Need to uninvite someone from a girls weekend

OITNB · 24/07/2026 22:38

I’m organising a mums’ weekend away later this year. I booked the accommodation and invited a group from our sons’ year at school. No money has changed hands yet.

Since the invitations went out, one of the women has had major fallings out with two of the others who are coming. There have been a number of arguments and it’s created quite a lot of tension within the wider year group.

It’s now got to the point where several people have told me they’re uncomfortable about the situation. To make matters worse, we’ve just found out that a number of us haven’t been invited to another social event that same weekend because she’s staying with us. Whether that’s right or wrong, it’s made the atmosphere even more awkward.

I now feel I’m in the position of having to tell her I don’t think she should stay with us anymore. Her son is friends with my son, so I’m conscious there will be fallout. Equally, I don’t want ten other people feeling uncomfortable all weekend.

Am I being unreasonable to withdraw the invitation before anyone has paid? If not, how would you word it?

I’m afraid you need to cancel and refund everyone and use the venue for an impromptu holiday for your own family. You can’t just exclude one person.

Also, if this woman is falling out with everyone left, right and centre, why is she still keen to come on the weekend and has anyone stopped to talk to her and find out if she is ok and what on earth is going on?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · Yesterday 08:34

Unless it a party (obviously) I don’t get how this uninviting works how do you stop people going to certain places. No one would be dictating to me where I could and couldn’t go.

Gengha · Yesterday 08:42

Well if she’s that much of an arsehole why why would you worry about upsetting her? Just tell her she’s uninvited without that wanky Chat GPT wording. What does “leave your place in the accommodation” even mean?

Alternatively I agree with everyone elee
stay out of it.

How come you’ve paid 50% of the booking without taking money off anyone else?

Never heard of school mums going away together… Surely a recipe for disaster? No help at all to you, just surprised that this is a thing!

Exactly 💯 This was my 1st thought when I started reading thr OP!

RevengeOfTheDirtyLaundry · Yesterday 08:46

There's no way you can uninvite her without upsetting her. If you're going to do it, be honest - "Your argument with X and Y has created tension in the group so I think it's best you don't join us."

Personally I'd want no part in this drama so I'd either cancel the whole thing or go ahead as planned and let them sort out their petty squabbles themselves.

Indeed my first thought also.

I completely agree it all sounds very immature. I’m really not one for drama, which is probably why I wish I’d never booked the weekend in the first place! Unfortunately it’s a weekend away organised for the whole Year group of mums, with everyone booking their own accommodation and a couple of lunches and dinners planned over the weekend, so it’s not really something that can just be cancelled or repurposed. I’m hoping everyone can put any differences aside and simply enjoy the weekend. Fingers crossed it’ll all have settled down by then.

Edited

So have you booked and paid a 50% deposit on the accommodation or has everyone booked their own accommodation?

fair point, we are all women in our 50’s and boys are 17. We have now decided a couple of the women are going to meet with the other woman and have a chat face to face. So thank you all for your responses.

50s? I thought this was some over zealous yummy mummy primary school thing. Jesus. Who wants this drama in their 50s.

Just cancel. And FFS don't send that message.

This. Definitely don't send that message, it is terrible. Imagine receiving that....

Hi [Name].

I've been putting off sending this because I know it's not an easy conversation.

When I first organised the weekend to [wherever], I thought everyone would have a lovely time together.

Unfortunately, things have now changed quite a bit, and there's now a lot of tension within the group.

I've thought about it for a long time, and I don't think it's fair to anyone for us all to stay together for the weekend. Because of that, I think it's best if we leave your place in the accommodation.

I know this will probably be upsetting, and I'm really sorry, because it isn't a decision I've made lightly.

I hope you know this isn't about trying to hurt you, and I don't want it to affect the boys' friendship. I just don't think the current situation is going to make for a comfortable weekend for anyone involved.

We can have a catch up next week over coffee/a drink/ something you normally do together.

Jesus wept!
Mean girl behaviour really does last past the teenage years.
Do not send anything like this OP.
Cancel the whole thing, take a hit on the deposit or get the bickering suits who caused this ti chip in to cover it.

This. Group holidays look great on Instagram. In reality they are always a shit storm of crappy sleeping arrangements, fall-outs, bitching and general shitty hell.

superspideysense · Yesterday 09:12

It all sounds awful!! A whole year group of mums going away??

Imdunfer · Yesterday 09:16

OITNB · 24/07/2026 22:57

Thank you. I like this wording. I understand people are assuming this is a case of the group turning on one person. It isn’t. From my perspective, she’s been the common denominator in a number of separate fallings out since February. There have been repeated conflicts with different mums, including one she’s now in legal proceedings with over another girls’ weekend
That’s why I’ve reached this decision. I’ve already paid a deposit on the house, so cancelling the weekend doesn’t seem fair on everyone else. She could still come but I think it could be beyond awkward for everyone.

Deleted, didn't read full explanation before writing.

Rubyupbeat · Yesterday 09:19

Definitely cancel the whole thing. You can't take sides.

That’s even worse. I thought they were younger parents. It sounds like a bat shit idea going away for a weekend with associates.
Cancel the trip. Do something else with the people you are closest too. She might sue you for exclusion.

MrsEmmelineLucas · Yesterday 09:20

Legal proceedings over another holiday. Dear lord, avoid this! You'll lose money, but keep your sanity.

"Dear friend,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. I can absolutely see that I've been involved in a few dramas lately, and I recognise that it's impacting all of you.

Absolutely no worries about uninviting me. Completely the right thing to do. Don't you worry for one second that it will affect Harry and Archie's friendship - service continues as usual!

Let's do coffee next week and try that new cake!

Love and hugs,

Persona non grata"

😂 as if … (I know you’re being sarcastic!).

Lentilcakes · Yesterday 09:28

To add - can’t believe you’re all in your 50s w teenage boys in 6th form - I thought the kids would be primary school aged so they needed their mums to facilitate the friendships.
