AIBU to put out my autumn decorations now?

I think I’ll put out my autumn decorations! Has anyone put there’s out yet (for those of you that do!) I’m late I know but I just didn’t feel autumny until this weekend 🤣

Preferably coloured plastic shite.

Next week mine will go out. Just a few bits to brighten up the dark nights drawing in, but nothing that resembles anything to do with Halloween.

Middle of September is a perfectly acceptable time to set out fall decorations. I'm already getting my Halloween decorations ready but I've been told that I have to wait until October because my family are no fun killjoys.

Well I'm knocking on 70 and have never, EVER, seen any "Autumn Decorations" nor have I ever heard family, friends, colleagues or anyone refer to putting some up!

It does sound like an American Import. Fuck that.

Quite. Never known anyone do this in real life, the only place I've seen it mentioned was about a week ago on here.

I think it must be a certain demographic that does it.

It wouldn't be bad if they were decorating using locally sourced real foliage, flowers and fruit, at least those could be composted afterwards. But that doesn't seem to be what they do.

And what demographic would that be?

Yeah I am, and what's the problem? Is there something wrong with having fun and adding color to your day?

Working class, not well educated, low cultural capital, relatively low pay, shops at Primark, B&M etc, likes to buy tat to get the dopamine hit, changes decor frequently and succumbs to all the latest trends flogged on social media, probably wears lots of make up, scrapes their hair back into a ponytail, wears those nude coloured up the bum leggings for everyday wear, that type of person.

I couldn’t be bothered last year and we all ended up missing the pre Halloween transition and taking the autumn inside. I think I’ll mark the changing season again this year -I like to get creative and mix in seed heads and real dried sycamore leaves, hazelnuts and branches. Thanks for reminding me OP! I think it’s more of an elemental ritual than a US import ( that never crossed my mind & been doing it for donkeys) contrary to the snobbery in the responses to OP.

Do it. I love a bit of seasonal decor to brighten the place up. I went to my local Michael's today (craft store). They had the most amazing Halloween trees, yep full on black trees with Halloween decorations. I really want one but DH said no :( So pumpkins and candles it is. 🎃

To be fair, this post doesn't exactly show your 'well educated' side.

I'm afraid I shop at Primark on occasion, finding the things I choose to be of a decent, lasting quality and I do put my hair in a ponytail at times.

Interestingly, seasonal decorating in Germany is very traditional and has been for generations. My mother has a small box for Easter/Autumn from when they lived there which still comes out year after year.

I can't stand the colour orange so don't do Autumnal decorating, though the flames of the log burner will look very cosy so that will do for me.

i put mine out yesterday as it was cold and o wanted some extra cosiness i have an autumn leaf foliage garland that goes over my mantle with some warm fairy lights, and some wraught iron pumpkins that go in my fireplace with some orange dried flowers. they swap out some summer candles and plants. The fun sponges can sue me - i like having some seasonal decor in my front room (and have had the same stuff for years so am not "adding to landfill").

Go for it. Switched to my autumn wreath last week. It isn’t landfill tat either, I have a wreath per season and use them each year. Ditto Halloween, Christmas and Easter decor.

It’s 25c degree here today, so not quite yet! Don’t see much of that stuff around here though until Halloween.
