AIBU to put out my autumn decorations now?

I think I’ll put out my autumn decorations! Has anyone put there’s out yet (for those of you that do!) I’m late I know but I just didn’t feel autumny until this weekend 🤣

Oh no hun! I’ve already been down to B&Ms and Home Bargains and bought up the orange plastic wreath and the pumpkin spiced candles

ive bought some nice fluffy throws and it’s all cosy indoors now

oooh and now the pumpkin spiced lattes are back in costas

I’d rather be called bitchy than be the type of person who buys b&m tat

It’s funny when people go on about tat and consumerism but don’t see how they have also been caught up in consumerism and will have added to landfill themselves.

I’m sorry but having autumn decorations just feels like home bargains/the range have won…. Who needs them? Just buy some lovely candles and wait for Xmas itll

Yes that's me. Midnight isn't "the middle of the night", it's a normal bedtime, I like to have a quick scroll before reading my book, as I'm sure many people do.

As for being drunk, well that's quite funny, as I'm teetotal.

You can call me a bellend if you want but it doesn't affect me or change my opinion about people who succumb to consumerism and buy cheap tat from cheap shops.

When people are describing handmade decorations, adding a few throws and reusing things for years, the sneering about "consumerism" and "tat" is truly exposed for what it is, ie a misjudged attempt to assert social class and intellectual status.

If you buy cheap shit, that’s on you. My mom still has fall decorations from when I was a kid and I’m 37, and mine certainly isn’t cheap or “tat.” Calling all seasonal décor disposable junk just because you personally buy bargain-bin crap is not the devastating cultural critique you think it is.

Other than Christmas, the trend for seasonal decor is a pointless waste of money of, and let’s face it, 9 times out of 10 it is cheap tat.

Given the media warnings of the impending apocalyse (or maybe a crap winter), having a few extra candles around is just practical innit! If the power goes out, nobody is going to say, "I refuse to have the room lit by those autumnal candles!" Blow them out and let me sit in darkness!"

We’ve had autumn decorations for years. I bought them in America (we are American British family) before my oldest was born. He’s an adult now. I’ve added some home knit pumpkins over the years and have some candles I bring out each year too.
I also have an autumn wreath. Then I add home grown gourds and pumpkins. None of this will be done until closer to end of September and will be added gradually I’d imagine. I enjoy changing the home for autumn.

I kept a pumpkin in my kitchen once. It wasn't decoration; I bought it to make a pumpkin pie. However, I'd never made a pumpkin pie so I kept putting it off. It turns out, pumpkins are a 'high risk' item. I came down one morning to find it had exploded all over my kitchen. I shit you not. Pumpkin innards draping off all surfaces, like bloody intestines. It would have been seasonal but it was well past Hallow'een / Samhain / Calan Gaeaf by that point. Never again.

St Eval have brought out a new candle called sacred forest I am dying to try. It was 24 degrees here at 10pm so I might have to wait a week or two. We have turned on the twinkle lights though.

God people are bloody miserable. I suppose they decorate their homes only with handwoven hemp curtains made by monks in the early 1800s and consider throw pillows frivolous.

We've bought some autumnal candles and DD6 and I will start making pretty autumn things over the next few weeks. And I will really horrify the puritans now- I've made her a Boo Basket full of books, craft activities and cosy PJs. Sorry not sorry.

My autumn switchover usually happens between end of September and end of October - depends on when I can be arsed!

Two lots of curtains in living room and one lot in my bedroom get swapped over - duck egg blue for spring/summer, red and cream for autumn/winter. And same for cushions in living room. My bedding tends to change colour as well. Plus a garland over my inglenook fireplace goes from spring flowers to autumn leaves.

It’s an easy way to switch up the feel of the room without to much effort. Same curtains, cushion covers, garlands used for years here.

And not sure why people are being so judgy about celebrating the change of seasons - it’s woven through our history that seasonal changes were celebrated.
