AIBU to put out my autumn decorations now?

I think I’ll put out my autumn decorations! Has anyone put there’s out yet (for those of you that do!) I’m late I know but I just didn’t feel autumny until this weekend 🤣

I'm just appalled OP isn't painting her front door afresh for each season like I saw on Instagram.

I’ve been using the same Christmas decorations since the 90s. It’s just tacky and classless. Do you need pumpkins to remind you it’s September?! Really?!

I’m sure you’ve put plenty in landfill in your time.

OP, Autumn is my favourite season and we always decorate the house for it. We did it over the weekend and it looks lovely.

I try to live in tune with the seasons, making the most of a connection with Earth, following the Wheel of The Year. I know that makes me sounds wanky on MN these days but I really don't care.
My decorations are very much based on the Nature Table from my infants school when we were encouraged to bring in things we found or that grew in the garden. I've never really stopped doing this!
20 years ago a dear friend bought us beautiful hand sewn pumpkins and it's a joy to bring them out each year.
It has felt Autumnal here in South Wales for a few weeks now and I've needed a blanket across my lap on the last few evenings.

I might treat myself to a current copy of Country Living, I'm sure the items recommended therein will meet the criteria of those who would never be seen in Home Bargains!

Me too. 😘 I still have the summery one with pink and lilac flowers, but it just says 'welcome' on it, not anything to do with summer. I will be putting the Autumn wreath on the front door around 24 Sept, (with the rest of the autumn decor,) and a smaller one on the side door.

It’s been new since the shops realised that they could import vast amounts of autumnal-coloured tat from China, and people would be keen to buy it.

My inner snob feels this is tacky. Whilst I will
never do autumn decorations, I reckon some tasteful examples must exist. I will go google.

Hmm, back from a brief google. The autumn decor images are all a bit too ‘country cottage’ and twee for me. Each to their own, as they say.

What are you going on about? Which posters do you think were drunk in the middle of the night and what would make you think they were drunk?

I can see several comments around midnight, including OP, none of which appeared to be written by a drunk person. That's not the middle of the night though, presumably they were just about to go to bed.
There were a couple of posts about 4 and 5 am but again, did not appear to be drunk.

I love Autumn too, I've got a wreath for the front door and some apple and cinnamon candles for the evening...I love all the seasons though.

I have a small collection of Autumn decorations too, OP. I have a wreath and a pumpkin garland to drape over the mantlepiece. We re-use the same ones every year.

On Halloween, we like to carve a pumpkin to display in the window for the Trick o Treaters. 😊

We put our autumn decorations up yesterday and the house looks so welcoming. I bloody love Autumn! We will add to the decorations for Halloween. 🎃 🍂

I decorate for autumn. Decorations are wooden or actually gleaned from the countryside, you know acorns, conkers and fir cones I find on a walk and throw in a bowl, sometimes chuck some colourful leaves in there as well.

I'd rather be a tacky, pony tail sporting, Primark shopping povvo than a prick who gets pleasure from being insulting to strangers online. I'd even rather be .... gasp ... American.

When I lived and worked in New England, I actually really came to love the way every season and event was seen as something to celebrate. Yes, there's awful consumerism in there too, but honestly I found it joyful in lots of ways. You'd be surprised how much fun you can have when you're not being a nasty, judgy cow looking down your nose at someone else's pine cones or pretending you couldn't possibly work out what the words 'Autumn' and 'decorations' might mean when placed next to each other.

I wasn't going to add anything to ours this year, but I can feel a trip to B&M coming on now, I've been inspired.

My Dh actually requested I put ours up yesterday. I am going to do it on Wednesday .

Well well. You live and learn. I mean, each to their own, but I had never heard of this as a 'thing'. As IAmEarthyMama said above, there are festivals of the year, and yes, I have decorated the altar for the festivals, but then moved the tributes , decor and libation outdoors, but that is just for the festival. I can see that it seems as if it may come from Germany originally, which would be why it is totally normal for some and anathema for others. Isn't culture interesting. Yes, it does sound as though there is some commercial manipulation going on as well, but if most are saying that they avoid that, use natural or handmade stuff, and it doesn't bother anyone, then have at it!

I shall not be joining in until mainly Calan Gaeaf however, with a small altar nod at the equinox. I also wonder who does buy the plastic tat that everyone is mentioning too! Clearly not Mumsnetters by this sample.

Me! I buy the plastic autumn landfill tat! Not very much mind you and I’ve kept it out of landfill for years so I suppose it’s just tat for now.
I did treat myself to some new burnt orange tapered candles from Primark this year, because I’m the uneducated spawn of the devil apparently but ho hum, they look nice so… 🖕🏻🍂🎃🕯️

@MagratsDanglyCharms21 my ex neighbour spent many years in Germany and indoctrinated me into the seasonal decorating. My DD's used to love popping next door over Christmas - her house was so beautiful and nothing tacky she has exceptional taste. Halloween was also sublime.

"Ex" as we've both moved away from where we used to live. Loved going round the garden centres together looking for stuff. Must give her a call
