Metro article about prisoners and the heatwave, but if they behaved they would not be in prison ?

Im all for caring for humanity as a whole, but in terms of prisoners they did commit crimes and get locked up.

You may find an entire judicial system unwilling to partake. To ‘train the right person’
you need the volunteer to begin with. Importing goods still requires companies to cooperate and an infrastructure to support in the UK. All these factors contributed to the abolition of the death penalty and are reasons for delay in countries that still do have it. That cat still has no bell.

Question how or why does it help society to let criminals that murder go free with potential to reoffend and potentially murder again ?

Well that’s clearly not the case
is it? The alternative to capital punishment isn’t let them go free. That’s a debate about sentencing which is a whole different topic.

did i say any of that and if i did could you please quote me directly otherwise wow on your assuming you know what my thoughts are

”if uk does not have viable companies then im guessing like the arms trade there will be one or another country willing to sell their services and machines and equipment“

At some point it’s best to just admit you’ve been outclassed and walk away from a debate.

i may be out classed and ill admit that but what i dont agree with is when people use the Reinterpretation of my words and then try to say that's what i mean or i am saying without actually asking me eg if you said are you saying x etc

PenelopeJoanSterling · Yesterday 22:20

Yeah to be fair it’s not actually clear what you mean at all because your posts just don’t make sense anymore.

I’ve tried to engage in a meaningful conversation with you but you’re just not interested

Why have you tried to start a serious debate if you can’t follow and respond to people?

Why have you tried to start a serious debate if you can’t follow and respond to people?

because im strange. and i dont think normally

basically im mostly Bentham/consequentialism with elements of Hobbes and realism vs iwasboredinbed who id guess is mainly Kant/deontological

OP posts:
PenelopeJoanSterling · Yesterday 22:35

Im ;

40% Hobbesian realism (strong state, order, security)
30% Retributive justice (crime deserves punishment)
20% Consequentialism (judge policies by whether they protect society)
10% Situational psychology (drawing on Zimbardo's work to acknowledge that environments can shape behaviour)

OP posts:
PenelopeJoanSterling · Yesterday 22:36

In short Individual rights matter, but they should not prevent society from protecting innocent people from dangerous offenders.

OP posts:
PenelopeJoanSterling · Yesterday 22:38

The justice system exists primarily to protect innocent people. If legal rules obstruct that purpose, we should at least question whether they're fit for purpose.

Most prisoners have already been failed by society - terrible parenting, lack of education, abused and neglected as children, fell through the cracks in children's homes and youth offending services. I'm not sure leaving them to boil alive is particularly helpful for rehabilitation.

So now you've done an online ethics/morals quiz and are copying the results here?

I hope none of your grandchildren ever fall on hard times or reach for drugs and alcohol to cope with life's problems. Any one of us could find ourselves in difficulties one day. Prisoners arent a separate species- they are humans with emotions and needs, just like your perfect family.

Most prisoners have failed society by not fulfilling their obligations.
