So who’s actually enjoying this heat wave?

So we all know that mumsnetters love a good argy bargy over Summer vs Winter.

Are people actually enjoying this heat? If you are, what is it about it that you like?

Yabu - it’s great I love it
Yanbu - it’s too hot

Would have liked it if I didn’t have my period.

And some of us had, by the age of 21 so an incredibly patronising thing to say really

I said not necessarily at the life stage they are now. . So for example, heat to me in my 20s was nothing, but post menopause and a size 16, I really struggle. Why on earth would you think that what I said was patronising?

Yeah but likely with aircon at night.

Why would that be likely? You sound incredibly narrow minded.

HATE IT. Roll on September when it is cool enough to actually do the gardening, walking etc

Me too. I love Spring, Autumn and Winter (my favourite). Never liked the heat it makes me feel ill, but appreciate that others do love it and happy for them to bask in it whilst it lasts.

Western Australia, tiny little place called Agnew, it's a minesite, I worked in the tin shed pub there, 43 degrees.

Okay, but can we all admit the average person from the UK north has probably not been in 35-37 degree weather with no aircon at night, and for me as a southerner I am now only experiencing this for the first time for this long in my lifetime.

Because hot countries have aircon at night. I am not saying they haven't travelled, just that it's very unlikely they've been somewhere this hot with NO aircon at night. But yes, there appears to be some who have spent time in the asusie outback in a tin shed at 43 degrees...but I'm guessing they are a outlier.

Esmeraldathe3rd · 25/06/2026 18:25

We coincidentally booked a holiday for this week at a place with an outside pool, A lovely beach and all inclusive. So yeah it's pretty decent. Was gutted when a school disco and awards ceremony were planned for this week at school but it's been cancelled and moved to next week due to the heat. So for once, it's all fallen in our favour and we're having a great time.

We would have been really really struggling at home, it's not set up for this heat at all.

Pibs101 · 25/06/2026 18:29

I voted you are not being unreasonable. But then I am a true cold or cool weather lover. My ideal temperature is probably around 10c which isn’t very cold really but I don’t really start to think it’s too cold until It gets down to about -5 or lower. I also don’t even like just warm temperatures let alone hot weather and I don’t moan during winter.

The outlier is me, lived in WA for two years, it gets hot, particularly in the outback and often no aircon.
I backpackerd through SE Asia first, also no aircon in cheap places
It's fine, just don't presume we're all bumpkins because we're in Scotland, international travel is a thing for all ages, and has been for a very long time.

cupfinalchaos · 25/06/2026 20:46

Anything rather than rain. Doesn’t bother me I just keep out of sun.

Really? Everyone or just the well off? You do realize that places like Cambodia for example have extremely expensive electric and the run of the mill people don't have nor can afford aircon. Some families live in shacks with corrugated metal roofs

SaferHaven · 25/06/2026 20:55

Its Too hot for me this and cant manage life well in it

TheRealMagic · 25/06/2026 21:10

I found the day too hot but I've just been out for an evening stroll and I honestly think it's perfection. I'm happy with a day like today if the trade off is a summer evening this beautiful.

Chagalaga23 · 25/06/2026 22:35

I love the warm! Feels like being on holiday without the faff and all the expense

Omgheslikethat · 25/06/2026 23:29

When I've bought myself a fan to cool the house down I'll be a lot happier.

Unfortunately the DH isn't a fan of a fan but I plan to use it anyway.

CassandraWebb · 25/06/2026 23:40

I am totally housebound by it. Even stepping outside or moving around a non -airconditioned room makes my Myasthenia symptoms flare rapidly so I feel very vulnerable and trapped

We luckily have AC in one room downstairs but I am even having to plan trips out of that room to go to the loo around medication doses

LuxuryWoman2020 · 26/06/2026 00:36

I love warmth, I love the sun but this is torture. I've drunk maybe 3 litres of water but peed twice today as I'm sweating so much.

There isn't a col spot to be had where I am and I can't think of anything but I'm too hot.

I've been to hot countries coped because of air conditioning, pools, the sea, endless drinks under shady canopies, this is very different

Exactly. There are lots of hot places where people can't afford aircon. We also have relatives in few and often in apartment buildings the aircon really suffers tp bring under 25-27 when it's 42 outside.

What? I'm talking about Northerners from the UK only. Obviously.

I'm not talking about people who live in hot countries who can't afford aircon. 🙄

But they haven’t necessarily lived in warmer climes at the life stage they are currently.

As an honorary northerner, I lived in two very hot countries when I was in my twenties, and fifties. I’m very intolerant of heat now and this hot spell has completely incapacitated me, and I feel il.

Same here. I like cold bright days. I don't like red weather warnings. My sitting room has been uncomfortably hot for 3 days solid, which is something I have never experienced before and I remember the summer of '76.
