Metro article about prisoners and the heatwave, but if they behaved they would not be in prison ?

Im all for caring for humanity as a whole, but in terms of prisoners they did commit crimes and get locked up.

There are a lot of mentally ill and neurodiverse people in prison. It’s a shame for them that society didn’t catch them before prison.

If we had a more equal society, most of those people would not have done those things (if indeed they actually did; how many innocent people is it OK to give heatstroke to?). And prison definitely does not stop them doing it again (the reverse, if anything).

Even if they were the most evil people in the world (if evil exists), unless you are also evil (in which case you deserve to be in there too), their needs (including not being overheated) should be met.

Most female prisoners are either in there for not paying the fine for watching television without a licence, or because they stole, or for minor drug-related offences (usually either for food for their children, or being coerced to by their male partner). Over half have experienced childhood or domestic abuse or both, and over half probably have traumatic brain injuries. Over 80% are mentally ill.

It's also estimated that at least one third and possibly more than half of prisoners are neurodivergent (usually undiagnosed) so their offences are often likely related to a lack of support from society. Never mind the racism embedded in the system at every stage (arrest, conviction, and sentencing).

But yeah, let's cook them to death...

YABU, if that wasn't clear.

Edited

Cook them to death. Stop exaggerating.
