Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

I've not heard that one but there seem to be quite a few of them driving Beemers
around here Those claiming 'enhanced' level of Motability Benefit can exchange it for a Motability car worth 12 times the amount of the benefit. The most expensive cars available for drivers are on the market for up to £54,000.

They don't "exchange it for a car worth 12 times the amount of the benefit". They use it to lease one for three years. The more expensive cars require a large deposit.

There is no such thing as "enhanced Motability benefit".

How do you know the benefit status of the people driving "Beemers"?

Fiction needs to convince the reader to suspend disbelief. Big fat fucking fail for you. 0/10

The welfare bill needs to be addressed. The town i live in has generations of benefit claimants who have never worked and have no intention of ever doing so. They are not disabled, just bone idle. Pumping out kids every year so to keep the cycle running.
Community service is the key, I believe. People should earn their benefits, clearing streets of litter, cleaning graffiti, etc.
I know this has been brought up several times over the years but mostly shelved because of the yuman rites of these dossers to be able to sit on their arses smoking weed all day courtesy of the dwindling bunch of taxpayers who fund them all

I'll get my coat.....

How do you suggest my son ‘earns’ his benefit then? Whilst he is an adult, he can’t walk or talk, uses oxygen, is tube feed, has daily seizures, doubly incontinent…shall I go on?

No
Those that get HRM get £80 / week which they can exchange for a car on the mobility scheme
For a high value car they will have to pay a huge deposit out of their own pocket.

"the dwindling bunch of taxpayers who fund them all"

The total number of income tax payers in the UK has increased significantly over the last 10 years, rising from roughly 31 million mid-decade to approximately 36.7 million by the 2023/24 tax year

Starpaper · 16/08/2026 10:13

winter8090 · 16/08/2026 10:09

Too many people are claiming disability benefits when they could be working. The stories about mobility paying for luxury cars understandably aggravates those who work hard and pay high taxes.
Also people with school age children claiming universal credit and working part time not increasing hours because they lose credit and therefore there is no incentive. The system needs reformed whilst protecting our most vulnerable.

I beleive this is who reform wil go after.

No they are saying all employers will be responsible for the first two years of sick pay so that’s you too if you go off sick. Everybody else who has the misfortune of ever being ill or need to be off work will be forever penalised as no company will want you due to added risk of bills for them.

Read the post properly. I didnt refer to disabled people, I referred to the idlers who dont want to work and are being encouraged to stay idle by the benefits system

probablyamunreasonable · 16/08/2026 10:16

While I do think PIP needs some adapting, if Reform sticks with this they need to drop their anti working from home stance.

Working from home helps a lot of disabled people and people with mental health conditions and struggles stay in work. If you want as many people to work as possible, you need to support flexible working.

malefields · 16/08/2026 10:16

Lomonald · 16/08/2026 10:07

Why ?

Because it’s being attributed in situations when it’s not really needed and without proper verification and that money could be better spent elsewhere or increasing it for legitimate claimants?

(Allegedly) just last week someone I know well and therefore also know the situation well has (allegedly) been attributed an (allegedly) insane amount that she frankly does not need. The statement written by the friend was (allegedly) grossly exaggerated, this person does not (allegedly) need prompting, picking up, help getting dressed etc. She does suffer with some anxiety but she gets everywhere just fine on her own two feet, the only place that seemingly sets off this anxiety is… the workplace.
She’s absolutely fine going out with friends, dates, looking after herself, etc. Her anxiety is hugely driven by extremely bad spending habits and financial irresponsibly, which is what should be addressed. I can bet anything that (allegedly) in 3 years time she’ll be in the same debt that she is now because this extra money is (allegedly) going straight into holidays and botox.

Allegedly, allegedly, etc and so forth.

The notability scheme is crap. We advised our disabled daughter not to have it. As an aside how do you know all these people are on enhanced pip?

Because If you don’t get the enhanced rate, you’ll have to return your vehicle.

redange · 16/08/2026 10:17

I may tear up my Reform Membership over this ! Who is going to employ 55-60 year old disabled people with one leg or neurodiverse . Absolutely crackers and fallen right in the lap of the left wing media ! The country has many overlapping problems and has spending and huge debts as well situations on the ground that could spill over in to serious conflict. However, trying to save £50 Billion in an area which in reality is not saveable, because the state will in effect have to pay employers to employ disabled people. There is also a difference from a 20-30 year old disabled person who should be supported and encouraged to go to University and then 'Sponsored' in to a an appropriate job or career. This could be done by reintroducing new style 'Remploy' type organisations. There, is literally no chance of a 55-60 old disabled person being employed . So would a 55-60 year old be eligible for 'Health Insurance' because employment is impossible. Do the people at Reform not realise why Disability Payments are higher for disabled people, because Job Seekers is supposed to be 'temporary' where as Disabled Benefits are higher are because they are unlikely to ever work.

