It’s hardly autumn surely, so you can’t be late. I think it would be weird in this warm weather

WTF are "Autumn decorations"????

Chewbecca · Yesterday 18:17

YAbvu to have autumn decorations.

bigplate · Yesterday 18:19

Autumn decorations 😂

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 18:21

Im going tomorrow to storage to dug them out (was going to do it a couple days ago. It may be warm early thus week but will drop to the teens by the end. I’m taking my DD back to uni next weekend and the Christmas decs will be up when she gets back so want her to see them .
As to those who are going ‘autumn decorations?!’, I mean I’ll replace the summer bunting across the glass wall overlooking the garden with a autumn foliage garland, I have a matching one for the mantle. I have an autumnal wreath for the door and in October will get some pumpkins (that I’ll carve for Halloween) to put on the front steps. Looks lovely and with candles added to the mantle very cosy.

Tat from The Range or B&M

Future landfill.

Castletickedoff · Yesterday 18:24

Cue the sanctimonious comments from people who know perfectly well what autumn decor is 🙄
I haven’t yet OP, probably will the last week of September.

I just have a few pumpkin candles leftover from last year I’ll be bringing back out and some cosy throws with autumn designs on. It doesn’t have to be extravagant and new items each year for landfill as no doubt some horrified posters will be coming on here to say next!

It's not warm everywhere in the UK.

OP if your Autumn decorations give you a bit of joy then put them out when you want to.

A lot of mumsnetters are complete killjoys around seasonal decor apart from Christmas and even then you must adhere to 'the rules' 😂

The astronomical calendar doesn't start till 23 Sep, so I'd wait till to least then.
What exactly do you want to put up OP? Do you mean outside the house or inside? 🤷‍♀️

We have Autumn decorations and ICNGAFF what you or anyone else thinks. 😁

We haven't put ours up yet, I think maybe mid to late September or beginning of October.

hotmumshit · Yesterday 18:26

Ofc yanbu! 🥰🍂

BooksandSlippers · Yesterday 18:27

Put them up when you wish to, the weather is definitely starting to turn. You're early though, not late.

Abouteffingtime · Yesterday 18:27

I dont think its late is it? I put autumn bedding on last week

As for landfill 'tat' not that either. Mosyly woiden decorations, dried flower/foliage, felted etc that I have either made or bought from crafters, and had for over a decade....

It just seems very American / Instagram / Consumer culture. In a depressing way.

RelievedNoYouTubeMum · Yesterday 18:28

I have changed my rug for the orange/brown one swapped my throws and cushion covers for my burnt orange ones and I have been using my fairy light over the fireplace.

i prefer the cost feel

Keymoment · Yesterday 18:28

Around the 22nd September is the start of autumn, I thought.

mopandsmiff · Yesterday 18:31

Decorations plural is a bit strong for me, but I do have a seasonal garland on the landing windowsill.
Winter/ Christmas is Dec-Feb,
Spring is March-May,
Summer June-August
Autumn Sept-Nov

The Autumn ones never go up 1st Sept though because it often still feels like summer! So your timing feels perfect to me!

Kitchenbattle · Yesterday 18:31

I don’t put too much around to be honest. Just these and then an autumn wreath (which I have ordered and is en route) and then I top it up with a more Halloween feel in late Oct

Well I don’t have instagram and my mum use to decorate the house when I was younger (I’m 41 now) so it’s not a new thing tbh…

That's because it is still summer on 1st September! I do know what you mean though.

Yeah mine is definitely not tat. I buy simple nice things that I can use over and over.

I've never had autumn decorations. Maybe something autumnal in a vase from the garden but that's about it. Is this a newish thing?

MajorSamanthaCarter · Yesterday 18:39

I have my handmade, by me, pumpkins out, I made them from yarn that was leftover from other projects. No tat, no future landfill just something to inject a bit joy into my least favourite time of year 🤷‍♀️

squashyhat · Yesterday 18:46

I'm going to leave it until the first firing of the woodburner (cue even more MN frothing) Grin
