To think fat women look better in bikinis than one pieces

Before anyone jumps on me, of course people can wear what they want and feel most comfortable in...

But ive just returned from holiday and I did think whilst lying on the beach and round the pool how much better larger women look in bikini rather than one piece costumes. I think maybe it's just a confidence thing and those who exude confidence rather than self consciousness look better overall.

But regardless of that, I just think visually they actually look better...not that anyone owes attractiveness to others obviously

This is very true in Eastern Europe. Only older women (65 plus wear one pieces).

I’m plus size and pear shaped. I actually looked better in a short bottom style bikini, and I rock it. Swimsuits do suit my shape and flatten my chest!

Sorry, when I was overweight I looked much better in a bikini for one reason - underwired bikini top. All the one pieces didn't have bust support and I just looked dreadful as have a large chest. Swimming costumes just used to squash my boobs towards my tummy making me this round object! I'd wear a bikini with short style bottoms.
So yes, I do think a well-fitting and supportive bikini looks better, at least it did on me.

I’ve now lost two stone but even at my heaviest - 12 stone 5 at 5 ft 2 I wore a bikini on a beach holiday. More comfortable and it looked fine. But then I’m not lacking in confidence.

Agree with @hellswelshy - if you feel better in the bikini, wear the bikini!

Also think that bikinis suit pear shapes much better than one-pieces - I have a big bum and whopping thighs, but a small waist and flat(ish) stomach. Bikinis look much better on me...

I think confidence comes from wearing what you like and feel comfortable in. Not a specific type of clothing.

howver when I was larger I looked better in a bikini , as a swim suit made me look a bit like a stuffed sausage, bizzarely now I’m slim and athletic build I look more stylish in a swimsuit, but a very nice elegant one in paler colours.

for example I have this Reiss one. I’d have looked terrible in it at a size 16/18, but it looks lovely at an 8, howver that’s my body, plenty of size 16/18 women would look great in it, I’m just not one of them, the pale stomach area would have made me personally look larger, so there is no rule, it depends on the individual and their own tastes,

I can partially agree. Depends on body, but very very slim, straight up and washboard stomach just doesnt look as good in a bikini as a curvy lady. In my opinion.

I am afraid I don’t agree. In terms of looking stylish a one piece would suit a bigger woman. Bikini for smaller shapes.

Yeah, and rightly self conscious too, it would seem, because people like you are staring at women and judging them and what they’re wearing and then making your own decision about what they should wear and what would look better to your eyes on them.

As for the bs about this being a post about “fashion” and not what fat women should be wearing on holiday, if you actually believe that and think everyone else believes it then you’re a few brain cells shorter than you even first appeared. If you were talking about fashion then you’d be talking about bikinis vs one pieces, not bikinis vs one pieces just on fat women. Not walking around having a good stare and adding to your little tally.

I disagree Op. And, FWIW, I’m a fat woman with big breasts. Bikini tops are generally uncomfortable, whereas a supportive one piece can feel as though I’m not wearing anything. Comfort, confidence and style over fashion for me.

My opinion is women should be able to wear what they want on the beach; comfort and practicality often dictate what they feel is best for them.

YABU I think women of all sizes should wear what they are comfortable in. That would be a structured one piece for me if I ever swim again.

Women are constantly told on here to wear what they like on the beach/by the pool. Nobody’s looking. Well apparently they are. What a surprise.

Sounds like you had an exciting holiday.

Not really interested in what other people look 'better' in. People should wear what makes them feel good and not worry about what other people are thinking of them or their outfit choices.

From a fashion perspective, I think no swimwear looks more chic than a well cut one piece swimsuit in a good fabric in the right colour for the wearer.

100% disagree. And I think the vast majority of women who are overweight will agree too. I am 2-3 stone overweight and wouldn't be seen dead in a bikini.

Whilst it’s not on to dictate what someone should or shouldn’t wear, I do think the op has a point. Up until this year, I always wore a one piece. I stopped wearing a bikini when I put on weight and became too fat. I’m fatter than ever now and bought 2 bikinis for my holiday.
I can buy different size tops to bottoms. I have big boobs and bought underwired bea tops in a specific bra size. I need smaller bottoms. Whilst I don’t have a flat stomach, at least the bottoms and top fit.
As for a one piece, I struggle. I need a supportive top but a lot of the time getting something to fit on top results in too much fabric around my backside.
Getting a good fit around my bum results in too little fabric on top and just drags my breasts down.
I don’t suit tankinis. They highlight my widest part.
Anyway I think women’s swimwear is far too revealing. Men can get away with long, baggy shirts yet women’s swimwear is very tight and revealing.
