Facebook holiday bores.

What do you think of people who are suffering from main character syndrome when they are on holiday.
The everyday updates on what they are doing and 53 photos. 53.

Taking the phone in the sea and doing a selfie so we can see what they look like in the sea.

It's like some people can't relax anymore unless they are broadcasting every day for validation.

Be thankful we arnt friends cause involved everyday more than once, meals and sea photos..everything and around 150 per day. But I also upload everything in life too at christmas etc. I dojt care what anyone else thinks. Let them be bitter about there own boring lives.

Even if I did they would still do it.
Most of its not remotely interesting.

We need to ask why people feel the need to post everything online for likes.

Numerous people have already answered this. You sound angry and frankly a bit jealous. Just dont look or mute the poster if they irritate you so much.

I get fed up of it all being recycled news stories and lazy journalists, BUT most people I know who were on it, are still on it. Do people you know gravitate toward other sm platforms, or just not use sm at all?

I realise social media has its perils but as someone who's lived in several different places, I do find there's a merit to having it. I might not see Sarah Bloggs any more, but I still send her the odd msg and am interested in her life.

I agree with you about staying in touch with people from different places - I can't quite bring myself to delete it.

My fb friends don't post much anymore, with a few exceptions. I think people lurk still more than they let on. Maybe they are on it too for local community stuff! I posted once last year and some unexpected people liked it so they must be wandering around it from time to time. I think a lot of people are more active on Instagram (which I deleted, found it annoying). Or LinkedIn. Or just WhatsApping people they know a bit better.

I love to see people's travel pictures. It can be really inspiring. You could actually learn something as well.

I am one of those people who do a little daily update on what I have done each day when I travel (frequently) and do a daily photo diary of the things I have seen and done.

The feedback I get is really positive. I know I have inspired other women to go on solo adventures, who might otherwise not have the confidence to go.

People find the content interesting and informative, I often include educational content about the subjects of my photography. I am a jack of all trades and master of none, so my photos might include landscapes, long exposures of waterfalls, wildlife photography of unusual or exciting wildlife (whales, eagles, hummingbirds, sloths), pictures of the milky way if I am in a dark skies area, or just seeing interesting historical places around the world. I might do street photography in Asia. Street photography is awesome for getting a glance into how other cultures live. I got some amazing shots of the people who live on the train tracks in Hanoi, Vietnam. We just don't see things like that in our day to day lives, and I love sharing these experiences with people.

I sometimes travel.with my grandchild and the family like.to know what we are up to.

I fail to see how this is main character syndrome?

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 08/10/2026 22:04

I don’t get on many holidays so personally adore looking at other people’s photos! I think if you just move on the way fb is now you’ll never even see that person again let as line have to look at photos you don’t want to!!

EmmaB1309 · 08/10/2026 22:07

I’ll tell you what I feel- jealous!
Seriously, I feel nothing about it, it’s harmless. And this isn’t what main character syndrome is, unless you are also on this holiday and they are treating everyone around them as minor characters, a lack of empathy and totally self absorbed. If you are just the person looking on Facebook then you’ve no idea if this is how they are acting.

Absolutely brilliant, I just love this

The OP didn't come back, I suspect because pretty much everyone disagreed with them. Long live FB holidays I say! 😁

LostInTheDream · 09/10/2026 01:07

So much negativity towards what people post.
If you dont like real people posting their real lives why are you even on social media. What is it that's kept you there.

Most people have a core set of people who are genuinely interested (like close friends, family), and another set of fb friends that are a either a bit nosy or think well of someone they know having a nice time. If you are going to be mean, why are you friends with them?

57 in a day isn't likely to be especially curated, imo thats a photo dump. You don't need to look if you don't want to. I don't mind them.

What I hate on Facebook is that I get sad animal rescue stories from everywhere that I didn't follow, ads for random things that I have no interest in, groups I haven't followed. Community groups from places 200 miles away. Give me an old school friends/work collegues holiday snaps any day 🤷‍♀️

Goatsarebest · 09/10/2026 01:44

Posting is an invitation to look, share and comment. You can decline the invitation. Making that invitation does not make them a bore. Some people want to look, share and comment. Saying someone is a bore for giving people the opportunity to share the experience, if they want to, is pretty self absorbed and, dare I say it, borring. Just scroll on by.

