Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

You haven’t put any information about what they would replace it with, so you’ve given half a story. They would instead have a Health security allowance but only the ‘severe, enduring and high-risk cases’ would receive cash support. So those that absolutely need it will get financial support. Which is how it should be.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/08/2026 09:29

I'm glad they have announced this because it might make some of their supporters stop and think as it will apply to a lot of them.

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 16/08/2026 09:30

Clacton has one of the highest rates of PIP claimants in the country, at 18% of working adults.

I wonder if the people who vote for Farage realise it’s them that will suffer financially? Maybe they all think their health is bad enough that they’ll qualify for the new scheme but the whole point of it is to reduce the number of people being supported so the likelihood is a good proportion of them would lose out.

Yeah and we all know what that means. It's just an excuse to pull the rug out from ppl who are struggling. It is such hypocrisy. Ppl allegedly taking millions for themselves in bungs while wishing to stop meagre amounts to support the most vulnerable. And all disguised as sensible fair policies . You must think we all came down in the last rain shower. And I cant imagine any of them wanting to put in the hard yards if they got into office. They'd all be wanting to swan off to other places securing deals that would make life even easier for billionaires while letting everybody else starve. Yuck.

Pip is a benefit that allows disabled people to keep working.

So much misinformation about this.

There are thousands of people who can work part time but not full time with chronic illness/disability. PIP helps them get to work with taxis or helps with mobility schemes to get them a car. Otherwise people would be stuck at home.

Reform are also the ones wanting everyone at the office and not working remotely.... So I don't know how this will solve any sort of benefits bill issue. They'll just remove all the ways disabled people currently earn a living!

But Mumsnet is awful about disabled people so I don't expect much uproar here.

A bit like turkeys voting for Christmas, I guess.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 16/08/2026 09:43

I think they've shot themselves in the foot politically with people who vote for them. At least they've been honest, I guess, that they are going to be even nastier than the Nasty Party. Just hope the turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

It is no coincidence that Reform waited until the by-election was over to announce this.

Yep. There is a lot if hate for disabled people on here. There will be posters along soon to tell whopping lies about their neighbour's brother's son who climbs Mount Everest every morning then drives home in his "mobility" car.

probablyamunreasonable · 16/08/2026 09:48

I think it does need to be reformed somehow. Disabled people of course need to be supported.

But as someone who struggles with mental health, I think with some cases and ‘conditions’ it would be better to focus on putting more money into support.

Somersetbaker · 16/08/2026 09:48

Interesting that Reform wants everybody back in the office, does that mean Farage might actually turn up at Westminster and vote, or be in his constituency office ever. No of course it doesn't he's even lazier than Johnson.

Yes .but some of them dont seem to be able to join the dots, which is why ppl who get what Reform is about and dont like it should start shouting from the roof tops. Middle classes get off your bums and start telling it like it is ....coz Nige and Co aren't big buddies of yours either.

Hopefully the majority of their supporters will begin to see them for what they really are. A bunch of people doing their utmost to cause division, and hate against vulnerable groups of people, whilst making money, hand over fist, for themselves, and theirs. They don't give a fig about poor people, and their issues.

Yep and he tells all and sundry about it too.

ScholesPanda · 16/08/2026 09:52

PIP is an expensive benefit, but it also allows a lot of people to work who otherwise couldn't, and allows others to have a life and consume who otherwise couldn't.

I think the Reform replacement is yet to be fleshed out, so it's hard to judge.

We have an ageing population- when Tony Blair came to power the average was 36.9. it is now 40.6. Our population and workforce are ageing, older people suffer more ill health, we need more support for the old to stay in the workforce. If we cut immigration (rightly or wrongly) our population will age further. I wonder how many people think these changes will only effect the feckless young? Easy to propose these things when it sounds like it will only effect others, but once people find it effects them personally they might change their mind.

yellowspanner · 16/08/2026 09:53

This is a realistic solution to a benefits bill that is crippling this country. Good for Robert Jenrick. I hope they get in and this gets implemented.

The majority of Labour seats at risk from Reform have the highest rates of people living on disability benefits.

I'd love to think you were right - but their supporters are already ignoring things like ending the NHS!

KnittingBasket · 16/08/2026 09:57

How coincidental that they've announced this highly distracting topic right now.
Days after these headlines "Parliamentary investigation resumes into Farage hours after he wins Clacton by-election".

Parliamentary investigation resumes into Farage hours after he wins Clacton by-election

The Reform UK leader won the contest, which was boycotted by major political parties, but didn't attend the declaration.

20thCenturyFecks · 16/08/2026 09:58

Given that the policy will affect a good proportion of their target demographic I wouldn't worry too much. It's also a while til the next election.

I'll tell you why....because they are not interested in getting disabled ppl in to work. They dont care if disabled ppl just disappear. That's what ppl dont get. ThEY DONT CARE. They dont give a stuff about Britain. It's just part of the manipulation. Do you thonk any of them want a pint down the local with the working man. Do me a favour. They probably all go home and have a long shower after having been within a mile of a working person. Or lie down in a darkened room for days to recover. People need to wake up to what they are really sbout.

The benefits bill is not "crippling" the UK. This is utterly baseless, ideologically motivated shite, designed to pander to lowest common denominator vindictiveness, and people too bloody stupid to realise they are swallowing down nonsense.
