Vegans

I find them a bit meh. I'm happy for them to do their own thing if they leave me alone. I think this is overstepping. Do vegans not have pets? After all, keeping pets is just forcing animals to live and be controlled by humans.

No. You said you were naturally vegan because there were no meat style substitutes. That makes no sense. If you were just vegetarian then why couldn't you eat eggs or cheese

And if you read my subsequent post...

Generally.

I don't care.

Gloriia · 11/07/2026 15:30

We should all strive to be vegan or veggie. Eating animals is not ok. I don't preach but I do judge those shoving pork pies or bacon butties in their faces.

Concern with the welfare of birds being used for entertainment is not the same as having a rescue pet.

uptheposh · 11/07/2026 15:31

I expect you are one of those people who has to pile on saying you can’t live without cheese or bacon 😴

Or someone claiming to be an animal lover - when what you mean is cats and dogs but not cows and pigs.

AlgaeDreams · 11/07/2026 15:28

Why are you so aggressive? I have no axe to grind against vegans.

But you said this....

I was vegetarian early 90s for over 15 years. My food was naturally vegan because there was no Quorn or meat substitutes

Quorn and meat substitutes are vegan aren't they? Why would the fact they weren't around mean your diet was more vegan than vegetarian. Why did their absence make you less likely to eat eggs or dairy. I don't care what you eat or don't eat.. it just makes no logical/linguistic sense.

I couldn't care less, I'm yet to meet a vegan who announces it.

Surely the protest was about animal/bird welfare and they happen to be vegan.

I was vegetarian early 90s for over 15 years. My food was naturally vegan because there was no Quorn or meat substitutes.

I don't recall annoying anbody, but I think if I came across you, that you'd annoy me regardless of views.

That doesn't make any sense at all.

Again, I would politely want to disagree. That might be your definition of vegan, but there isn't a single vegan authority dictating correct vegan beliefs. Opposing exploitation of animals is a common theme, but equating that to opposing pet ownership isn't in either a dictionary definition not the vegan society's definition.

I don't have a horse in the race, I'm not vegan, but I am a vegetarian who's spent years putting up with seemingly endless "you're doing it wrong if..." comments. I just think we should accept the right of individuals to decide on the nuances of their own moral stance.

It is the vegan society’s definition:

"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

I don’t have a horse in the race either… as a vegan, we’re against that (sorry, I couldn’t resist)

Definition of veganism

What is a vegan and vegan food? What does veganism mean?

I'm not aggressive, I'm tired. Quorn used to contain some egg derivative, no idea now.

And I don't care what you think.

She used to eat cheese before becoming intolerant to lactose, eggs and honey. Now she chooses not to. It’s her choice. She is pretty healthy and runs regularly as far as marathons, so it’s not doing her any harm. Live and let live.

Inner choice and aslong as she’s happy that’s the main thing, my point was she doesn’t sound like she’s a vegan for the usual reason a vegan is a vegan

VoteForCountBinface · 11/07/2026 15:35

'We should all strive to be vegan or veggie.'
I don't. I think we should all strive to eat with more thought for the planet.
Good quality meat every now and then is fine, should you choose to eat it.
I choose not to.

Absolutely ridiculous.

My apologies - lactose intolerant and I've never really liked eggs in any form.

Is everybody happy now? Knicker elastic untwisted?

It still makes no sense that your diet was more vegan than vegetarian because purely vegan meat substitutes didn't exist.

If you'd have said my diet was more vegan because I don't like eggs or am lactose intolerant we would have understood

I think calling oneself “plant based” has to be even more irritating surely?

Agree. They are made of meat, like the rest of us.

Their diet, on the other hand...

Quorn / meat sub aren't the difference between vegan and vegetarian!

Im not vegan.

Your post confused several people not just me. It made zero sense

Glitchymn1 · 11/07/2026 15:45

I’m vegan and don’t discuss it or bring it up. It’s nobody’s business what I put in my mouth. Once people find out it really winds them up, they take great relish in telling me about the amount of meat they consume 🤷‍♀️. Most meat eaters don’t wear fur or agree with fur farms, or eating dogs, or fighting dogs. It’s more nuanced than that isn’t it? Rage bait post op lol

You should be fucking thankful for vegans - supply and demand, we’re keeping prices down for you!!!! But seriously why the hate? Something in your conscience?

“Whenever someone describes themselves as ‘plant based’ I can’t help wondering how much of their DNA is sprouts.” -I also avoid stupid comments like this. Is your DNA part wolf then?
I don’t care if you eat meat, I think the torture and abuse of farmed animals is abhorrent, so do most meat eaters, you prefer not to think about it don’t you?

O wouldn’t have a problem with the bird event you posted particularly to be honest, though I think bird keeping is cruel.