For a

Quite thankfully my son doesnt have any health issues
But at 16 hes totallly non verbal can only communicate on a very basic level
Has little undrstanding of the world around him.
Has the mind of a toddler etc , etc.

I'm glad they have announced this because it might make some of their supporters stop and think as it will apply to a lot of them.

Doubt it. They'll vote for them anyway then be in the daily Mail with a sad face when they lose their pip.

Starpaper · 16/08/2026 10:19

They’ve said companies can take out insurance to cover the extra bills to them. In order to get better deals from insurance companies they’re going to have to show robust vetting processes re employment which will surely mean scrutinising medical records. Those with any history will be screwed and find it even harder to get work. It’s madness and so so stupid.

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 10:20

Starpaper · 16/08/2026 09:59

It’s such a stupid ill thought out plan. They want businesses to take responsibility for sick pay so businesses will simply not employ people who have any history of MH or physical illness. So menopausal women, women of childbearing age, the disabled, the ND etc are all going to find it very hard to get jobs. The very people who need support into work. Not only that companies will surely demand to see medical records before employment and try to wriggle out of sick pay when it’s needed. Are we all going to hand them over?

Then there is the CBT they want to be given for all MH problems and physiotheraphy for physical disabilities instead of PIP😂😂😂. CBT often doesn’t work for those with ND and is useless for many conditions like trauma, EDs etc. You also can’t physio your way out of disability.

It’s so stupid you couldn’t make it up. One might think they want this announcement to deflect from something.🤔 Somebody needs to tell them the investigation into Farage isn’t going to go away. 😂

Spot on. Everything you pointed out is true. They are full of c*.They havent got one workable policy between them. Can you imagine the shambles. They'd make Boris's govt look like it had been run on the mechanism of a Swiss clock. What a bloody joke.

I haven’t checked but how does that relate to % of population.
Of course more taxpayers. But you would expect an increase when the population has grown by millions over the last fifty years.
What has changed though is the number of self employed people. People who previously were PAYE and employed by their employer are now self employed. And pay far less tax because of it. Those figures have increased quite considerably.

That and the numbers of people and businesses that do not pay what they should. Shocking amounts of defaulters.

I suspect if you look as per % of population the number of taxpayers is not as healthy as it should be.

She has the enhanced rate and it was still crap. Much better for us to scrape together for a car for her and she keeps her monthly payment which is crucial.

If we stopped funding all the scroungers that are coming over the Channel we might have some spare cash to spend on our own people.

The Channel Crossing Crisis has placed an enormous burden on the asylum system. In May 2025, the National Audit Office produced a report suggesting that the asylum system is likely to cost over £15bn over ten years.

Pip is a benefit that allows disabled people to keep working.

So much misinformation about this.

There are thousands of people who can work part time but not full time with chronic illness/disability. PIP helps them get to work with taxis or helps with mobility schemes to get them a car. Otherwise people would be stuck at home.

Reform are also the ones wanting everyone at the office and not working remotely.... So I don't know how this will solve any sort of benefits bill issue. They'll just remove all the ways disabled people currently earn a living!

But Mumsnet is awful about disabled people so I don't expect much uproar here.

If that is the case why is it awarded to people who aren’t working. I know someone who receives it who hasn’t had a job for over ten years. They had a minor stroke a couple of years ago, applied for pip and got it. They are capable of working but don’t want to. They have an issue with both alcohol and drugs, and life is much easier without the responsibility of having to get up and go to work every day. They have a nice life.

KnittingBasket · 16/08/2026 10:23

Robert Jenrick has spent months telling us all how Labour policies are making things difficult for businesses.

Robert Jenrick is now telling us businesses will have to fund sick pay for employees for two years.

Viviennemary · 16/08/2026 10:24

I heard they were going to target payments at folk with the most serious disabilities. Good idea imho.

It’s not a word salad, just a blatant (allegedly) case of misattribution of funds. I have no issue with PIP but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need looking into so that situations like these are avoided and the money can be allocated to users that actually need the support.

How do we do that then? You know it got worse because of Nigel's Brexit don't you?

It definitely needs a solution. Let's hear some. "Stop the boats" isn't a solution, it's a sound bite.
