So who’s actually enjoying this heat wave?

So we all know that mumsnetters love a good argy bargy over Summer vs Winter.

Are people actually enjoying this heat? If you are, what is it about it that you like?

Yabu - it’s great I love it
Yanbu - it’s too hot

I used to tip cold water onto my dog when she was hot. She loved it and it cooled her right down
Also she had a cooling mat.

Thanks for the tips! For some reason he doesn’t like me tipping water on him - I’m gonna give it another go though as he doesn’t seem to know what is best for him. I’ve given him a cold towel to lay on but he’s avoiding that!

He ate the last cooling mat I bought 😂 labs! I’m off to see if there’s anythingI can order to help him though.

If he doesn't like too much water try putting your hand in his water bowl and just sprinkling some onto his neck. I did this with my cat yesterday and she was a bit miffed but glad of it!

Hope you find a solution. I feel for animals in this heat.

It depends so much on where you live. I’m betting you’re not in the SE

No im not in the SE but if i was i would still be enjoying it and making the most of it. I understand what high temps feel like. I’m actively disappointed it’s only 27 degrees in my little corner of the earth.

Thechaseison71 · 25/06/2026 12:51

I'm also in SE and it's saying high of 28

Specialneedsnightmare · 25/06/2026 12:53

I'm in the SE and its 34. You can't walk directly in the sun it's absolutely unbearable. This is from me who absolutely worships the hot sunny days.

the weather gods were truly on your side!

Alas, didn't feel like it when I was sharing my classroom with a group of year 10s and an inspector with the thermometer on 33 C.

Thank you. He is now tolerating a wet tea towel under him! I shall keep sprinkling a bit of water on him and build up his tolerance.

It’s so hard watching them be uncomfortable. I am having to pay more attention to him than my kids (who are teenagers to be fair!).

28 is fine. We’re currently at 33-34 here in Bucks. It depends where you are. There’s a pocket of the SE that’s still under a red warning for tomorrow now. It really is hellish once you get to 35 plus. It’s quite a big difference.

How would make the most of 35 degrees? Just out of interest. Sadly I don’t have a pool or sea nearby and walking in it is unbearable.

Oh and I can’t describe how humid it is which makes a difference too. It is not a dry heat and there’s no respite even at night. As the houses are retaining all the heat.

Wagyue · 25/06/2026 13:25

No aircon so find sleeping hard.
Have had enough of it.

Mistyloo22 · 25/06/2026 13:25

I’m loving it, virtually living outdoors in the shade. Load more conversation with DD rather than just watching tv.

paradisecircus · 25/06/2026 13:28

I don't mind it. It's the UK - it won't last forever.
Work is quite stuffy, but I've enjoyed sitting in my garden early in the morning and late evening, and slobbing out with the fan on, reading. I'd love to be by the sea somewhere, but can't have it all.

pilates · 25/06/2026 13:28

Hate it

Im draping wet tea towels over mine.

I'm enjoying it but its 26 degrees now here so not as hot compared to some areas. I'm not working today but I do walk everywhere so took a water bottle with me. I like eating out in our garden, doing the school run in the sunshine and generally just enjoy warm weather. I know this will be short lived since we are in Scotland so am just enjoying it. Yes it is harder whilst at work as some places dont have air-conditioning but we don't get this weather often so I am not complaining.

PistachioTiramisu · 25/06/2026 13:42

I used to love hot weather and couldn't wait for it to arrive, but this is just too much. Yesterday was 35 (South coast) and last night was just dreadful. It was over 30 in the bedroom, tried the sofa bit it's fabric and felt sweltering. Stopped sweating around 4.30 and got 2 hours' sleep before I woke up with cramp in my legs! Today is even worse - 34 at the moment with a feels like temp of 38! I just hope the coming storms clear the air a bit and we can go back to a reasonable 26/27!

Edited to say I haven't done any housework, my hair is filthy because I can't bear the thought of using a hairdryer/tongs and I've lost my appetite!

Dubrovnikgirl · 25/06/2026 13:46

I don't mind this weather, it's 34°C at the moment in Surrey. Back home, this is typical summer weather. Once it gets hot in June, it doesn't cool down until September. In UK, this kind of weather doesn't last long.
I struggle when temp go over 40C and then you get lots of fires, when everything is burning, and the fire brigade struggles to keep the fire in control. Yeah, that's not a nice place to be in, and I've been through it a few times.

Sunnyyetnotsunny · 25/06/2026 13:52

Lots of us moved work hours to finish 4 or before at work so we can enjoy it after the hottest part of the day. It's lovely. Plants are loving it, everything in garden is active, all water provided is being permanently used. Birds are really active. Fun to watch. But we are only on 30c according to my shaded thermostat. Anything above would not be as fun.

I'm quite aware thanks I spend 2 months a year in 30plus temperatures in Asia. But strangely enough they don't put weather warnings at 35 degrees

It was hotter yesterday and will be hotter tomorrow

Do t think you'd need a hairdryer. Hair would soon dry in the heat and at least be clean

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 25/06/2026 14:23

I don't mind the heat, its not unbearable (south east) and I can WFH

I am pissed off my cleaner has cancelled again though.

Abracadabra12345 · 25/06/2026 14:31

I guess the cleaner does mind the heat and cleaning is physically tiring, far worse in the heat

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 25/06/2026 14:33

Evidently. I guess I've saved £60.

Anononony · 25/06/2026 14:38

I am! My house is a lovely temperature generally, I've got a tan, even my legs are getting some colour!

Driving isn't great as my aircon has gone, if I had that it'd be perfect

Kids are at school and doing sports as normal (with some additional breaks and safety measures), our workshop is underground so feels very cool

I run cool though and struggle to get warm enough when it's cold, so summer suits me better

ETA our temps are 32c, with a feels like temp of 34c

TeflonMom · 25/06/2026 14:38

I also love the heat. I hate the relentless grey and rain. I think I’m a lizard person though because I’m always cold except for right now. This is nice and warm
