To cancel date over his ‘joke’?

5th date tomorrow night with a man who has been great up to now. I’ve had to push the time back by an hour - said I’ll need extra time to freshen up after work. His reply to me was: “No worries, can’t be having a whiffy growler lol”.

Is that date cancelling worthy or am I being a bit too harsh?

You're supposed to compromise on what colour the curtains are or where to go on holiday, not whether or not you accept braindead misogynistic insults. If you have to argue at women about compromising just to date you because you're so unfunny, antisocial and disgusting, there's nothing worth compromising for.

Are people this fucking terrible at seduction? I think the Americans call it "having game" and it's depressing to see just how much of it some men haven't got.

😂😂
I'm fascinated by what he thinks us women will get from this.

No. We expect you to have a sense of humour. Just like the midwives. It's not sexual assault, it's not disrespectful, it's not abusive, it's just humour. Which of course is risky. Sometimes it crosses a line. That's the way risk is. How come you don't get this?

nocoolnamesleft · 04/07/2026 22:31

Humour is meant to be funny. No one has been able to explain what made that crass degrading comment funny.

It's not humorous, that's the point, mate. If you have to argue, whine, complain, guilt trip and make calls to "compromise" to get people to laugh at your joke, it means your joke isn't funny. Do you think stand up comedians start moralising at audiences, telling them to compromise and saying "at least I didn't sexually assault you!" when they do a joke that goes down the pan? Of course they don't. They realise the joke was shit and change the material.

Perhaps if we're really lucky they'll start pontificating about how "fascinating" it is that people don't laugh at shit jokes as if they're some kind of superior being observing a petri dish. Give me bloody strength. Do you realise how absolutely devoid of humour that is? How graceless and clodhopping?

Thinking people (women) are obliged to think your crap jokes are funny because you "expect" them is weapon level entitlement. Even knock knock jokes are better than this.

Like the other MRA/incel types on the thread, he thinks he is automatically superior to us, or at least more reasonable and rational and can therefore simply lecture us into it.

The irony of this being related to having a sense of humour is going to make my head explode, because on the one hand it's about as uptight and unfunny as it gets, but on the other, it actually is hilarious for absolutely none of the reasons he intends.

Hmmm!! I understand. Compromise is difficult-takes lot's of experience.

Gettingbysomehow · 04/07/2026 22:56

That would absolutely be the end for me. Cancel the date and cancel him. Yuck.

It's not hard at all with an emotionally intelligent man who's capable of treating women as equals and has any kind of handle on how seduction and humour work.

Its funny - come on! He would probably be mortified if he knew it landed this badly. He obviously doesn't mean it - he's making a joke. I have two brothers - maybe this makes a difference? Red flags are dishonesty, being unkind to children and waiting staff or stealing all your money - not this??

Really? So tell us, dibbley, how whiffey is your growler today, given the heat and all? Give us the lol.

Learning the English language and grammar shouldn't though.

Having a sense of humour does not equate to finding comments like that funny, what part of that do you not get?

You'd know all about how difficult it can be I'm sure 😂😂

It must have taken you a long, long, looooonnnnnnng time to convince someone, anyone, to 'compromise' to laugh at one of your 'jokes'.