Goatsarebest · 09/10/2026 01:50

The real question you need to ask OP is why you are looking at something that bores you, not why they are posting.
Why they post is up to them, why you look and get so bored is up to you.

As soon as someone checks in at the airport on fb I mute them for 30 days.

😊 😊

I love Facebook. I use it to blast out my opinions to the world and stay in touch with family. I do sometimes wonder why they don’t reciprocate 🧐

chichi001 · 09/10/2026 02:44

I absolutely love looking at people's holiday photos (or anything photos!). The people on my social media are people I care about, and seeing them happy makes me happy.

ItsNotMeEither · 09/10/2026 03:08

You know you can unfollow people right? Those three little dots on the top right. You’ll remain friends, you can still search their name and go to their page, but you won’t see their posts randomly popping up in your feed. You can also snooze people for 30 days.

Funnily enough, I left on holiday this morning. 5 countries in Asia, I will probably share one post a day. I don’t care whether friends look at it or they don’t. But, I’ve got a lot of friend who travel and we all get ideas from each other. It’s also how family keeps track of where we are.

I know my kids tell me only old people use Facebook now, but it sounds like holidays make you cranky, so you need to learn how to use Facebook or just scroll by.

Perhaps your crankiness could be solved by having a holiday. 😎😝

lebin · 09/10/2026 06:47

I hate it when people say they do it “for their own memories”. Your smartphone does that for you, there are apps you can use privately, you can send your family/ friends a photo or you can do it the old fashioned way and make a photo album.

People post on social media to show off. We are interested in other peoples lives and want ours to be interesting too!

sugarandcyanide · 09/10/2026 07:31

I like seeing holiday photos, I follow lots of travel pages so I even look at holiday photos from people I don't know.

I like the inspiration to find new places to go.

Enjoy your trip Sounds great. If I was FB friends with u I'd definitely be following thst

In fact thinking of it 95% of stuff I have on Facebook is travel related

Messymummy910 · 09/10/2026 07:58

I’m probably guilty of this but I do it more so it’s like a diary entry and I’ll enjoy the memories that pop up every year. You can just unfollow people on fb so you don’t see their updates unless you go looking for them. I’ve done that with plenty of people on my fb.

ALJT · 09/10/2026 08:23

You do realise people are the main character in their own lives. I’m all about doing what makes you happy and I’ll do what makes me happy. I can always scroll on by if I dont want to see. People are so bitter about everything nowadays.

dizzydizzydizzy · 09/10/2026 08:37

That’s what Facebook is for. I like seeing my friends’ holiday snaps. 53 photos may be a little OTT but you can just scroll past.

QuietComet · 09/10/2026 08:42

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 17:25

No it's slightly different. I'm talking about the people who obsessively post crap every day and blow by blow accounts of their holiday too.
It usually goes hand in hand. They can't stop home and away.
I'm at the airport and pictures
I'm in the plane picture in the plane
We've arrived and picture.
That's before you start the daily holiday posts.
Then on the way back the same. and the post now we are home.
Just go away and get a life thinking your so important.

If you can't go a day in your life without documenting everything then you need help.

You don't know who their intended audience is.

Maybe their mum and aunt want to see this stuff. Maybe they enjoy documenting their lives.

Either way, it's really not up to you to dictate how others use social media. And if you don't care enough about this person to be excited for them, then unfollow or unfriend.

QuietComet · 09/10/2026 08:44

Netcurtainnelly · 08/10/2026 17:35

"most of it is not remotely interesting'

To YOU.

It may be interesting to others.

Stop trying to be the main character in others lives.

rwalker · 09/10/2026 08:45

I’ve 2 friends like this the level of self indulgence amuses me
but we love our friends for who they are so it just an eye roll from me

midlifeattheoasis · 09/10/2026 08:55

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/10/2026 16:36

Because some of us are interested in other people. You can get the details of the hairdresser (although I'm sure there are other ways than via Instagram) and then never look at her posts again.

I didn’t explain myself very well. I understand businesses promoting themselves, it’s just people who constantly post their life I find alien really

MauveExpert · 09/10/2026 08:57

You may need to ask yourself why you are consuming others content whilst judging them in that way? It's quite a negative mindset

What else are you expecting people to post about? Showing others your holiday snaps is nothing new, social media just makes it a more passive way of doing that.

If you can't bear to see other people's content, social media may not be the place for you
