Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

Fair enough, which shows that some people on the severe end of the spectrum have a justfible claim (which I think we all know). Does it not bother you that people with mild ASD/ ADHD are claiming and impacted the overall amount of money avaliable to fund PIP, and social benefits?
I think it needs reviewing because the system as it stands is not fair on the tax payer, but also not fair on the most disabled people.

Firstly, do you think if other people stopped claiming PIP then my child would get more money? If so, I have a bridge to sell you.
Secondly, it isn’t my job to say what other people should or shouldn’t get in support. Unless you live with someone you have no idea what their care needs are. All I can do is to accept that the (long, hideous, requiring lots of evidence) PIP/DLA assessment process generally does its job.

There is no mild adhd and autism as you have to reach the threshold of significant impact on life to get a diagnosis .

Everyone's an armchair expert looking for a home now that telling us how COVID and its vaccines are a conspiracy is obselete.

Starpaper · 16/08/2026 21:01

Periperi2025 · 16/08/2026 20:57

So why have numbers of claiments with these conditions sky rocketed and present at much higher rates than in other comparable countries?

ADHD and autism are under diagnosed in this country compared to other countries in the developed world. Rates have risen because we are better informed as to how they present in women, and girls and people of colour are no longer shut out of the diagnosis process.

Okay, well you need to say that then, because another medical abbreviation that LLI is used for is Low Latent Inhibition, which is used in the context of ADHD/ ASD and is not a formal medical or psychological condition.

Again so rude. Who do you think you are commanding people to use language for your convenience?

Because now we know it's not all about boys screaming and lining up cars?

Why would the Which website be the official motability scheme website? Do you think the Which pages for e.g. car seats are the official websites for the brands of car seats?

Both the other 2 are official Motability websites, but the first is the Motabiltiy Scheme and the third is the Motability Foundation.

You're right, you probably won't ever get more if they reduce the number of claimants (sadly), but you probably won't get what you currently have cut. Which amounts to the same thing.

ConveyancingHelll · 16/08/2026 20:23

OK - was involved.

That's progress. So I think we can agree that you can't get a BMW through motability now, present tense.

And regardless, the fact that you have no idea how they were paid for suggests maybe you should educate yourself. The taxpayer pays no more for someone using their enhanced mobility element for a motability vehicle than someone who uses it for something else - e.g. using taxis etc.

And the taxpayer pays no more for someone getting a BMW (when they were available) than a Skoda.

Agree

Even if a person didn’t get a Motobility car it wouldn’t make any difference as they would still get the high rate of pip.
so it won’t save any money by removing so called high end cars probably a few Motobility sales people may no longer have a job

Motobility is the largest fleet operator in Europe. It manages hundreds of thousands of vehicles and accounts for a massive share of all new car sales in the UK. Over 800 thousand cars in the uk
think of all the jobs lost if Motobility was stopped in full

prior to BMW being removed from the scheme a bmw x1 or x2 cost around 3500 4000k deposit when collected and you don’t get this money back when the lease ends

Because the use of three letter abbreviations is known to be problematic, hence why on our safeguarding forms at work , it states do NOT use abbreviations (which everyone ignores a little but at least be very careful and only use ones that are synoymous with a condition -like ADHD).

She used an abbreviation next to ADHD that is relevant to ADHD and therefore I interpreted it as such which is hardly surprising, given that ADHD is not a life limiting condition, so that wouldn't be the obvious conclusion to come to.

Welfare costs are bankrupting the country. Cheats claiming for everything inc stress, anxiety etc it’s ridiculous. Real disabled claims are fine but not those claiming for a bad back and then going out to play sports. Slims claiming for 6/7 children now. Bring it on Reform is what I say.

Freud2 · 16/08/2026 21:09

ClarkeandNewman · 16/08/2026 20:55

How did AI help with the assessment?

It basically told them how to fill in the form in order to gain most points.

A huge chunk of welfare is actually pensions. Those pesky people living to their late 60s. Ridiculous.

Then you say sorry, I misunderstood. You're not at work now, you're talking to the parents of children with life limiting illness so you need to be sensitive and not didactic.

Actually, I didn’t use it next to ADHD. I used it inside the brackets next to ‘several other diagnoses’.

The full sentence said “DS2 has ADHD (among several other diagnoses including an LLI).” It is very clear the LLI part of the sentence is not about the ADHD part of the sentence.

So you want employers to pay for sickness pay and your medical records to be scrutinised? What happens if you or your partner get ill?

Nothing wrong with that if it tallies up with their actual disabilities. Of course, if they are lying then that is wrong.
The forms are complicated and you have to word things a certain way. Just like if you were applying for a job. How many use AI to word things in a way that makes them look like the perfect candidate?

  1. I don't know - I just googled "Motability"
  2. & 3. So how do I know which one is correct? As I said confusing.
It would have been simpler if you'd just given me the link to look for myself. But I was told to "educate myself" and I'm trying to do just that and still getting berated for it.

I give up.
That's 20 mins of my life I won't get back.

Pretty sure they’ll have AI checkers. AI wouldn’t have helped us in the slightest.

So if you google ‘dyson’ do you think the which page is the official Dyson page?

I didn’t tell you to educate yourself. I told you the official motabilty scheme. If you look at the websites you link to, you would see that.

You could use either of the first or third links. The first allows you to search vehicles. The second links to the first to search for vehicles.

Surely as you were the person who informed the thread that BMWs are available, it was on you to show this was the case?

It isn’t confusing, its no different to googling BBC you read the names of the websites and the one called BBC is correct. Your link was an obvious give away of not being the official site as the word motability wasn’t spelled correctly.

OK I'm done here.

I am not too familiar with AI, but I get your point in that it wont know your medical records or care needs.
I don't think there is anything wrong with getting help with the forms though, so I do not get the outrage about there being services out there that will help.
