So who’s actually enjoying this heat wave?

So we all know that mumsnetters love a good argy bargy over Summer vs Winter.

Are people actually enjoying this heat? If you are, what is it about it that you like?

Yabu - it’s great I love it
Yanbu - it’s too hot

I am in Berkshire and I will take this over the wet and grey weather we have most of the year.
I love sitting outside in the mornings and evenings, not having to put much clothing on.
I work at school and love the shorter working days and finishing at 12.40.
It is nice not to have to put much effort into cooking for a change and eat simple things instead.
However, the temperature at the house at night and the lack of air flow is the one thing I dislike. Had to resort to sleeping on the mattress in my living as upstairs is unbearable.

It’s glorious in Scotland. We’ve had several days of nice weather. That’s a heatwave for us.

Loving it.

Me too

And me- this heat renders me incapable of of everything

Currently sat on the west coast with my iced coffee basking in 28 degrees and it’s perfect.

Beachforever · 25/06/2026 14:55

I really suffer in the cold. I have Raynauds and feel the cold very easily.

Give me hot, sunny days! I’m in my element. It’s tough to work at home in the heat but better than being cold.

AhhhSchtop · 25/06/2026 15:04

25-29 degrees and I’m in my element - wish we had consistent summer months of nice, warm weather.

But 30 degrees + in London is just too much. I can’t sleep and I’ve got no energy, if I was sitting underneath a big parasol by a pool or beach with nothing to do but relax it would be a different matter.

I'm following the weather down to London tonight and can't wait, I love the sun

Peachylove802 · 25/06/2026 15:16

If you are up north or even scotland then you honestly have no idea how awful 35 degree weather is with no aircon. I'd be loving life if it was a nice 22 degrees. Thank god today is the last very warm day.

I’m sure even northerners have experienced being in different places.

You say that like none of us have ever left Scotland.

Yeah but likely with aircon at night.

Okay so it's 37 degrees right now where I am, where have YOU been thats 37 degrees, with NO aircon at night?

Shinyhappyapple · 25/06/2026 15:33

Thechaseison71 · 25/06/2026 12:51

I'm also in SE and it's saying high of 28

Are you on the coast? As from what I’ve seen on the weather map, the really hot weather doesn’t seem to reach the coast.

Shinyhappyapple · 25/06/2026 15:38

Delatron · 25/06/2026 13:14

Thank you. He is now tolerating a wet tea towel under him! I shall keep sprinkling a bit of water on him and build up his tolerance.

It’s so hard watching them be uncomfortable. I am having to pay more attention to him than my kids (who are teenagers to be fair!).

I realised yesterday that our fans are all on the level for me and DH so I’ve put another one at floor level pointing directly at where my dog is lying . Not sure he appreciates it though as he keeps wanting to go and lie in the full sun. Stupid animal !

Western Australia, tiny little place called Agnew, it's a minesite, I worked in the tin shed pub there, 43 degrees.

Shinyhappyapple · 25/06/2026 15:42

@PistachioTiramisu
can you not just wash your hair and leave it to dry naturally? Wet hair is cooling in itself. I’ve just had a cut and colour with my mobile hairdresser and I r just said to her to leave it to dry off by itself.

Don't be silly, we're born and never go further than 5 miles for life, not a clue about anywhere else, no idea what the international airport 40 mins away is even for.

frozendaisy · 25/06/2026 15:42

Having a lovely day here

socks1107 · 25/06/2026 15:48

Not really enjoying this. Is far too hot tbh.
The tune was awful on Tuesday, no fans in my office and the train home had broken windows. By the time I got home I was broken!

it’s far too intense at these temperatures for me to enjoy much

Shinyhappyapple · 25/06/2026 15:50

Honeyhonay · 25/06/2026 15:19

I’m sure even northerners have experienced being in different places.

But they haven’t necessarily lived in warmer climes at the life stage they are currently.

Lauren1983 · 25/06/2026 16:21

Not me! Currently 35 degrees but BBC Weather app says feels 43. We have 3 fans running with a bowl of ice in front of 2 of them but it is so uncomfortable. DP is currently sitting in a cold bath as he is starting to feel unwell. Luckily no pets to worry about.

And some of us had, by the age of 21 so an incredibly patronising thing to say really

AbsoluteHoot · 25/06/2026 16:27

My phone says it’s 31 here. It’s quite ok. I’ve been sitting under a tree in the garden and it wasn’t too hot at all.

The dogs are pawing at me for their afternoon walk, but they’ll have to wait a few more hours.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 25/06/2026 16:48

Not me! Absolutely detest it! Give me cooler, wetter summers any time, 20 degrees is plenty, without the blazing sunshine. I have, all my life, avoided ever going to a hot country and not being able to function. Fortunately my house is old with thick stone walls, stone floors and thatch, so is relatively cool - there is a strong breeze blowing straight off the Bristol Channel, but it is a hot breeze and actually making the oppressive heat and humidity worse. Roll on the weekend when temperatures are forecast to be low twenties with overcast skies and hopefully some rain. Apologies to all the sun worshipers out there, but this is purgatory for me and, more importantly, the wildlife and living, growing things.

Nope just a couple of miles from Brentwood
