AIBU to put out my autumn decorations now?

I think I’ll put out my autumn decorations! Has anyone put there’s out yet (for those of you that do!) I’m late I know but I just didn’t feel autumny until this weekend 🤣

Just because some people can’t afford decor sourced from one’s off grid holiday to the lower Transvaal , hand fashioned by local artisans , doesn’t mean there’s any need to come on here and indulge in some uttterly cunty posts . If it makes them happy , then have at it. There’s little enough joy in this world as it is , so if a few candles , a wreath and some throws which are used year on year , bring a smile , then crack on .

Read that sentence again. It’s just the passage of time. You don’t need decorations.

I agree too. There are some horribly sad sounding, not nice, individuals on this thread - and they’re not the ones decorating for autumn!

I don’t especially decorate for autumn, but I like autumnal colours so have a lot of them in my house already, it goes well with the old house and exposed beams etc. I can’t get over excited about someone putting a few decorations up. I’d rather live next door to them than someone miserable sod who is judging people on what they wear/where they shop and sneering.

As for the is it autumn debate - I like to hang onto summer as long as possible because I work outside, so try to class September as summer. But this summer the leaves have turned early because of the hot summer, and where I live it’s been pretty cold and rainy for the last couple of weeks (although yesterday was glorious) and has really started to feel like summer has gone. We are on a small holding and are rushing to get everything repaired, creosoted and ready for winter.

Some of the comments are horrible, but they also miss the point.

I think where you see ‘happiness’ others are seeing conformity (with social media trends), FOMO and the possible need for validation or attention. Of course, it’s not marketed like this on social media - the trends are sold as ‘happiness’ .

But that happiness is a cynically manipulated dopamine induced form of happiness that coincidentally makes people like Zuckerberg stinking rich and irresponsibly powerful.

On the one end you have benign ‘autumn decorations’, and on the other end control, manipulation, and political influence that’s affecting the whole world in a horrible way.

I wish we wouldn’t just nod-along as if the two things are unrelated and there isn’t something very dark and unhealthy about it.

But it doesn’t matter if they want some, does it?!! I put plants in my garden for summer - is that wrong? That’s just a season too..

Yeah get them out and enjoy. I feel autumnal already, definitely doesn’t still feel like summer where I live.

I'm knocking on 70 too and I've always decorated for the season - at the moment pinecone garlands, autumnal branches, bunches of wheat ,knitted pumpkins and handmade bunting. Gourds and squashes when the time comes and lots of fairy lights & candles, it's lovely.
I'm going to try and make a corn dolly next

“Type”?… there’s nothing wrong with a little decor.

A few people around my area have, but I haven't yet. It's still sunny and warm here - was 23-24C yesterday and humid, all my flowers are still blooming (4 or 5 sunflowers haven't even come out yet, gonna be another few days I think,) and I go on holiday in less than 2 weeks, so I am not in Autumn deco mood at all!

I will do it before we go away though. Going on 26 Sept, and coming back 1st Oct, so I will very likely do it around 24th Sept. It's not Autumn for me until the equinox anyway.

It’s funny I have my hair in a slick back low ponytail today, however, I am wearing a pair of straight Levi’s, a Breton top, a black blazer and black loafers…and I’m paid very well!

I’d rather be a tacky American than a drunk middle class English snob, posting on MN in the middle of the night. Many of these comments are utterly disgraceful.

I think the “type” comment was a bit harsh but a lot of the people condemning that poster are also keen to point out that they don’t buy tat and their decorations are all family heirlooms, collected from nature etc. Someone has to be buying it!

I tend to have conkers lying around the place but that is mainly because I like them and can't not pick some up if I find them....

They are no good for discouraging spiders though unless you chuck them at them, they happily web over conkers if you let them.

Landfill tat and consumerism isn’t decor.

@imanastronaut ok…do you not decorate your house at all? It must be lovely to be able to absolve yourself of any contribution towards landfill in this world (nigh on impossible I would say though…)

We put ours up on Saturday. My husband decorated outside and I did inside. I love Autumn.
