To cancel date over his ‘joke’?

5th date tomorrow night with a man who has been great up to now. I’ve had to push the time back by an hour - said I’ll need extra time to freshen up after work. His reply to me was: “No worries, can’t be having a whiffy growler lol”.

Is that date cancelling worthy or am I being a bit too harsh?

Urgh amazed anyone thinks that is funny

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/06/2026 16:18

Vom. I would never be able to countenance sex with such a person.

Magicpaintbrush · 23/06/2026 16:18

There's no way I would see him again after that revolting comment. How fucking juvenile and disgusting.

Wishimaywishimight · 23/06/2026 16:19

Oh come on, you can't for a second think this is ok? It's a vile, crude comment and shows the type of man he is.

I would reply "That may be your idea of witty repartee, it's not mine. I won't be seeing you again."

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 23/06/2026 15:55

If it was someone I knew quite well I would find it funny, but not someone I've only seen five times.

I wouldn’t even find that funny from DH and I’ve known him years.

BruceAndNosh · 23/06/2026 16:20

Has he met your growler yet?

ohyesido · 23/06/2026 16:20

That’s so crass. You are right to cancel

PetulaGordeno · 23/06/2026 16:20

Honestly I think it’s vile.
You don’t know him that well yet and instead of being a gentleman he’s gone straight to grim.

Harrumphhhh · 23/06/2026 16:22

Ugh. No. Cancel.

Have you come across the Burned Haystack method? There’s a Facebook group. It’ll help you feel better about blocking men early in relationships. They don’t improve.

CurlewKate · 23/06/2026 16:23

The people who are saying it’s a joke-can you explain why it’s funny?

InterIgnis · 23/06/2026 16:23

Cancel.

That’s repulsive regardless of how long I’ve known someone.

TheMaidofOrleans · 23/06/2026 16:25

Yes I would cancel but tell him why.
Life is too short for this revolving language

ClearFruit · 23/06/2026 16:25

Huge ick. Do NOT go on the date, or on any other dates with him.

ChasingRainbow5 · 23/06/2026 16:25

Also if he thinks that's appropriate now, imagine what he'd come out with in a few months' time...

momtoboys · 23/06/2026 16:27

NEXT!

MeMeMeMeOw · 23/06/2026 16:27

Don't meet him any more. He sounds about 12.

momtoboys · 23/06/2026 16:28

Oohanothername · 23/06/2026 15:57

Poorly judged joke. That's all. I laughed tbh 🤣 . If he's great in all other ways then don't dump him over this!

Really? I am surprised anyone would think that was funny. Especially from someone you barely know. To each their own.

Motomum23 · 23/06/2026 16:29

🤮🤮 oh god that would put me right off!

krustykittens · 23/06/2026 16:30

Grim. Way too soon for this type of 'joke'.

patooties · 23/06/2026 16:30

Ew

drunkelephant83 · 23/06/2026 16:32

I did laugh but you can always reply and say ‘err that was gross’

ohhhhnnnoooo · 23/06/2026 16:32

Alittlefrustrated · 23/06/2026 16:04

No point telling him his joke/language isn't funny, because he thinks it is 🤷
You can't change that. I'd move on.

Dump? Yes!
He also needs to know that it’s unacceptable.

Itiswhysofew · 23/06/2026 16:32

No, that's not good. Imagine what else he'll be saying before long.

What do you like about him? Just curious.

Changingplace · 23/06/2026 16:32

Grim, the ‘male loneliness epidemic’ rears its revolting head again, yeah cancel.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 23/06/2026 16:32

I'd cancel and tell him why. Eww!
