So who’s actually enjoying this heat wave?

So we all know that mumsnetters love a good argy bargy over Summer vs Winter.

Are people actually enjoying this heat? If you are, what is it about it that you like?

Yabu - it’s great I love it
Yanbu - it’s too hot

I would be fine with it if i didn’t have the kids to deal with.

Tattletail · 24/06/2026 20:59

No I'm not a happy bunny. I'm 38 weeks pregnant. Plus have gestational diabetes so all the lovely cooling summery food and drink is off the menu.

But normally I wouldn't mind it too much.

EasternStandard · 24/06/2026 21:00

I love it but I also like other seasons

frecklejuice · 24/06/2026 21:04

I hate it! I’ve never been good with the heat and now add in perimenopause and the fact that I take antidepressants which are known for increasing your core body temperature I’m struggling! I’m an autumn/winter lover.

cinquanta · 24/06/2026 21:05

DH and I absolutely love this weather. We have spent a fair bit of time in warmer parts of the world so I think this has helped.

AbsoluteHoot · 24/06/2026 21:07

We are loving it. But it’s not been too hot here yet. SE. Dinners outside every evening, lots of barbecues - we’re making the most of it.

DJKATIE · 24/06/2026 21:08

I think it's fantastic. Not working for a couple of weeks so chilling in the garden or in the pool, heaven

Shinyhappyapple · 24/06/2026 21:08

Too hot for me, but I’m not a winter lover either. I function best at 16-22°, maybe a little higher if I have a breeze, sea and a swimming pool.

relaxitsok · 24/06/2026 21:10

Love it. In Scotland so very pleasant temps at late 20s, my veggies are finally taking off after weeks of cold and rain, I live in a lovely old house which is cool indoors and the kids finish school tomorrow so it’s proper holiday land!!

Ibi · 24/06/2026 21:12

I’m loving it!! Nice air conditioned office in central London, 12 min commute home on an air conditioned train. Leaving slightly earlier so home by 5.30pm, feet in the paddling pool, kids splashing about. Dinner in the garden, kids just gone to bed, enjoying a glass of wine in the garden in the cooler air. I’m so much happier when the sun is out.

AnNonnyMouse3 · 24/06/2026 21:12

No air con here, was 43 degrees in car today driving between patient home visits.
I’m in a highly vulnerable group due to multiple medications which disrupt ability to regulate body temp.
I’m ginger.
My teens are suffering through mocks in obscenely hot exam halls.

I used to always be a “summer person” but I’m at the end of my rope.

SpottyAlpaca · 24/06/2026 21:16

Yesterday was fine here (East Midlands). Today was a bit too hot, but I got up early & went for a run in the relative cool of 7am. It’s fine again now, with a nice bit of breeze blowing through the house.

The media hysteria about a few hot days is completely ridiculous. Buy I can say that because I’m neither old, chronically ill nor obese.

Dilemma999 · 24/06/2026 21:18

Think it depends where you live. Some parts of the country are having 25 degrees which would be perfect for me (sadly I’m in the 37 degrees and very humid bit which is horrible).

Ditto. I’m thinking of moving to the Shetlands!

It's vile, 33 today in Herts, my elderly dog is really struggling, my kids are struggling (one is autistic so extra sensitive to extreme heat), my house is 30 at the moment and I've got a banging headache, my body hurts, my IBS is playing up, I can't wait until it drops to a much more respectable 24 on Sunday.
i do like heat, just not this hot and especially not when I'm not on holiday and have to work, clean, cook etc.

Drink loads of water. You are probably dehydrated if you have a headache

DavidStopActingLikeADisgruntledPelican · 24/06/2026 21:32

I don’t begrudge anyone who’s genuinely enjoying this heat- crack on you lucky bastards. But I am not. My toddler is not and she’s cranky and not sleeping and I’m worried she’s not drinking enough despite my best efforts. My antidepressants don’t mix well with this heat and I’ve just started my period. Joys.

I’m guessing that if lived within spitting distance to the beach or had a pool in my back garden (and didn’t have to go to work or deal with a cranky toddler) I’d probably feel more positive about it all.

lljkk · 24/06/2026 21:35

I'm generally enjoying the heat. I like it as a nice change from too cold 6m of the year and unpleasantly cold 2m of the year. My only big challenge with the heat is keeping my garden plants hydrated.

I have partial aircon at work. It would be difficult to work > 30 in the office.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/06/2026 21:36

Me. Love it. In the garden sunbathing today

helped that I have a spa. It’s set to cold and unheated at moment so lovely and refreshing

Hiddenhouse · 24/06/2026 21:39

37 degrees is a bit much for me to function but I’m embracing it and trying to keep everyone hydrated

Goinggonegone · 24/06/2026 21:42

Not me.
Chronic photophobia, chronic vestibular migraine, asthma, antidepressants and autism...
And it's only been 27 here. Tomorrow is due to be 35 and Im dreading it.

TheRealMagic · 24/06/2026 21:45

I took my DC to the lido yesterday after school and as we sat there, eating ice cream and all happy and exhausted after swimming in the lovely cool water and then drying off in bright evening sun, I felt like I genuinely could not be happier.

I didn't feel exactly the same sat in the office today, but overall I'm very glad for a hot spell!

Shinyhappyapple · 24/06/2026 21:47

I think it’s the night temperatures which are the big problem, everything is easier if you can sleep. Aircon would be a game changer.

ShowOfHands · 24/06/2026 22:00

I've had major surgery in the last week and am struggling. I'm at a point where I'd like to go for a couple of short walks a day but the heat is too oppressive. The hospital stay was miserable and trying to stay hydrated post anaesthetic was already tough. I really need it to cool down a bit.

I can't even shower or bath to cool down.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 24/06/2026 22:05

I normally like the heat, but it was 34C here today, very humid and I had to work. If I hadn't had to work and had a small outdoor pool (I imagine the sea is still freezing), I would have enjoyed today much more.
