Rude text? Or a valid ‘joke’

Melmel2 · Today 12:29

My boyfriend stayed over last night, I was clear with him I had a very early WFH meeting and would need him to be gone by 9. He was, but text me mid morning to say ‘bit gutted I had to leave, I was expecting cornflakes and a quick wank’

I told him I was clear I started work at 9 and needed the flat clear so no interruptions.

He replied saying ‘haha obviously joking, it’s a famous film line’. I’ve never heard of it and he hasn’t replied to tell me which one it’s from.

Would anyone else find that rude?

Have you googled it?

goodnessidontknow · Today 12:32

It's from the film The Football Factory. i haven't seen it but have heard it quoted. If you don't know it sounds crass though.

rubyslippers · Today 12:32

Don’t know if it’s rude but it’s immature

Oreosareawful · Today 12:33

Instant ick.

And you didn't bother with Google? 😳

Sherararara · Today 12:34

Google is your friend. Either way learn to take a joke.

Loulou4022 · Today 12:36

DH and I thrive on humour in our relationship and a text like that wouldn’t bother me in the slightest! However it does bother you so sounds like the 2 of you are incompatible?

Wishimaywishimight · Today 12:37

Movie line or not, it's crude and unfunny. I would find it off-putting.

nomas · Today 12:40

Did he leave promptly and of his own accord before 9am? Or did you have to keep telling him to leave? If the latter, YANBU.

justaboymummy · Today 12:40

It is a line in a film and tbh if my DH sent me something like this I'd pmsl but that's us and we have this level of banter with each other.... hate for most MN'ers to see our message history tbh 😂
Maybe you arn't as compatible as you hoped/thought?

Nevs · Today 12:40

Just admit you find him annoying in other areas. This text alone would trigger such a strong reaction if you liked him in every other way.

What???

"Learn to take a joke" ?????

Why, because a man expected you to??? 🙄

Velvera · Today 12:41

Don't any of you ever joke with your partners?

I'd have laughed and called him a cheeky twat.

thatgreenjuniper · Today 12:47

It's a bit crass, but as a movie quote, it was obviously a joke.

You don't have to like the joke, but it wasn't like an actual comment he made.

You can joke about things that are actually funny or amusing. The movie quote was neither.

Nothing to be offended or bothered about, nothing wrong in saying that quote is gross, haha.

No not ‘because a man’… because someone made a joke. Males and females make jokes, even if you don’t get the reference you don’t need to be offended because a man did it

Erin1975 · Today 12:52

It is clearly a joke based on a quote from a movie. Some people will find it offensive, others would find it amusing. There is no right or wrong, it depends on your personality.

Liveafr · Today 12:55

How long have you been together?
Was there some truth to his joke (he was really annoyed about having to leave early) ?

But who are you to declare it was 'neither'?

Humour is a personal thing.

This guy thought it was funny and the OP did not, that's all.

@Sherararara what you may find a joke and therefore funny others don’t. So you are being very rude telling op to learn to take a joke

Chuck him back. It’s a red flag.
How dare he think his text was acceptable. Says everything about how he thinks of you.

MyDarlingRose · Today 12:58

I’d just reply ‘never has a mental image been more unattractive. I have wheatabisks’
