AIBU to put out my autumn decorations now?

I think I’ll put out my autumn decorations! Has anyone put there’s out yet (for those of you that do!) I’m late I know but I just didn’t feel autumny until this weekend 🤣

Steady on, last night of the proms was only yesterday! It's a kind of unofficial transition from summer into (crappy) autumn in our house.

What is the proms?

I have an autumn leaf garland that my crafty MIL made, which we put on the fireplace and I put it up the other day because we’re going through the garage ahead of having some work done and I came across it. I’ve had candles lit the last few evenings but they’re either plain or a more summery fragrance - I can’t use anything too scented as it gives me a headache but if I come across anything more autumnal/ wintery that isn’t too strong I’ll probably swap those in as the current ones run out.

I’ve also got a ceramic toadstool and pumpkin that to be honest they sit on the bookshelf all year but I might push them to a slightly more prominent position now! And when I get flowers for the dining room I’ll probably go for a more seasonal type too.

We’ll put more up in October in the run up to Halloween and we will buy and carve pumpkins.

I actually still have a spring wreath on the door (MIL again) we put up at Easter and it’s so pretty I haven’t wanted to take it down but I probably should.

I like decorating for the different events and seasons, it makes me feel cheerful and DD loves it, so I really don’t care what others think. I don’t post pictures on social media of our home, and I definitely don’t think what we do is particularly instagram worthy but we like it. We’ve reused the same stuff since DD was tiny. I don’t agree with a massive home bargains haul, with themed pyjamas to match, every time the month changes just for the sake of it, but I think it’s fine to have a few special things that you reuse if they add to your enjoyment of your home.

Our fresh log order should arrive this week, I can't wait to get ours lit.

I do miss a fire at this time of year. We have none. I don’t miss cleaning it out though!

Mine are out. Definitely feeling autumnal. Temperature has dropped.

Wtaf are autumn decorations. Just weird

A series of classical (largely) musical concerts held every summer at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Really varied programmes. If you're in London over the summer they are good fun. You get hardcore 'prommers' who are audience members who queue (or these days buy online) for cheap standing tickets and are quite vocal.

It culminates in the Last Night where a professional singers sings Rule Britannia amongst other things, and the prommers dance along. If you search on YouTube for Susan Bullock's Rule Brittania performance where she's dressed in an armour thing that will give you an idea.

I bought a small glass pumpkin from Tesco today and I think it’s very cute, I might buy another one. I’ve also got my candle warmer on and a new candle going so I’m feeling autumnal! It has been quite warm here in the highlands the last few days but it’s to get colder again so I’m not worried about it being too early.

I can definitely think of weirder things…🤣

Autumn decorations? What in the B&M Home Bargains Pumpkin spice plastic hell is this then?

It’s funny that those of you who are aghast at the idea of autumn decorations se to know where to buy some…although I don’t have a b&m here (I’m not in England)

‘Autumn decorations’?!

Genuinely never heard of autumn decorations in a 'home' sense. I mean I've created shop windows with an autumn theme, but thats it. I am in my 50s. Is it a newer thing that has passed me by? Not even being facetious here.... genuinely mystified!

As far as I’m concerned:

Autumn starts at the beginning of August-you can see it in the trees and the harvests.

Winter starts at the beginning of November.

Spring starts at the beginning of February with the first crocuses and bulb shoots.

Summer starts, traditionally, on May Day.

it’s the equinox in a weeks time!
