To think fat women look better in bikinis than one pieces

Before anyone jumps on me, of course people can wear what they want and feel most comfortable in...

But ive just returned from holiday and I did think whilst lying on the beach and round the pool how much better larger women look in bikini rather than one piece costumes. I think maybe it's just a confidence thing and those who exude confidence rather than self consciousness look better overall.

But regardless of that, I just think visually they actually look better...not that anyone owes attractiveness to others obviously

How do you know that they looked better in a bikini? Did you see each person in both types of costume. It could just be that the women wearing bikinis had better figures.

KilkennyCats · 31/08/2026 11:51

Wearing a bikini with confidence doesn’t automatically make you look good in it, I’m afraid.

fumingrightnow1 · 31/08/2026 11:51

I don't know the majority of my fat is on my stomach so I don't think a bikini would do me any favours. I usually wear a tankini

mondaytosunday · 31/08/2026 11:51

No I don’t agree. A good supportive one piece that fits well looks great no matter what the size. I’m unsure if bikinis can do what’s needed. I’m very overweight myself, and would not subject anyone to my stomach.

tilypu · 31/08/2026 11:51

Why are you studying fat women on beaches?

Octavia64 · 31/08/2026 11:52

No

nonono.

I am a fat woman

i have tried on many, many bikinis. They do not look better.

MajorSamanthaCarter · 31/08/2026 11:53

I'm sure 'fat' women everywhere thank you for your opinion on how they look 🙄

SaffronsMadAboutMe · 31/08/2026 11:53

I couldn't disagree more.

What's your agenda here OP?

Couldn't be more grateful! Shame fat men aren't getting insight on swim shorts Vs budgie smugglers.

Why are you studying fat women on beaches?

An excellent question. I suspect OP’s preferred beachwear is judgey pants.

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 31/08/2026 11:56

Honestly OP I'm amazed that this is what was occupying your mind whilst lying on a beach on holiday! You sound as though you must have been absolutely bored stiff if you couldn't find something more enjoyable to think about.

IronEverything · 31/08/2026 11:56

I think everyone looks better in a one piece to be honest.

Kittybelle123 · 31/08/2026 11:56

Just back from holiday. I’m bigger now than I have ever been in my life (thank you menopause) and it took everything for me to wear a one piece costume and go for a swim, which I love. I constantly felt as though people were looking at and judging me; DH and (adult) DDs assured me that this was not the case and now I see this - maybe I was right all along.

ExOptimist · 31/08/2026 11:57

I'm fat and definitely do not look better in a bikini. No one wants to see my enormous stomach flopping around. I wear a black swim dress with knee length swim leggings underneath, that covers the worst and enables me to have the confidence to swim and go on the beach in public.

Went to the swimming pool last week and saw a presumably Muslim woman in a swim tunic and long leggings, thought I might get one( not Muslim).

5128gap · 31/08/2026 11:58

Don't be so silly. 'Fat women' is highly subjective and could include anyone from overweight to morbidly obese with any type of body shape and multiple variations in height, tone and skin texture. I think its probably better that women decide for themselves what they look and feel best in (if they care) rather than trying to offer your aesthetic insight when you haven't even noticed that 'fat women' don't all look the same.

Justaquestionplease · 31/08/2026 11:58

Fwiw I'm woman and I've been every size from an 8-20. My post is more about fashion than body shaming. In fact it's the opposite

Care less.

You're never going to see those people again, and the second you're out of their sight, none of them are ever going to think about you again.

Plus, for every one person who might be judging you, there were multiple others applauding your confidence and WISHING they were brave enough to wear a swimsuit & enjoy the pool, but they feel so crap about their own bodies they weren't.

Enjoy living your life!

Good for you for going swimming. Good for your supportive family.
Please be assured OP is the exception not the norm.

Fashion isn't binary, it's very much subjective so what you think "looks good" is very much different to what others think.

Well what I'm saying is the opposite isnt it...you would have probably felt way more self conscious in a bikini, but actually I think not giving a fuck looks better than trying to conceal yourself

Have also been a variety of weights- currently trying to reduce- and have always preferred a one piece particularly now they hold my middle in. It's up to an individual but I personally think one pieces are better than bikinis or tankinis for a swim for everyone on practical grounds.

Yello24 · 31/08/2026 12:02

I’m a bit fat and usually wear a one piece. Have massive boobs so have costumes with those foam things that give a bit of shape and support. And my costumes are ruched.
Anyway I decided the same thing. Nobody cares what I look like and was so fed up of my thick fabric and foam pads taking forever to dry so I was soggy for hours after swimming.
Now looking for something like a tankini with shorts. So I don’t have to keep shaving my bikini line and pulling the pants out of my arse crack. I don’t know about bikinis looking better. But practicality should be number 1!

Indeed and I'm giving my opinion on it and asking others

Your dh and dd are right the majority of people myself included are so self involved they really aren't paying attention to others

MaryBeardsShoes · 31/08/2026 12:02

Does anyone look good in a one piece?? Tanking/bikini all the way!
