To cancel date over his ‘joke’?

5th date tomorrow night with a man who has been great up to now. I’ve had to push the time back by an hour - said I’ll need extra time to freshen up after work. His reply to me was: “No worries, can’t be having a whiffy growler lol”.

Is that date cancelling worthy or am I being a bit too harsh?

He sounds gross. Disgusting man.

CurlewKate · 23/06/2026 15:54

Absolutely date cancelling.

Ilovemychocolate · 23/06/2026 15:55

🤮

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 23/06/2026 15:55

If it was someone I knew quite well I would find it funny, but not someone I've only seen five times.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 23/06/2026 15:55

Do you mention your dog in the message? Could that be what he is talking about?

Mydahliasareshit · 23/06/2026 15:56

These crude and infantile types never learn, unfortunately.

Striveforcompetence · 23/06/2026 15:57

Nope, there is a line for jokes and that’s way way over it. And not funny - just crass and misogynistic. Women really need to put their collective foot down over things like this so these men remain single until they learn and change and grow up.

Oohanothername · 23/06/2026 15:57

Poorly judged joke. That's all. I laughed tbh 🤣 . If he's great in all other ways then don't dump him over this!

Kingfisherfly · 23/06/2026 15:58

Urgh. Hasn't he given any clues though?. I csm't imagine a man who's usually completely respectful in person writing that.

Asterales · 23/06/2026 15:59

Urgh. I'd have to cancel, because I just couldn't enjoy the evening (today or any other time) with him after that.

BillieWiper · 23/06/2026 15:59

That is rank. I mean if you'd been having really dirty scatalogical 'banter' up until then and you'd been talking about him not having a smeggy cock then I guess?!

But otherwise yeah I'd say sayonara to that one.

Cloudconfusion · 23/06/2026 15:59

Usually I’ve a sense of humour but that’s not funny from a new date. I think it would give me hesitation, I’d still see him, but one more like that and I’d be out.

Peterdottir · 23/06/2026 16:00

Cancel!

MyArtfulGreySloth · 23/06/2026 16:00

Yuck

Pippa12 · 23/06/2026 16:00

It did make me laugh tbh but I’d be abit shocked if I was sent that early on in a relationship.

Depends how much you like him tho, maybe it’s just a case of telling him you don’t find that language acceptable.

geumsun · 23/06/2026 16:01

At least he revealed why he's single early. Next!

outerspacepotato · 23/06/2026 16:01

Ick.

If what he said is what I think he said, he can fuck right off.

This

GisGasGus · 23/06/2026 16:03

Have you slept together yet? Definitely ick if not and still ick if you have really

Alittlefrustrated · 23/06/2026 16:04

No point telling him his joke/language isn't funny, because he thinks it is 🤷
You can't change that. I'd move on.

OhBotherSaidPoo · 23/06/2026 16:09

Well in that case he better wash his face

ClimbEveryLadder · 23/06/2026 16:14

You can cancel a date for any reason you like.

That’s grim, tells you he’s misogynistic and crude. Throw him back and try again

Sparrowsandbudgies · 23/06/2026 16:15

No. Immediately no. Ick.

rwalker · 23/06/2026 16:16

with things like this you need to know your audience
5 dates I’d say no
