of a certain age, who still use Facebook, use it as a kind of holiday journal and they look back at their photos, as no one prints their snaps anymore.

You can choose not to look, and scroll by.

Even if I did they would still do it.
Most of its not remotely interesting.

We need to ask why people feel the need to post everything online for likes.

I mainly use social media as a photo album for myself, so i can look back at pictures I like rather than scrolling through 27000on my iCloud. You can always just unfollow….

You can also set your privacy settings for a photo dump to ‘only me’ so they don’t keep popping up on all your friends feeds

We don’t.
People can post what they want on their FB.
It’s not up to you to ask why they do it.
What do you post on FB?

durdledoris · 08/10/2026 17:47

My neighbour does this too op, at least 50 pics a day. I had to stop following her!

Thecows · 08/10/2026 17:54

boredsmored · 08/10/2026 14:38

Are people still doing this on FB?!

Yes they are funnily enough, it's sort of what it was invented for ..

Thecows · 08/10/2026 18:06

You sound very outraged OP, most odd. You have plenty of choices, scroll by, unfollow, ignore, like and move on, come off FB or maybe take an interest in your actual friends holiday.

Indeed, shocking.
Why do we care about Henry David Thoreau enough to read about his experience of living in the wilderness. Why do we care that Anselm Kiefer paints his giant sunflowers in an airplane hanger. What a shameless "self fucking promotion" to write books and exhibit in the Royal Academy. And don't get me started on all the documentaries... David Attenborough should be ashamed of himself!
