So who’s actually enjoying this heat wave?

So we all know that mumsnetters love a good argy bargy over Summer vs Winter.

Are people actually enjoying this heat? If you are, what is it about it that you like?

Yabu - it’s great I love it
Yanbu - it’s too hot

I would be enjoying it, but I have a dog and I am stressed about him in the heat. Therefore I am not enjoying it.

Gardeningsideeffects · 25/06/2026 05:04

Me, I love it!

I'm out with the dogs right now. Usually our house stays cold in a heatwave as we are in a valley by a river.

At 4.30am when I left the house, the outside thermometer said 23! We actually had to sleep with a fan on, which never happens. But I still went under the very thin duvet and slept deeply.

But yes, I love the heat. I love the soupy damp feeling from the humidity. I love how calm everything feels.

Obviously climate change isn't good. But I love a hot hot day.

HelpMeGetThrough · 25/06/2026 05:42

I’d rather it was like this than raining and cold. It was 32 here yesterday and the humidity has played hell with my Rheumatoid Arthritis and flared it up, so in quite a lot of pain. I just up the dose of painkillers and crack on.

Was having an ice cold pint on our afternoon meeting yesterday, if anyone noticed, they didn’t say anything. Was purely for medicinal purposes of course.

ForWiseRoseCat · 25/06/2026 06:00

I like it but my car doesn't have working air con at the moment (noticed back in March and just not done anything about it) so i got out of it dripping in sweat and with crazy wind swept car hair yesterday. I looked a bloody mess, the car was like a furnace.

Woke up earlier and just opened the doors and the cooler air is lovely. The cats are out in the garden enjoying it before it gets hot.

Just wish it was a bit cooler at night or shops still had ac units stocked.

Yuja · 25/06/2026 06:04

I love it. First time I’ve been comfortable all year spend most of my life tense from the cold

malificent7 · 25/06/2026 06:08

Seeing as it rained and flooded all of January and is gray and meh the majority of the time in the UK, a bit of holiday weather is fab. Only lasts a week or too.
I love summer clothes and salads and the air con at work is good.
I feel for the vulnerable though and worry about climate change.

I love the sun and outdoors life . This heat I hate though . Spend all my time hiding from it

Yes this is my issue aswell . My dogs hate it

QuintadosMalvados · 25/06/2026 06:46

Awful. Literally didn't sleep a wink last night. Day off today but still chores to do.

Nothing helped shift the heat. I'm so fed up with it. It's 25c already.

I have never known it to be so hot.

Weird thing is that I stopped sweating at some point. Thought that it was dehydration, drank water and just set me off needing to pee every five minutes.
The bed is a tangled mess of varying types of duvet.
Dh sleeps in another bedroom in this heat.

QuintadosMalvados · 25/06/2026 06:53

To top it all off my bowels are very loose been to the loo 3 times already. It's not food poisoning or a virus, it's just an upset digestive system.

In the seasons that are not hot, you can at least get warm enough to sleep, providing the bedroom is not actually freezing and money's not a problem.
Getting cool is much harder. It's relentless.
Not even 7am and already hot.

Same here. Spring's fantastic, summer not so much.

Girlintheframe · 25/06/2026 07:11

I’m in Scotland so not experiencing the crazy SW temps but it’s still very hot compared to our normal.
I’m loving it! So fab to wear summer clothes and not worry about rain/being cold. Fab to be able to sit out well into the evening and it still be warm.
Only downside is having to get up earlier to walk our dog but I can live with that.

closureatlast · 25/06/2026 07:20

We are on holiday on the Welsh coast and it's been unreal! Haven't done as much walking as usual ....we normally do 8 miles a day....but had a thoroughly relaxing time.

I'm the same. Very loose bowels all day yesterday and crippling pains today.

I do love hot weather but the intensity is really upsetting my system.

There's hot and there's too hot.
I'm not one to like cold and rain, my ideal day would be about 18c and sunny while cool at night, but I'm dreading another day of this.

Love it! 😎😎😎

Viviennemary · 25/06/2026 11:01

Hate it. Stay in and life on hold till it's over. Dreadful.

Me too

Squirrelsnut · 25/06/2026 11:07

I dislike it very much. Apart from my job (teacher), the house is a bloody mess because by the time I get home it's much too hot to do anything. I also like walking, it's my favourite way to unwind, and I just can't do it in this heat (Oxfordshire).
So I feel trapped in a messy house, sweating with an upset tum, or gently dying in a classroom.
Boo.

I love 25 ish, but 30 plus makes me ill.

springintospring26 · 25/06/2026 11:10

I think what im
enjoyimg is the escape from the usual. I’m walking the dogs early in the morning and am not getting in the car to visit my dear old Dad. Im sitting up later than usual and sleeping on the sofa as don’t have any fans or air con

ToadRage · 25/06/2026 11:24

I usually like heat, love looking outside and putting on a pair of shorts and lying in the sun but right now is too much, I haven't ventured outside since Tuesday night, it's really hard to sleep too. We have refrigerated gel pillows and hot water bottles in the freezer, cool showers, fans on all day but it's so uncomfortable.

Delatron · 25/06/2026 11:42

Kind of feels like life is on hold a bit and I don’t love that. I’m worried about my poor dog. For the first few nights he shat all over the living room floor which is not like him. I have a fan pointed at him and he has early walks but we are all knackered.

Felt like my internal organs were boiling last night. Even the one aircon unit wouldn’t get the temp down. It really is brutal in the SE. The buildings are holding on to the heat and there’s no respite. Little sleep - two cold showers in the night.

So no 35 degrees in this country is no fun. Love mid twenties though when you can actually go outside and enjoy it.

I do hate the cold weather but those that love this - is it 35 where you are and what are you doing in 35 degrees that is pleasant?

If I didn’t have my dog I’d be checking in to an air conditioned hotel.

I used to tip cold water onto my dog when she was hot. She loved it and it cooled her right down
Also she had a cooling mat.

I love it, my sister (who is one of those people who likes it when it’s cold and she can be cosy) often calls me a lizard as I cope so well with the heat. We get so few genuinely nice days in the UK, at least in my bit of it, I get really irritated by people moaning about it when they have their cold damp weather 90% of the time (those with genuine health conditions excused from my ire).

It depends so much on where you live. I’m betting you’re not in the SE
